I've been close to homelessness in my life - sleeping on couches, relying on friends - and struggled to succeed after moving hundreds of miles from home, even with a college degree and extensive experience my field. I re-watched The Pursuit of Happyness during that struggle, and it was this rush of "it's okay, it'll be okay, just keep pushing". His story is absolutely inspirational, and a comfort to know that struggle like that doesn't negate your value as a person.
I was homeless for 4 years. Just got my first apartment this month! After my wife left me and took everything I got lol thank God my 5 kids will always be my kids
I read the book before the movie. He’s from my hometown Milwaukee. He was sexually assaulted by a family member young. Great story of overcoming obstacles
I don't usually care about the happy and feel good biographies, but this one was really well written. Thank you for sharing this information with us this way.
My Mom faced racism when she decided to enroll in the nursing program at San Diego State College (now University) in the early 1970's. Once she was admitted, she faced racism from professors who failed her because of her race. Fast forward six years later, and Mom helped bring public health to our side of town, Southeast San Diego. She worked along side of the leading Black phyiscians in San Diego. More years later Mom taught nusrsing classes in various facilities in San Diego county. She also was a nurse for Head Start Childcare. Mom did all of this while raising four children on her own, with very little financial help from our fathers ( there were two of them). My Mom is my hero!
I like this kind of video. It's not a person who changed history or is known for great events. It's just a regular person with an inspiring story. Much more relatable, even for somebody like me in a totally different demographic
Man, that's a feelgood story if there ever was one. I loved The Pursuit of Happiness but never knew about the man who it was based on. Thank you for doing this video👍
So love your channel. The way you present people's stories is so interesting. Chris Gardner is an inspiration. Not because he became a multimillionaire, but because of his sheer will to thrive. The kindness shown him throughout his trials is a testimony to what we are capable of as human beings.
My life has gone into utter disarray of late, so this bio meant a special lot to me. I got fixed on Simon’s closing words and pondered in silence for a while after the video ended. Felt really good. Life really happens, to all. What matters is not what happened, but whether if you are able to pick yourself up and move on. I do hope I’ll succeed in doing so.
Hey simon, if your ever looking for Irish historical figures then here's a few suggestions- Brian Boru-the first and last emperor of Ireland. Michael Collins-revolutionary, played by Liam Neeson in a film of the same name. Robert Emmet-revolutionary. James Joyce-author of Ulysses and Dubliners. C.S. Lewis- author of the Narnia series. Constance Markievicz-revolutionary, suffragette and the first female MP of the House of Commons. Grainne or Grace O'Malley- pirate queen who confronted Elizabeth I. Padraig or Patrick Pearse-revolutionary, educator and the head of the 1916 easter rising. Ernest Shackleton-explorer who didn't lose a single member of his expeditionary crew after a failed attempt into Antartica. Bram Stoker-author of Dracula. Jonathan Swift-satirist and author of Gullivers Travels. Theobald Wolf Tone-revolutionary aided by the French. Eamon de Valera-revolutionary and president of Ireland, played by Alan Rickman in the above mentioned movie. Ernest Walton-scientist who was the first man to split the atom. Arthur Wellesley-better known as the Duke of Wellington, defeated Napoleon at Waterloo. William Butler Yeats-playwright, Nobel laureate and possibly Ireland's greatest poet.
What a beautiful 💓 and inspirational story. Very well told Simon. What's funny is I really needed a uplifting this morning. And my husband, music and our 2 year old are currently "white collar homeless" and have been for over a year. It can become a viscous cycle just from a simple back set
Big fan. Watch you almost everyday, seen almost every bio, also a toptenz and today I found out subscriber. Just gonna leave some suggestions. More 60’s iconic 60’s rock music legends, like the John Lennon bio. Jimi Hendrix Janis Joplin Mick Jagger Keith Richards Bob Dylan Jim Morrison Eric Clapton The rest of the Beatles Also other musicians Bob Marley David Bowie Freddie Mercury Brian May Ozzy Osborne Micheal Jackson Elton John Madonna Elvis Amy Winehouse Kurt Cobain Maybe some drummers John Bhonnem Buddy rich And rappers Eminem Kanye west Just a though and sorry if you’ve done some of these. Keep up the good work :)
Wow I remember bawling my eyes out watching the Pursuit of Happiness and watching and listening to this autobiography made me cry more. Keep up the autobiographies of fantastic people!
Amazing! It made my dream of being an accomplished author not so crazy after all. I’m hitting a lot of roadblocks, but I know I can succeed. If Chris could pull him up, I can too!
Such an incredible story. So many small kindnesses from strangers, people can be amazing. This one made me cry, I won't lie. His devotion to his son is so touching and beautiful
How hard one person could be faced up, just can’t imagine and don’t dare to imagine about this,,,, life is tough that is true but sometimes it is harder for someone
You really have to respect Chris Gardner for turning his life around and getting to where he is in the process, because once you get into that situation he was in, it becomes almost impossible to get back on your feet, as you don’t have an address to put on your resume, you don’t have clean clothes to wear to a job interview, you don’t have a phone to be contacted on among other things that can seriously deter any prospective employer from even looking twice at you. Also to add on to what Simon said about not all homeless people being mentally unstable druggies, imagine if tomorrow you lost your job. Then imagine if the day after that your relationship ended, leaving you with no more paycheque-to-paycheque income. Where do you think you would end up if you don’t have enough money in your savings account? And keep in mind that even if you do have enough in your savings to fund yourself for some time, you better hope you find work quickly otherwise you’re guaranteed to end up on the streets with nowhere to go. Respect to Chris Gardner and respect to Will Smith for the film The Pursuit of Happiness
I actually watched an interview of Chris Gardner not long after the movie came out. The man is smart, humble guy and the interview was excellent, but it didn't even get near the depths that you went into. Thanks for the further enlightenment.
Thanks to the 2008 crash I was forced to short sell a house in Arlington VA and start over, alone and saddled with a quarter million in debt. It took until the middle of 2015 to pay off the debt. I now own a 25 acre farm and am in the process of buying two adjacent properties. Never let life get you down. Things do get better. It just takes time, toil, and belief in yourself.
His life is highly inspiring... Great video brother! But you really should do that Pablo Picasso bio. He has everything, in his life he went from Rags to Riches... From a guy that went from craving money, to Communism. and so much in between.
I know that all your videos are about humans but I think that you should do a biographics on Secretariat. He is an awe-inspiring story and the people that associated with him are also interesting. His is a 'feel good' story and truly a perfect creation. I love your channel and have watched from the beginning. That in itself is odd cause I don' watch many videos with English accents.
Just found out about this movie in a very serendipitous way... As I have a friend with the same name... See this at this time even though it's an old movie. A scene story within amazing message To just keep going! I think this was brilliantly done and amazing research ..one small criticism is if you can speak a bit slower... It's a little hard to digest all this rapid-fire without natural catch your breath pauses here and there :) ty for this episode!
I'd first stumbled upon Chris' epic tale back in 2004. I'd gone on to read his novel since then, as well as see the film. The dark parts of his life are absolutely gut wrenching 😨😰😖 Geez😢 So happy that he was able to navigate through the darkness and forge on to prosperity 👊👊 This is an American story 🇺🇸✊
Thank you. Thank you for making biographies like this. When I scroll through Facebook and see how police brutality is destroying the African-American community, I do forget that people care. Thank you.
I love these rags to riches biographics, I just finished reading Richard Bransons autobiography with the 2 updated chapters, currently reading an autobiography on a female psychiatrist who was a manic depressive, and have ordered Warren buffets biography in the mail
"Your a good papa". Made me almost cry
I did cry
It got me, i cried
I'm not gonna lie.. it made me cry
Same here... my eyes got watery everytime I heard it. (I watched the video multiple times.)
I'm a mess here, tears streaming

