Despite passing on Malik Neighbors with the 5th overall pick, the Los Angeles Chargers made strategic moves in the NFL Draft to bolster their roster. Jim Harbaugh surprised everyone by selecting Joe Alt in the first round, emphasizing the importance of offensive linemen as weapons. The Chargers then traded up in the second round to draft Lad McConkey and added depth to their wide receiver corps with Brenden Rice, son of NFL legend Jerry Rice. Is this the right path for the Chargers? - Спорт
Joe Alt has unlimited potential.. I don’t think their decision will age poorly
And I’m a Giants fan… so thank you LA
Fr dude is a generational tackle talent having him and Slater is gonna be a deadly pair
If the Patriots didn't desperately need a QB, I would have loved for them to pick Joe Alt. Gotta protect your signal caller.
Alt actually overrated.
@@crozb32 They're all overrated until they can prove otherwise.
Jim Harbaugh understands that championship teams are built inside out.
Does he? It took him 8 years to win one in Michigan, and he never won a SB in the NFL. He made it to one his rookie season as the head coach of the 49ers, but he had nothing to do with building that team. In fact, the longer he was there the worse the 9ers were since they never went back to a SB, so I think you’re placing way too much on one college championship, which is amazing, but it’s not like he went to the University of Montana and did it, Michigan is a big time program that Tom Brady came from, so there’s a lot of outside influence with that program that has nothing to do with him. If he wins with the chargers, it’ll be a huge accomplishment because the Chokers, I mean Chargers are one of those jinxed teams, so time will tell.
@@discoverarcheryI love how through that whole yapping section you just did, it took me only one sentence to know you don’t know ball
But you don’t explain yourself with facts like I did, so I can say using my last statement that you’re a moe-ron, and most likely a loser charger fan, lol, don’t forget to choke again this year without Allen, Williams, or Ekler, and by the time you rebuild, Herbert will be 30+, lol
@@ars_innFr
He is also really good at cheating
Joe alt will save Herbert’s career, bro was getting lit up way to often from his blind side
So Herbert will remain upright longer, and throw the ball to who?
@@daniel-ym9un quit acting like Keenan and Mike are the only recievers we had.
@@daniel-ym9un mckonkey and rice I guess
@@brandonm151 yeah man, Josh Palmer and QJ are elite targets.
@@daniel-ym9un It is not an opinion, but a fact that when Justin herbert has time in the pocket, he can make the throws that win games no matter who he was or will be throwing too. Also, Ladd Mcconkey.
It's funny how Joe Alt is seen as a surprise pick when most mocks had them taking him
yea i didn’t think anyone was shocked
Because it’s all the idiots who dont know anything about how jim harbaugh builds a team and said “we want a flashy receiver at 5”
He was never a surprise pick me and my friends were talking about mock drafts and almost all of us agreed he would most likely go to the chargers he’s the best tackle in the class and could be a multiple time all pro taking him at 5 to protect Herbert and help the run game is not surprising I’d be more surprised if they didn’t take him or another tackle
Wrong. Sure most mocks had Alt going at 5 but they also had the Chargers trading down 😂
the only thing that would be 'surprising' is if he picked a wr instead of Alt. capt comback is a trenches guy. with the current market on wr's it might have been smart to do that tho
Are we not gonna talk about Ladd McConkey???
literally 😊
There were WR weapons up and down the second round as well, so taking a legit to franchise level tackle with your first pick makes a lot of sense. It would be much more difficult to get Neighbors opportunities with your qb running for his life or on his back more often with a lessor O line.
I’m excited to see Rice play in LA, hopefully he’s able to make an impact as a WR3/WR4 and hopefully move up to WR2 or even WR1 in the next three seasons or so. Would still love to somehow get Tee Higgins or someone along those lines but the current WR room is solid and has been boosted by a good draft.
Anyone who was paying attention knew an offensive line was going to LA. It was never really a question. It was Alt or Latham. Glad they went with Alt
If you’re so intrigued by the reason why Jim puts linemen 1st before WRs….please watch the 2024 Rose Bowl game, where Michigan absolutely established fear of god on Alabama. 😅
o line is important but no nfl level defense is having that happen to them, unless all starters are injured
@@will-zj5gq Alabama is practically an NFL caliber team. I don’t know what you watch in the NFL, but if Bama was in the NFL; they could easily take down all the weak teams in the NFL.
