I'm starting to expect "tank is fun if the team coordinates" is akin to "playing with friends is more fun than alone" No shit. Playing on a coordinated team makes a role in a team based game feel good? Perhaps that doesn't mean the role is good. Just that the game has that inherent potential to be good when everything goes right. Now play 20 matches before you get that feeling again
> Tank is fun with people who genuinely understand how the game works And that right there is why tank is miserable for most of the playerbase. Half the players just want a rein shield 24/7 to hide behind, others don't understand the concept of "holding space." I could go on, but you get the point. If only one could educate the 80% of players who don't play tank how that role functions, instead of them declaring that they know better about a role they've never touched apart from that one time [insert meta hero here] was OP.
I don't think tank is fun in this game at all even with that. The role is so dumbed down and bland in OW2 from what it used to be in OW1, it's just hard to accept this when we clearly had it better before.
Imagine coming home from work and wanting to forget about reality for a while. The Flats route: you play the miserable tank experience where after every game it's just... a long exhale. You can play your absolute best but a single teamfight could result in a 'gg tank diff' moment. Or perhaps the Emongg route; play damage control to prevent the team from tilting, another odd responsibility. I play this role well, but believe me, it is so tiring to try and keep momentum alive when everyone is uncoordinated. It just feels like a babysitting role, keep others happy and content at your expense.
I remember, some 7-8 years ago. I played league of legends for 4-5 years, climbed all the way to diamond from bronze thru learning and understanding the flow of the game. If you asked me WHY we had advantage in the lane(i was a support main) I couldn't have told you ever, but I always just kinda had a feeling if we were on the backfoot or I could go in or not. One day I won a game as one of my favorite characters and felt literally nothing, I just hit play again...that was the day I stopped playing league. I felt that from flats in this video.
Yeah I relate, overwatch 1 I climbed and learned so much on tank and had fun queuing game after game almost everyday, then overwatch 2 came out and it's like all my love disappeared. I uninstalled a while ago idk what changed from ow1 to 2.
@hiimnifty3625 Could have def been OW2 changes, but sometimes people are in a point in their life where what you onced enjoy just stops being enjoyable and you need a change of scenery. It's pretty common
exactly like me they never seem to follow up or play around the tank but in the end blaming tank when they just let me die not supporting or dps not getting kills as they should and pushing after my dives like im a new player and i understand that its not that hard
Every time I think about playing tank I get reminded I’d have far more fun pulling my own teeth out with ancient tools…… Thank you Flats for saving me 🙏🏽
There is a reason why I almost only play Quickplay Open Queue... much less stressful, and far less toxic people than Competetive. (It is a game, it is supposed to be fun, and that is all that matters).
@@D_Jilla I was and I agree with him, with the 6v6 format the tank role was less stressful since there was 2 tanks to deal with all of this instead of it all being one person
The tank experience gets worse when every game you are yelled at to immediately counterswap or go Dva. I swear they don’t want me to play anything other than dive characters because half of the newer Overwatch community doesn’t know any comp other than dive. I literally have never been asked to go poke rush or brawl.
This is how I feel playing tank, being every where at once keeping my team up and putting pressure on the enemy, yet i still get flamed by my dps or support because they go 4-10 with 7k damage
You know tank sucks when the only thing that differs between them is which one has the Pocket Mercy. Planty of games where I get pub stomped because the entire enemy team hard focused me and my team can’t hit a fucking moth. If you aren’t going to push or utilize the space I just created, at the *very least* hit the Mercy. Send her back to spawn and we can wipe the rest of the team. I’m sick of it, all you have to do is just hit her. 😭
The terrible thing is every toxic Ahole will blame the tank for everything when your dps or supports have the power help the team win as much as the tank does. People rather blame someone else than look at their own mistakes. As a player of every role, each roles feels equally as impactful right now, yet tank feels the most pressure to play.
The first game he played wasn’t a tank diff, but more of a team diff. His back line wasn’t doing much so support had to go dps. Of course he would be pressured so hard and die often.