Well done ! Persistence and a positive attitude can go such a long way.

Wow, that’s awesome to hear. Congratulations. God bless you and your fam.
@@gina4808 thank you lo vely lady. Happy Father's Day. Hope yours is in good health
The actual story is more heartbreaking than the movie...
Thats exactly what I thought.
It really is...damn!!
I read the book before the movie.

He was sexually assaulted by a family member young.
Great story of overcoming obstacles

What a fantastic man and an incredible story. Thanks for producing this.
Well Done Chris 👊🏽 God Bless You & Thank You for not giving up.
Red Pill prime Indeed. I hope they do Too
This story inspired me to not give up and keep pushing forward.
I like this kind of video. It's not a person who changed history or is known for great events. It's just a regular person with an inspiring story. Much more relatable, even for somebody like me in a totally different demographic
Just goes to show that If you REALLY want something, NOTHING will stop you... That is the resiliency of the human spirit. Great choice of topic today!
Oh that picture of his mother! She was so lovely! Thanks for another great story, I really love this channel!
An absolute badass, I love this one
Edit: Watched this one twice now.
This guy is a real father and hero 🌹
Good people are good people no matter what society tends to think of certain kinds of people. We should all remember that more often.
Remarkable, inspirational story! What an amazing man who never gave up!
This video almost made me cry. This man is truly inspiring.
Man, that's a feelgood story if there ever was one. I loved The Pursuit of Happiness but never knew about the man who it was based on. Thank you for doing this video👍
Pursuit of happyness.
It was purposely misspelled. If you saw the movie, you know why.
So love your channel. The way you present people's stories is so interesting.

