Anyone who hates Jason Newsted and calls themself a Metallica fan should never refer to themselves as such ever again, Jason is the reason Metallica is still around today.
I liked how when they started playing Orion Jason instantly went into a calmer mode that showed respect toward what he was playing and who wrote what he was playing. And then of course, when he started playing his solo again it was all lost in the crazy look on his face...

Why Jason plays everything with a pick is because it's his style. He didn't try to mimic Cliff. He played everything in his own style. Cliff didn't use a pick - he played everything with his fingers. And I know Jason also sometimes uses fingers, at least in the studio. But pick playing is his thing. Same with Duff McKagan from Guns N' Roses. Pick is part of their playing style. Also, the original Metallica bassist, Ron McGovney, played with a pick.
Orion isn't a song, it's a feeling! It sends chills down my spine listening to this without the drums. And slower tempo like this makes it more emotional. The bass solo flowing into the guitars just runs through your veins and hits your heart. I love how Cliff, Jason, and Rob all had different styles and sounds, but they all brought something unique to Orion. By far making Orion my favorite song by Metallica. Been a fan since I was 8 years old. Keep Rocking, Everybody! ❤

The reason that the part Jason plays is different (in Orion) could be because it takes inspiration from a deviation in the riff you can clearly hear sometimes in the Master of Puppets Demo tape ruclips.net/video/TYgroh_602Q/видео.html The deviation can be heard around 52:57