@@D_Jilla i can kind of answer for him from my own perspective as a tank (im a new player) i assume he meanst what i feel and what annoys me alot of the times which is getting not always but often the most kills or damage as a tank and we're still losing because my team couldnt keep up either dps didnt do their job and got little kills or supports didnt heal enough and anytime i dive with winston for example nobody follows up which is not what you should do when you have a winston tank you play around him and push after his bubble its pretty basic in my eyes and i have just 60 hours into the game its shocking to me how ppl who play it longer cant understand that there is so much a tank can do when people dont use the space the tank created or dont kill anything you just die and do nothing in the end even if u got alot of kills it meant 0 all you effort wasted
Man I’m an OG Overwatch Rein main and my buddies got back into Overwatch. Wow have things changed. I use to consistently be high plat/diamond in OW1 as Rein. I even got 100 away from masters one season. I stopped playing once 5v5 was announced alongside Overwatch 2. The syngery with my other tank was what made Overwatch fun as a tank main. I still feel I got it in me to adapt but man Flats makes it seem that if I start playing comp I may be a gold player now 😂
I think tank is both really fun and really stressful these days. Tanks are giga buffed so you have plenty of opportunity to pop off, but your team kinda needs you to, so if you don’t you’ll get flamed by your teammates. Heck even when you do you still get flamed half the time lmao. But I like how it’s a 1v1 matchup so no matter what I can always swap to something that counters the enemy tank.
From this gameplay everytime he did something he got exploded unless he played perfect overwatch, felt like he was alone 80% of the time and had to 1v5 the entire team since otherwise he afks or the enemy team rolls. Does not look fun in the slightest.
Anti-healing and mei walls are some of the most painful experiences playing tank, if the enemy team have both you just have to play so passively its boring or hope you'll get kiri cleansed.
Two things: Appreciate how comfortable and fine his team when he does clear screw ups, I do mistakes that he does a ton in Plat/Diamond lobbies and immediately get yelled at and some ??? in chat Second thing, it’s these kinda matches for me personally, destroy any at all motivation left I have to play another match
I think my tank experience is that i get stressed because i play with friends, 1 needs to be right, the other is a hater, and one plays like he can take everyone on and they all blame me. That stresses me the fuck out. When i just play by myself, i rarely get stressed. Yeah i play like shit some games but at the end of the day i put the controller down and i dont think about it
Tank is honestly miserable you either succeed or explode. I got back fill or put into tank from all roles my both supports have as much healing as 1 of their supports , they only go dps or the whole enemy team just rushes me and i get left for dead even tho i am playing cover
i’m pretty average plat on all roles but I honestly feel like tank is the most chill of the 3. the only time I really don’t have fun on tank is when i’m playing against a ball or doom 1 trick that is farming my backline and I have to constantly decide to W key or try to peel.
I started playing Overwatch 2 like season 5ish, never touched OW1. I came from COD so obviously I started on Soldier, and eventually forced myself to learn supp/tank. Im Plat in every role, but tank is legit impossible to play now. I got pretty good with Sig and Orisa (Orisa isnt great now i know), but legit anytime I queue tank and play Sigma they just instaswap to Zarya and Symm and absolutely decimate my teammates and I cant do anything. Im sure you touch on other things but this has been the worst experience for me, ive actually stopped queueing tank altogether. I just Queue dps (which is also awful to play rn) but im having fun learning Mei, and im actually a pretty good Bap (for plat lol) so ive been having fun NOT playing tank and learning a new dps.
I like how the devs act like having two tanks wasn't better than one. I literally mained tank and dps in ow1. Ow 2 now I only main support, tanking feels like to much damn pressure now, and imo dps depends way to much on healing now. Then, the dps person I had the most hours with magically was swapped to a tank for NO REASON. It would've made sense if they continued to have a story mode, but they don't. They would rather swap already existing character roles instead of just choosing one of the many characters they already had in development. Lazy ass work smh P.s: Devs should've been made a game mode called "back in the day" with all the old abilities. Should be a once a year event.
Imagine a tank that has jet plane mobility that simultaneously can be used with missiles AND a shield that doesn’t just block, But ABSORBS ANY PROJECTILE. Has TWO lives and an ultimate that’s literally a NUKE and can serve as a getaway to re mech back into FULL HEALTH 😂😂😂 IN 6v6 WE PRAY🙏
It's simply not worth playing tank, if you lose it's your fault, if you win you simply did your job. You must switch to the counter and play terrible heroes like Orisa and Mauga just because they're meta. You must be everywhere, all while not dying even if you can get melted so quickly if your supports aren't helping you. I played tank 99% of the time in OW1 and now I never do because it just ruins my mood
Positivity goes a long way as tank. It can be super stressful, but you can buy a lot of loyalty from just keeping your cool and not screaming at your teammates.