Ok Simon, jeez. Your dulcet tones and the moving story brought me to my knees and a wet eye, but I couldn't let that tear drop. Good work!!
Great story. Nothing is impossible if you believe in God and yourself. Bravo Chris Gardner.
can one boldly assume you are not familiar with the Dunning-Kruger effect then?

youtube is double dipping ads now. Playing 2 ads back to back.
Has your revenue doubled or is youtube pocketing that 2nd ad?
Nope, our revenue is consistent.
I've had the same issue..
The Pursuit of Happyness is a great movie. Brought me to tears.
Thanks for uploading, enjoyed the video immensely.
Hello Biographics team, your vids are awesome:)
I could only watch the movie once, i cried the ENTIRE time 😭😭
Could you guys do an episode on Thomas Sinkara please?
Sex workers helped him out too????? That's so amazing.
Prostitutes are people too. Just because you live that lifestyle doesn’t mean you are less than human
And businessman can be completely soulless dickheads wow who would've thought?
A true success story, gets me riled up
The movie was mind blowing , all those events pretty much destroyed his life but made him learn
The movie made me cry
Kinda glad they left the first part out of the movie. I cried enough watching it as it was. Hell, i just teared up listening to this.
What a beautiful 💓 and inspirational story.

He took care the real blessing his son. He got wat he deserved
I'm working on biographies with my 7th graders. I totally used this to introduce Chris Gardner before we began research on him. Thank you!

Really enjoyed this one, thanks.
Wow I remember bawling my eyes out watching the Pursuit of Happiness and watching and listening to this autobiography made me cry more. Keep up the autobiographies of fantastic people!
kinda wish they stuck with his full story. it's still amazing and inspiring. I also wish they showed more of him with his mother.
Amazing! It made my dream of being an accomplished author not so crazy after all. I’m hitting a lot of roadblocks, but I know I can succeed. If Chris could pull him up, I can too!
Don't give up on your goal
Inspiring! Never give up and never quit!
YA GOTTA DO ERNEST SHACKLETON ! btw great vid as always
An amazing story
@@archstanton6102 the most ironic part is he failed in all goals he set but still accomplished survival like the world had never seen before
Yes! Saw "The Pursuit Of Happiness"! Great movie!
I have seen the movie 3 times.
that was an amazing and horribly sad story. thank you.
Such an incredible story. So many small kindnesses from strangers, people can be amazing. This one made me cry, I won't lie. His devotion to his son is so touching and beautiful
Excellent end quote. Anything is attainable with hard work.
A biographics episode on Niki Lauda would be interesting given that he recently passed away. A truly fascinating figure.
Better than the Movie
You should do a video on Fransisco Franco, dictator of Spain.
After watching this, you thought of Franco??? Smh
Dear Biographics, Thank you.
pulled so many heart strings
Thank you, Simon. I wish YT would stop turning off my notification bell. I'm glad I found this.
Thank you for this video! Amazing subject and message.
How hard one person could be faced up, just can’t imagine and don’t dare to imagine about this,,,, life is tough that is true but sometimes it is harder for someone

That part of his son saying “ your a good papa” got me 😭

Thanks for sharing this Bio. It actually inspired me to create an animated video on Chris Gardner's story on my channel. Thank you
Dude I cried.
Under appreciated Biographic
You should do one of these on Kareem Abdul Jabar
Do Sir Arthur Wellesley the Duke of Wellington
His life is highly inspiring... Great video brother! But you really should do that Pablo Picasso bio. He has everything, in his life he went from Rags to Riches... From a guy that went from craving money, to Communism. and so much in between.
I've been binging Biographic videos but this is the first that got me in tears
What a great story. It's a true example of perseverance, having never seen "The Pursuit of Happiness", Might need to check it out.
A mind that could not be held down by his circumstances

One of my favourite movies ever made, and great to see a video about the man behind it
I'd like to report a problem with RUclips.
This video does not have a "Love" button!
Noice.
It’s amazing how many times he was able to get back even though life was always pushing him back down. He is a true model of a father.
Another excellent presentation. One minor correction: A March Madness game is a college NCAA event not NBA.
Awesome video!
Can you make a video on George Lucas?
Even though I saw the movies this description about a tear to my eye thank you
