- Sri Lanka's Marxist-leaning leader, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, grabbed a commanding early lead on Sunday in his bid to become the next president of the debt-ridden country seeking to elect a leader to bolster its fragile economic recovery. Dissanayake won about 53% of a million votes counted so far in the election, Sri Lanka's Election Commission data showed. Opposition leader Sajith Premadasa was second at 22%, ahead of President Ranil Wickremesinghe in third place.

AKD ❤, a physics degree holder, comes from a middle-class family and truly understands the needs of the people. He is surrounded by well-educated individuals capable of helping him transform the country for the better. His main goals are to stop corruption, cut special benefits for politicians, ensure equal laws for everyone, and drive both an industrial and agricultural revolution in Sri Lanka.
Everybody needs to support him and pull together for the sake of the country. This is nothing to do with individuals but who can do best for our beloved country. I thought that person is Ranil for us to come out of the crisis but will fully support AKD now. Nobody can afford him to fail. We will all fall into the abyss.

It's Sri Lanka not Shri Lanka. It's India not Indhia. Sri Lankans were not used to paying taxes so it is not Ranil's fault but one of the IMF conditions was to increase taxes. Greeks were notorious for not paying taxes. AKD will now face his own challenges. It will be interesting to see how he deals with the IMF. Adani is a corrupt individual so it the sooner they block him the better.

@@prolankan333 anyway, India literally offers nothing in comparison to China, besides some unreliable institutional finance and corrupt projects like Adani's. China on the other hand, alone, lends almost as much as development finance as the World Bank, and often with fairly reasonable conditions. India should stop fighting a giant which has a four times bigger economy, and actually focus on improving its own domestic condition since it remains a country with very poor development indicators (far poorer than both China and Sri Lanka).

76 years Sri Lanka was ruled by few families like a Mafia, an underworld gangs called parliament, and a mafia boss or godfather, called president. They all together robbed the country and its resources. No law and order in the country, their wishes became the country law and Order. drug dealers murderers became ministers. Now we are bankrupt. A court convicted murderer for death sentences was released from prison by G Rajapaksha and appointed as a minister by Ranil Wickramasinghe,. a court convicted child killer released from prison by Rajapakshs, that is how they ran the country. it was a mafia rule
AKD election as president will change all aspects of the country, that will affect day to day lives or ordinary citizens as well as rule of law.
Why does every foreign media label Anura Kumara Dissanayake as a Marxist leader? He is from a party leans towards left that's all. This was the first time in 76 years, Sri Lanka got a president who is from a regular family background (except for in 2015. Sirisena was from a regular class family, but backed by the elites).