In OverWatch one, I used to have so much fun on tank. In OverWatch 2, The first few seasons weren't awful, they just weren't great. Halfway through season 8 I've just given up on tank. The experience is just so bad, characters. I loved to play just lost so much personality because they cannot do anything. It's also crazy considering the tank buffs make them like raid bosses, so I feel like I should be able to do more, but instead I get counterpicked to Hell and back and I can no longer have fun.
This video is proof we NEED 6v6 back. There is so many times where Flats coulda used the help of his DPS to make play but they were doing nothing to help him. In 6v6 tanks had different potential synergies to aid each other in team fights.
It's games like this that remind me of how stupid the "TaNk SyNeRgYs" argument is for 6v6. Flats likes to play main tanks, but the 2 he wants to play, rein and winston are just completly unable to beat a sigma bunker comp. It's litterly just as bad as double sheild, but oh the "TaNk SyNeRgYs" are the reason why that comp was unkillable, not the broken supports behind it. Like on point flats was lasering an illari for like 10 seconds in a row just for her to be cleased and be back at square one and the only reason he even was able to push through second point was because their team stacked ults and genji got a really good blade. Flats played near perfect and had zero impact, 5v5 is garbage and it is not a balance issue.
He def didn't have zero impact. Just because he doesn't pop off, doesn't mean he didn't provide a lot of value to the team. The issue with tank is that a lot of the value you get by taking space, taking attention, and taking cooldowns is not something you can see on the scoreboard. A tanks value is not something that feels clear like getting a headshot kill. Btw it was the same thing in OW1. Most people in general don't play tank because it requires a different mindset.
I like playing tank, granted I usually only play when I've got at least 1 friend to play with, I only play quickplay, and I play Mauga a fairly decent amount lol, I just like his gameplay, I've always been a big fan of lifesteal/brawler playstyles :)
Happy weekend!! Excited for season 12? I might have to check it out. But for now I’m really enjoying Deep Rock Galactic. Flats, you should give it a try cause it’s loads of fun! FOR ROCK AND STOOONE!! 🎉
This is so true!! also I agree with people in the comments...pretty much you get blamed for everything even if you play almost perfect games. Us tanks cannot please healers and dps its just either or lol
I just uninstalled the game for the last time until 6v6 is back. Imagine getting hacked, slept, pushed around by Orisa because you're just a giant target on the payload, and at the end there's the inevitable "tank diff" from your team.
I swear to God it’s always someone with a private profile talking shit to you at the end of the game despite doing the bare minimum (they want to hide their poor stats/10 and 20% WR). And it’s 100% a support player who flames the tank and occasionally the dps.
Frankly, OW2 in general is the most stressful competitive game I've ever played. I primarily play tank which sucks some major ass but at least gives me a stronger feeling of agency compared to DPS and support. Yet, DPS and Support are still not easy roles. I don't know if it's because of 5v5 or power creep but this game just feels like insane chaos at all times and you're required to be locked in from the first second. One teammate having an off game, especially tank, equals getting your shit rolled over. I've never had a game exhaust me before. This just gets pushed to the extreme with the blatant cheater/hacker problem.
It's because of the DPS autism, they wanted a team game to be more about solo plays (i.e. them), they wanted more impact, they wanted xyz all handed to them on a platter, they scream about role q because they think removing all restrictions means they'll be the solo star with 2 tanks and 3 supports pocketing them the entire match as they pop off (hint there's a reason open q is just tanks and supports). Tanks going to a singular role did not work, it has never worked, 222 RQ is the way the game should be played
There is no world or way a game should be this stressful to just play. I'm not saying Tank should be easy to play or a roflstomp of the enemy team, but this just isn't acceptable anymore. Something does need to change. I don't know the answer, personally I think either 6v6 or 7v7 could be the answer. I honestly quite like the 7v7 idea from Flats. It should alleviate both the DPS queues as well as the immense stress of playing Tank.