@@Red-ss5lv alabama has 10 to 15 nfl caliber players while an nfl team has 55 nfl caliber player. they are not the same at all.
As a Notre Dame fan, I’ve had the luxury of watching future NFL star one after the other at ND over the years. Although Zack Martin was the most polished, Alt is the most talented with the highest upside that I’ve ever seen play at ND. Chargers have their LT set in stone for the next decade. This pick will age like a fine wine. Just look at his measurables if you doubt the pick, he’s a mountain of a man that moves incredibly well.
In Jim’s defense, everyone had LAC drafting Alt or Nabers. It wasn’t a surprise, it was 50/50
It should have been the least surprising pick ever. Of course Harbaugh was going to draft a tackle at pick 5.
i had joe going their in my mocks and it makes sense this draft class is so deep in every position but the wide receiver depth is insane they coulda still had a decent-great receiver in the second round and maybe the third
They also got Ladd McConky in the early 2nd. WR room should be solid
Since Herbert came into the league he's been the #2 most pressured QB in the league. You can't throw to any WRs if you ain't got no protection. Having Slater and Alt at opposite sides will help tremendously! All the casuals that were upset with the pick don't know football.
Until the Ladd McConky pick the Chargers wide receiver #1 was gonna be Quinton Johnston 💀
Naa josh palmer underated asf
Josh Palmer is a solid WR and number 1
They should look at Tyler Boyd
Quinton Dropston🔥
@@SKYSOLDIER173rd Palmer is an amazing 3 and a good 2. He's not WR 1 level tho
Lineman are weapons that’s why most qbs like burrow get cut down like he did no protection
The Chargers had a great draft! They got Ladd Mconkey and Brenden Rice. That's some weapons right there.
Never question jim harboughts decision on anything the guy knows what hes doing and it always absolutely works
Did this man just say “arguably” the best WR of all time? There is no argument there. You can argue about him or Brady being the Football overall GOAT, that’s a fair conversation but no one can touch Rice at the WR position
This dude obviously doesn’t pay in straight cash homie
Rice is the GOAT over Brady
@@jonathandaniel5680nice option but there are people who thing Brady is number 1 including myslef
@vpattt1619 I know I'm in the minority but I refuse to say that someone is the GOAT based off their team's success. Especially when the 1st three titles he was a game manager. And those wins vs Atlanta and Seatlle were highly questionable.
@@jonathandaniel5680While I agree the Seahawks win was very questionable (They should of just ran the damn ball) the Falcons was well deserved as he managed to come back from a 25 point deficit
People forget how good the Seahawks line was with marshawn. That line did a good job and lynch was the huge cherry ontop.
Jerry Rice's son was selected 225th 😂 😭 💀💀💀💀
Yeahhh bet Jerry is not too happy about his sons decision but I’m stoked about him but LETS GO BOLTS CHARGERS FOR LIFE. RIP #55 lost but never forgotten ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️💯
We view offensive lineman as weapons I lovee that !
Surprised everyone? I’m a casual draft fan and I wasn’t at all surprised over the pick of Joe Alt. Nearly every mock I saw had them taking Alt. Sheesh.
Harbaugh had help build one of the best O-lines in football when he was coaching the niners
"Surprised everyone" is a bit of an overstatement tbh, he did an interview just a week before the draft saying that OL is the most important position group on offense. I would've been shocked if he picked Nabers instead of Alt, a lot of analysts mocked Alt at 5 too
The Chargers had a great draft & I am so goad they didn’t take Nabers so my Giants could pick him at 6. They just happened to draft Joe Alt who has strong blood lines as his Dad played in the NFL. He is about as a safe a pick & sure fire bet prospects as you can get as the draft is always risky. All these guys are good, but what usually sets them apart from those who fail or what separates the great from the good is who will put in the work & grind. You can’t get by just on talent like players did during high school & college.
I think the Rams had a phenomenal draft too. Jim Harbaugh wanted to put his stamp on this team & he did just that with this draft.
This reminds me of when Dan Campbell was on his first year with the lions and they took Penei Sewell after everyone thought he was going to the Bengals. Nonetheless just saying when you want to build a team there’s a common factor on where they usually start at
It’s like some remember the incomplete pass at 3 Rivers Stadium vs K. Greene/G. Lloyd & Co and assume Coach Jim is pass happy. 49ers had OL, UM too.
