  • Hello gardening friends and welcome back to Honey Hill! Today I am working in the back terrace garden, adding lovely perennials to the blue, white, and pale yellow border, and utilizing the no dig method to combat all the stubborn native weeds that surround our garden. I hope you enjoy today's video and happy gardening!

    If I lived near you I would volunteer a day to help you with the mulch because I know you are recovering from a spinal/neck injury and it broke my heart thinking of you hauling that compost up and down the hills 😥. It also made my heart swell because I know that the work is a labor of love for the gardener. Be well my gardening friend!

      You are so kind, thank you!! I'm trying to listen to my body and stop when it tells me to, and that does make me move slower than I am used to. Thankfully, my husband and teenage son have come out to help make some more progress back there, which I can't wait to share on Monday!

    You need. Gorilla cart. I have neck and shoulder issues. Using a wheel barrow was difficult to use. Especially with my uneven terrain. The dump feature on the cart is a big body saver. One of the best garden “tools” I’ve ever bought.

    • @HoneyHill
      @HoneyHill  Год назад +1

      I have a gorilla cart and love it as well! However, the path I had to take down a steep and narrow slope made getting to and among the tighter planting too difficult, so I had to switch to a wheelbarrow to cut through.

    If u want to keep grass from encroaching on ur flower beds, move all ur border stones, lay a layer of quick crete, place stones on top of the quick crete, and mist with water. There r several videos on how to do it on RUclips. We made a new quarter moon flower bed around our mailbox this spring, and we did these steps. It worked on keeping the grass out for us, and we have Bermuda grass.

    Thank you for sharing your plans and vision for your garden. I used to use invisible fence in PA and it worked. I also made my own version to cut the cost down the fence is probable the best thing to protect your garden. It looks beautiful already please take your time so you don't hurt yourself. I know you had neck issue. Have a beautiful weekend.

      Thank you so much for your kindness, I will do my best to protect my neck and back as I continue to recover. So thankful I feel good enough to work in the garden. Great idea to make it yourself, even in bulk the liquid fence is quite expensive! You have a wonderful weekend as well!

    We desperately want a subcompact tractor/mower as well but they are SO expensive 😭 Even used ones are really spendy! But it would be such a back saver...hope you can get one for your property, as you've got some tough hills to deal with a wheelbarrow

    I'm a fan of Monty Don and Gardener's World, too. I've learned so much from British gardeners about design and cottage gardens. It takes quite a bit of planning to make the borders look natural and free flowing. Very smart of you to choose self-sowing plants and groundcovers. A few years back, I planted a Forget-Me-Not hedge bordering my garden walkway. So pretty! I'm gonna try my hand at it again this year. Love your channel!

    💛 Dear Samantha, I discovered your channel a few weeks ago and I’ve been binge watching your previous videos lol. You have such a beautiful and creative vision and have inspired me with ideas as a novice gardener. Today I was at our local nursery and bought flowers to start creating a cottage garden. Thank you gardening friend, I’m learning so much…love from Florida! ✌🏽

    I love Gardner’s world and it definitely inspires me to keep gardening. Loving your blue, white and yellow border. We live on 5 acres and I’ve only put in beds around our home and the rest we’ve turned back into a native meadow as it’s just too much to maintain. If you don’t mind sharing which nursery did you find the David Austin rose? Here’s hoping we don’t experience another summer like the last 110 is just not what I’m used to in Spokane:( Then the early long winter 😢I purchased some forget me not seed packets thinking they’d be plenty but each packet had about 1/2 a teaspoon…here’s hoping. Will look at purchasing through a local seed store and sprinkle them out and around our fields. Definitely agree the right tools are a life saver. TYFS, Happy Gardening everyone!

      I wish you luck with your forget-me-not seeds! I know Eden Brothers sells them in bulk, I purchased quite a large bag from them in the past. I bought the DA rose Vanessa Bell from the Rosarium Garden Center, tell them I sent you if you go!

    We’re in Central Georgia. I had a little over 2 acres fenced in with 6 foot no climb fence and an automatic gate at the driveway. Was about 17K, but it’s the best thing I ever did. Totally worth forking over that chunk. Even though it made my soul cry at the time.
    Your garden is really awesome.

    Your garden is lovely. Have you thought of planting Honorine Jobert Anemone, Candytuft and Montrose White Calamint? They are very low maintenance and spread fairly quickly.

    • @HoneyHill
      @HoneyHill  Год назад

      Thank you, Danine! I have Honorine Jobert Anemones planted throughout this border, but the deer always seem to eat them before I see many flowers. Hoping this year the plants will be mature enough to withstand some browsing. I don't have either of the other two, but I do have many beautiful calamint varieties in my garden, my favorite being Souvenir de Andre.

      They are quite expensive here too, just eye watering really! I did get them as a birthday present last year so a very special treat indeed! The glory of peonies of course is that they will live for decades and require so little fuss, and the deer don't touch them!

    It's looking lovely. Sorry about your trees, if any aren't damaged, maybe a lumber mill would be interested in those, the one near me pays the home owner for each tree.

      Thank you, Wende! I remember that being the case for my parents when they thinned their densely forested 10 acres of pine trees many years ago. The forester who our HOA hired is coordinating the logging company, so hopefully we can all save some money. Its going to be a massive job!

    I've heard that human hair deters deer and bunnies. So if you have a barber/hairstylist friend (and don't mind other people's hair) see if you can get a bag of hair clippings to spread around the perimeter of your beds. Or if you cut your families hair, use that!

    A lot of tree companies make most of their $ from taking down trees so hopefully they’re trying to salvage your beauties 🌲