I have a clip that I don’t quite understand…my Mauga was roughly half health and he popped his ult trapping 4 enemies (not a good ult, at all). I try my best to keep him alive by popping my Zen ult. He proceeds to get healed for a second then blows up. There was no Ana or anything, and when I watched the replay you just watch his health disintegrate as I’m floating right next to him in my ult. Anyone maybe can help? I know there are a lot of factors, but curious on what could’ve happened.
as a tank player it has been so miserable playingthe role where everyone blames you. I have to litterally play counterwatch while my dps just 1 tricks heroes and blames me
The last time i played tank was in OW1. i havent even considered the role after OW2. Why would i, its counterswap or lose. even if i do get to play my hero they gutted zarya and a lot of other off tanks entire purpose. Oh you had a fun game on tank? unless it ended in a victory screen i guarantee someone took time out of their day to shit on you for your performance, even in qp. I used to grind to a higher rank and dream of being as good as the pros. Now i hit t500 as a participation award for getting my 50 games in early enough, on a hero i didnt originally want to play, in a game that feels like its half luck.

And that right there is why tank is miserable for most of the playerbase.
“I fell through the map” 😂. I ❤ flats
3:21 and 6:22 "big slam" damn i remember when that ment you killed someone
now it just means u got suzu and lamp out 😭😭
Imagine coming home from work and wanting to forget about reality for a while.
@@hiimnifty3625 couldn't say, but I will that it feels more soulless with the battle pass and money money money of it all.
@hiimnifty3625 Could have def been OW2 changes, but sometimes people are in a point in their life where what you onced enjoy just stops being enjoyable and you need a change of scenery. It's pretty common
@@D_Jilla burnout is real for sure
In my experience playing tank the phrase ive said the most is “WHERE TF IS EVERYONE?”
😂
exactly like me they never seem to follow up or play around the tank but in the end blaming tank when they just let me die not supporting or dps not getting kills as they should and pushing after my dives like im a new player and i understand that its not that hard
Every since I started playing DPS this game got so much better
Every time I think about playing tank I get reminded I’d have far more fun pulling my own teeth out with ancient tools…… Thank you Flats for saving me 🙏🏽
There is a reason why I almost only play Quickplay Open Queue... much less stressful, and far less toxic people than Competetive. (It is a game, it is supposed to be fun, and that is all that matters).
@@DanildFlammeexactly bro I only play open q now as a tank main
the detroit become human stress bar in the thumbnail.. perfect.
great video, flats. now answer me.
28 RANKED WINS? YOU DIDN'T WANT TOP 500, HUH?
DID YOU FEEL LIKE BASTIONMAIN ?! SUPERTF ?!
3:25 I would've lost it. Dude did not react at all lol
Every tank game should be considered an uphill battle
😂 and people still wanna argue 5v5 is better than 6v6 yeah we never had this issue in OW1
Were you a tank player in OW1 there still were plenty issues especially as a solo q tank
@@D_Jilla I was and I agree with him, with the 6v6 format the tank role was less stressful since there was 2 tanks to deal with all of this instead of it all being one person
You know tank is stressful when you have to switch like 4 different times.
As a player of every role, each roles feels equally as impactful right now, yet tank feels the most pressure to play.
its almost like taking the entire tank burden on one person's shoulders is too high of an expectation
I actually cried when I saw the big shatter and Kiri just cleansed it
"kiri is in a good place right now" - OW community probably
As a tank main this video STRESSED me out man. WP
im never touching tank role again, it is so stressful
The first game he played wasn’t a tank diff, but more of a team diff. His back line wasn’t doing much so support had to go dps. Of course he would be pressured so hard and die often.
Tank was always pretty stressful to me but it was also so rewarding. Now even when I play well I basically get nothing done.
That's interesting cause I feel tank is the most impactful it has been right now. Why do you think you feel that way?
I still feel I got it in me to adapt but man Flats makes it seem that if I start playing comp I may be a gold player now 😂
0:55 Was that the barrier, or did Ram literally punch Sig's rock? lol
ah yes, the floor here is made out of floor.
With the new update, tanks are SUUUPER op
Anti-healing and mei walls are some of the most painful experiences playing tank, if the enemy team have both you just have to play so passively its boring or hope you'll get kiri cleansed.
Two things:
Appreciate how comfortable and fine his team when he does clear screw ups, I do mistakes that he does a ton in Plat/Diamond lobbies and immediately get yelled at and some ??? in chat
Second thing, it’s these kinda matches for me personally, destroy any at all motivation left I have to play another match
Reins optimus skin not transforming into truck mode for charge is a serious missed opportunity.
