  • Hello everyone! I am so excited to finally share a new garden tour with all of you. It was a labor of love getting this done, from the prep work in the garden (hello weeding and mulching!) and all the technicalities of filming and editing. I hope you all enjoy it! Please let me know if you have any questions in the comments below. Part 2 will be coming out in the next week or so, so be sure to check back or ring the bell and subscribe to be notified of all my future videos. x

    Never heard of yarrow being “…a little bit thuggish.” 🤷🏽‍♀️ I’ve never grown yarrow and recently purchased some seeds on Etsy. Can’t wait to see their personality. 😜🤩🤓😇😠🤭🥴😈

    This year I had to cut back hard my David Austin roses. Haven't done that for years. At least they all survived here in my zone 5b garden. Thank you for your lovely tour of your beautiful garden.

      Yes, it can feel like we are behind some years in the bloom department if the weather hasn’t been on our side. Certainly the case for me right now, but the garden will catch up!

    There are faux stone covers you can purchase to cover your septic. I plan to get them for mine, they will look believable here in my area because most yards have exposed bedrock and large boulders scattered around.

    I adore your garden and love a good garden tour, thanks for sharing! Might I suggest that it may be easier to do more frequent but shorter tours that focus primarily on what's in bloom at the moment? I think it would suit your cottage garden better since you have a continual succession of different plants in bloom throughout the season, and your garden space has grown quite a bit since last year. It looks like you have had a very late spring so I am looking forward to seeing lots of beautiful blooms pop in June!

    • @HoneyHill

If you plant calendula beside your roses-strawberries- the aphids will only go on to the calendula- learned that from Garden Answer. Thanks again!

    Your garden is an absolute DREAM!!! Omg and that Doen dress, loveeeee. Would love to know more about your roses (I cannot find butterscotch anywhere, ugh) and your KA Santa Cruz dahlias (lucky!). I'm up in Seattle and my mom, sis and I are dreaming of road tripping over to Spokane just to visit the Rosarium and pick up all those hard to find David Austin varieties that are long out of stock over here. Also, what kind of mulch did you use here? I'm only finding the larger bark kinds at HD and lowes. Love your videos, keep them coming!

    • @HoneyHill
      @HoneyHill  2 года назад

      Hi Jill, thank you so much! The Rosarium is a special place and they are run by the sweetest people. Carol, Sabrina, and Kathy are the best! Definitely worth a trip if you are in the area. Lots of rose content coming in the next few weeks.
      Re the mulch, I ordered it in bulk from a local supplier. It is aged dark fines, so be sure to call around and ask for that. I’m not a fan of the chunky bark, either.

    In my experience, mock orange does take a long time to bloom and becomes more of a tree when it does so. There is a famous mock orange tree in downtown Jonesborough, Tennessee where I am from originally, and it bloomed and "fruited" only 1 time in the 8 years I lived there. I saw you have a Columbine or two in your flower garden and I can tell you, those are like the yarrow, they will just seed themselves and take over. I have a unique lemony yellow Columbine that is just glowingly beautiful. Then I have the traditional purple varieties. Your garden is lovely...I was telling my partner, "And you think I love plants," when I showed him your video.

    • @HoneyHill
      @HoneyHill  2 года назад

      Ah, yes! Good to know about the mock orange. I think the next one I purchase will have to be in bloom so I know I won’t have to wait too long. I love columbine as well, I have a few and am just starting to see a couple little seedlings spreading around.
      That last bit of your comment made me laugh! 🤣 I am such a plant lady/flower hunter.

      Thank you so much, Pam! I have’t dealt with rose saw fly yet. I’m not sure if it’s a big issue where I live. Although I’ve just discovered slugs for the first time in my garden, so it’s not impossible. Our biggest pest issues are with thrips, aphids, and earwigs.

I have been looking all over the place (for years now) for something similar and have yet to find something that I have imagined in my mind. Do you remember where you purchased yours? Or maybe the name of the company/brand? Thank you ever so much.

      It can be a bit scary. I try to find David Austin roses locally first, but if there are varieties I can’t find, I will shop online. Maybe I should film a video all about this and my favorite retailers.

      Just going to add my two-cents worth here. I have to buy all my roses online because I’m living out in the country(I’d literally have to drive 3 hours if I wanted to go buy in-store). So far I’ve bought from David Austin, Northland Rosarium, and from High Country Roses. Next year I want to try Rogue Valley Roses, Raft Island Roses and Antique Rose Emporium. This is my review so far.
      David Austin- I adore DA! I will never stop buying DA roses. They are a small business and maybe slightly understaffed in the busy/shipping season but that’s okay, in my opinion, because their guarantee is good for 5 years. Now if it was only for a couple months I could see why people would complain but hey as soon as they are done shipping they will no doubt have all the time to chat with you 🤷🏽‍♀️ So far I’m very happy with how my Olivia Rose, Emily Brontë and Roald Dahl are doing! I got bare root not the potted.
      Northland Rosarium- these are “band roses” AKA a slightly larger version of the 5” pots. Now I tell you these roses are HEALTHY! They were all around a foot tall and the foliage looked good. They do a very good job marketing, I did not have any questions so I can’t speak to their customer service. Just wish they had a bigger selection of roses 🤩
      High Country Roses- these are the 5” pots. These roses are all doing love as of now… one just pulled thro a bit of a rough patch. Matt has a good selection of roses and is very responsive to the company email. My 5 roses arrived in excellent health and I was super excited for the climbers I bought… Golden Opportunity, Perfume Factory, and Florentina. My climate did NOT suit Florentina, she began to shrivel and brown. I messaged Matt and promptly received a reply and instructions to email him “personally, a different email than the company one”. Well he never got back to me. 🤷🏽‍♀️ So I babied that rose and she’s survived so alls well that ends well. All that to say don’t email him personally… keep to the company 😂 He does good work tho. Who knows maybe my email went to Junk.

    Your garden is such an inspiration for me! I’m starting my first cottage style garden this year as we finally bought our own land. Question though, my house faces south and gets full, hot sun all day and I’m worried it might be too hot for this style garden. How do you deal with hot temps and drought?

    • @HoneyHill
      @HoneyHill  2 года назад

      Thank you so much! Congratulations on your new property! Many cottage plants love full sun, but the intensity of that sun and your growing zone does make a big difference. I am in 6b albeit this year has been more like zone 5b.
      Irrigation and setting up a drip system is going to be vital to ensure all plants are watered well. I would suggest researching the cottage plants you love, and see if they will match your growing conditions. Right plant, right place, always! Well placed trees will also be a great investment for you and will provide shade and cooling to the front of your garden. Happy gardening!

    • @BRBkitch
      @BRBkitch 2 года назад

      @@HoneyHill thank you so much for getting back to me! I’m zone 3 so very cold winters and very hot summers. Drip irrigation is going to be vital. I will look into some ornamental trees for shade, great idea!

    Beautifull! How do i get my flowers to selfseed?

    • @HoneyHill
      @HoneyHill  2 года назад +1

      Thank you, Carol! It first depends on the variety of flower and your growing conditions, if they are favorable for self seeding. In general, I let my annuals and biennials, like foxgloves and sweet rocket, go to seed and I won’t cut them back until I’ve let the seed fall on the ground. In the early spring the following year I keep a sharp eye on any tiny seedlings coming up that I can identify, and I won’t weed them out of the borders. I’ll go over all this in more detail in a future video. I hope this helps!