I think it was a good pick because that draft was loaded with wideouts but there weren't many second-round o-line options
Nobody expected that, Jim Harbaugh always builds the trenches first.
Mike you have a really good team of editors but why do your shorts always cut off mid sentence, oh yeah so we will watch twice! Genius
If you know football, you can’t say you were “surprised by this”. It’s Greg Roman’s offense, run, run and more runs.
Btw. Love you how you convenienlty didn’t bother to Ladd McConkey…the guy they picked before Brendan Rice..both very underrated picks too.
Nobody ever talks about Ladd McKonckey
thats because ladd is a beta. quienton johnston is way better and a sigma🤣🤣 he can hawk tua all over ladd. you are just a beta and i am an alpha so i can mogg all over you and have way better rizz🤣🤣
Rice is makin this team & will turn out to be massive 👍⚡⚡
How could you not take Jerry rice's son, if he's even half as good as his dad you'll be happy, and if you're a good coach you know you can bring the best potential out of any player.....
Oh the boy can play look at some of his highlights and combine. The boy can ball and got speed and the hands to catch Herbert's ball. Everyone in the draft we're solid picks.
Bolt Up🩵⚡️💨
@@THESM0K3G0D i can’t get excited because we still share the division with the chiefs. the chargers could have jerry rice himself we will still find a way to lose to the chiefs. mahomes and andy reid just beats everything
Did not suprise people at all. Although was very commonly projected to the Chargers with Harbaugh most likely having a run heavy focus
With what the falcons did, nobody really blames the chargers. At least they took somebody that can be of use.
Jerry is numbero uno across the board. Never forget that
Malik neighbors😭
Palmer and Johnson, McConkey and Rice Jr. Now
Why everyone talking about rice, ladd defintiley a better pick that they made
If Alt plays like the next Joe Thomas everyone will love this pick in hindsight. They have a great OT duo. This dude will help you average an extra 0.5-1.0 YPC potentially. Doesn't sound like much but that could take you from 3.9 YPC to 4.7 YPC. That will win you a lot of games. Gotta build up with the new regime
If you're surprised he took a lineman instead of a receiver you clearly don't know the offense he runs. Plus, ladd will probably end up being the beat wr in the this class. His route running is much better than the other receivers.
Herbert’s gonna have enough time to bake cakes back there if the middle of the o-line holds up. Smart pick.
It’s smart because they know they aren’t going to be a competitor this year even if they did get Nabers, they are in pretty much in a full rebuild they just have their franchise qb already
Not a surprise at all! Anyone who knows football knows harbaugh was taking OL
“Offensive lineman we look at as weapons” preach Jim preach. Bunch of arm chair legends out here thinking Nabors was the guy.
The fact you said Jerry Rice is ARGUABLY the greatest wide receiver of all time is insane. A receiver would need to average 78 receptions, 1145 yards, and 10 tds a year for TWENTY seasons to break his records
Man I miss him massively he knows how to win
my guy peaks done seen the grim reaper a good 4 times this vid 😂
I think they made a way better option because every year theres elite wide receiver talent but tackles are hard to find. They also drafted ladd mckonkey so it doesnt really matter
Chargers/Wolverine/49er/Stanford he has has same formula...inside--out..
Detroit's resurgence began with a super talented Offensive Lineman pick as well, instead of another WR or DE.
They still have Joshua Palmer their decent they just kinda need a decent tight end now
If you build the trenches it helps the backend on D and the WRs on O
Decent WRs can get open if the O-Line is blocking for 5+ seconds and Average RBs can get nice yards with all that Beef blocking
DBs just need to lock up for a few seconds and let the D-Line attack
On the other side of the D-Line gets no Pressure even a HOF secondary is gonna get beat having to cover some Lamar/Kyler scramble like play
And on Offense Moss/Rice don’t matter who out wide if your QB getting Speared every play
Joe Alt has been mocked to the Chargers for months bro lol. Wasn't a surprise to anyone. Before Harbaugh even took the job, but even more so after he became HC. Great pick by them. Receiver pool was deep, and they got a great one in Ladd McConkey in the 2nd round, and I think they were happy as hell he was still on the board once they got to their 2nd round pick.
Y’all are forgetting that the chargers o line was like Swiss cheese, and Justin Herbert was getting absolutely smoked by d tackles and edge rushers, so picking up Joe alt was a great decision
Honestly, the Chargers did really well during the draft. Gonna be nice to see what they do this year.