6v6 is a cool idea. I heard marvel rivals will be good
istg this is how it is every time i play tank lmfao😭😭😭, absolute shambles of a role rn icl
i’m pretty average plat on all roles but I honestly feel like tank is the most chill of the 3. the only time I really don’t have fun on tank is when i’m playing against a ball or doom 1 trick that is farming my backline and I have to constantly decide to W key or try to peel.
THAT THUMBNAIL IS AMAZING AND CREATIVE AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I LOVED DETROIT BECOME HUMAN
I cant be the only one that noticed the Detroit: Become Human style thumbnail with the stress meter and the processing LED.
7:28 Emongg got runover by a reindeer, tough.
Lazy ass work smh
P.s: Devs should've been made a game mode called "back in the day" with all the old abilities. Should be a once a year event.
Still waiting for suzu to be a cleanse as intended rather than grant immortality
Imagine a tank that has jet plane mobility that simultaneously can be used with missiles AND a shield that doesn’t just block, But ABSORBS ANY PROJECTILE.
Has TWO lives and an ultimate that’s literally a NUKE and can serve as a getaway to re mech back into FULL HEALTH 😂😂😂
IN 6v6 WE PRAY🙏
The least offensive part is the infinite ammo chain shotguns. Nah fr tho the shotguns are so mind numbing that’s why I don’t play her.
That’s been my experience as a tank since the beginning of OW2. Unless I’m with friends forget about playing tank
Always remember, tank isnt so bad until you hear the HWUAA HAAA
Positivity goes a long way as tank. It can be super stressful, but you can buy a lot of loyalty from just keeping your cool and not screaming at your teammates.
0:55 did he punch the rock or did it just get blocked by the pixel of a shield?
In OverWatch one, I used to have so much fun on tank. In OverWatch 2, The first few seasons weren't awful, they just weren't great. Halfway through season 8 I've just given up on tank. The experience is just so bad, characters. I loved to play just lost so much personality because they cannot do anything. It's also crazy considering the tank buffs make them like raid bosses, so I feel like I should be able to do more, but instead I get counterpicked to Hell and back and I can no longer have fun.
that was, painful and exhausting to watch.
personally I feel more good waiting for a partie than playing the actual game
Maybe you didn't notice, but when overwatch 2 launched, they stole a tank from us
Don’t worry this game is pure garbage but thanks to marvel rivals and threat of competition at last they are bringing back 6v6
I play 1 game of tank, win or lose, and I feel like that’s enough.
Emonggs commentaries are so adorable 😭
Extra points for the Zelda combat music
ahhhhh i was wondering where it came from sounded familiar
That Detroit Become Human thumbnail! *Hell yes!!*
My battery for tank is literally 2-3 games. After that im done
I play ... Doomfist and if doom dont recibe a buff in this season 12 patch im taking my own life 🙂
I just love No heals as a tank
took like 7 L's back to back today playing tank...ahhhhh the good life.
Alright, so.. why is a guy named MoonHamster playing on Hanzo and not one tricking Hammond?
LOVE the music, makes me wanna play BOTW again or finally buy TOTK.
Does anyone know where the music from 9:35 onwards is from? It sounds like something out of final fantasy to me
I like playing tank, granted I usually only play when I've got at least 1 friend to play with, I only play quickplay, and I play Mauga a fairly decent amount lol, I just like his gameplay, I've always been a big fan of lifesteal/brawler playstyles :)
Remember how fun tank was in 6v6. Its great to see the devs dont care about their players having fun
One must imagine tank mains happy.
I was mad stressed just watching your POV.
Happy weekend!! Excited for season 12? I might have to check it out. But for now I’m really enjoying Deep Rock Galactic. Flats, you should give it a try cause it’s loads of fun!
FOR ROCK AND STOOONE!! 🎉
Song name?
This not only shows that the current format can’t be balanced but also shows how oppressive sigma can and has been.
That was hectic.....
6v6 would fix this
Frankly, OW2 in general is the most stressful competitive game I've ever played.
Tanks going to a singular role did not work, it has never worked, 222 RQ is the way the game should be played
every player should have to complete tank placement
I dont remember the last time I saw flats play tank in comp but I dont know much of what's been going on in the stream
Watching this was stressful bro 😭
good video flats!!!
Flats really needs to play the 6v6 code bruv, maybe he can have fun again that way
as a tank player it has been so miserable playingthe role where everyone blames you. I have to litterally play counterwatch while my dps just 1 tricks heroes and blames me
I can see even the best tank players have trouble being tank jeez