Anyone who thought Harbaugh was gonna take a wideout over an OL in the first round doesn’t know much about him
Jim scouted all the top guys. I’m not a chargers fan but he could possibly hit big with the next couple of drafts
i was stunned they didnt get nabers but mcconkey and rice are good substitutes and alt will protect hebert after he had that finger surgery.
Great draft for chargers. Big o-line and Ladd and Brenden
That wasn’t a surprise pick for anyone who had half a brain knew the Chargers new staff or saw any mock drafts I could’ve told you that the Chargers if they stayed at 5 would probably take Joe Alt
No one was shocked they took Joe Alt lol.
didn’t even mention snagging lad mcconkeyin 2nd round who i see as first round talent guys gonna be beast
McConkey in the 2nd was a great pick after protecting Herbert
There’s no arguably abt Jerry rice being the greatest wr of all time 😭😭
WR was not a top need for LA, they just picked a WR last year with a first round pick. Also, don't sleep on palmer. Keeping herbert safe is the top need.
I actually had the Chargers going Alt and the Giants going McCarthy.
Welcome to what good coach brings you. Smarter decisions
Wow, Caleb's 2nd biggest target last year is partially replacing his new target in San Diego! Full circle and it's messed up!
Don’t forget Ladd McConkey
Alt was definitely the right choice. And why are we talking about Rice? They took Ladd McConkey early in the second. An excellent decision in my book.
Joe alt was the best pick they could've possibly made to improve their team. Chargers offensive line is like the least intimidating line in the NFL historically. They've gotta change that image.
Harbaugh surprised nobody with any knowledge of him and his philosophies in football. EVERYONE was projecting o-line pick for the chargers and that’s what they went with.
I’m a fan of him he’s a great coach & he did the right thing by selecting a o linemen bc your QB got to have protection & they got what Slater few drafts back. Protect your QB & you can win & go far 👍🏻 plus they got Little Rice in the second round. I’m a cowboys fan but give this man 2 to 3 seasons & this team will be a top team in the AFC along with Jags bc I think each year Petersons will build a team around his talented QB & hopefully Cincinnati can do the same around Joe.. I’m ready to see new teams in the AFC make it to the SB lol Pats & KC been to many SB between the 2 😂 & even Steelers over the last 50 years 😂
Joe Alt was not that surprising of a pick. LAC needed to upgrade their Oline, and if you look at Jim's track record, he loves having a top tier offensive line
Considering they want to be a run heavy team. The best Oline was the best fit. 🤷♂️
It's the reverse Bengals when they took JaMarr Chase over a OL
Championships are built from the inside, out. Skills come later. Hogmallies are needed first.
The couch is right if you don't have a offense of line you have no weapon
Jerry is the best football player ever.
Penie Sewall was the genisis of the Lions rise
Yup
How you gonna mention the 7th round pick but not their 2nd round pick
People criticized the Bears last year for taking Darnell Wright over stud prospects like Jalen Carter or Jaxon smith. Wright has turned out to be a stud for them and has helped the Bears O-line tremendously.
Who will Question Harbaugh? He’s going to make sure Herbert is protected.!!
Don't think ppl understand just how important Oline is.... You can get someone like Singletary or Zack Moss for next to nothing if u got a good Oline they will get the job done but as the NYG have shown even if u have a top3 rb they can't carry a bad Oline
At the end of of the day we drafted good players 3 of them are good receivers.Bolts up !⚡️⚡️⚡️
Can’t throw to anyone if u constantly running for your life or looking up at the sky
"Surprised everyone", if you know Harbaugh at all, you should not have been surprised by the Alt pick
Huge draft for the Chargers
We good over here bolt up baby ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
What if Joe alt gets catches too
Jim harbaugh is our savior. Bolt up ⚡️
He didn’t shock anyone with his pick lol.
Jerry rice the original goat
Who was surprised??? Every mock I seen had Alt going to LA.
everybody forgets josh palmer exists
Joe Alt pick was no surprise 😑
I’m not a chargers fan. But trust and believe his method of a successful football team. He thinks old school which is the way to be. You can have my Mahomes as qb, McCaffery as rb, Kelcie as TE chase, Jefferson and Adam’s. With the offensive line having all five starting. None of those weapons are going to be able to be used. Js
