As a local I find this video hilarious and surprising how lost people unfamiliar with the Alps are. You turned around, and got back safely. Kudos for not needing a helicopter rescue! ❤
1. Always check the weather in the mountains. Don’t underestimate it. 2. Sunblocker in the mountains is totally necessary. 3. Hiking sticks are great both ways up and down. Your knees will thank you. 4. Der Weg is das bloody Ziel. 5. No shame in using Komoot or other hiking apps. 6. Only drink water in the mountains if you’re above cow level. 😉 7. You know your dogs best but please watch out for them. Especially in the sun and with the climbing.
In Austria we dont say: "Oh just let the brit who never even saw an actual mountain in his life plan the route - what should go wrong?" We say: "There you go, another bunch of lowlander-tourists got missing in the mountains, *closing newspaper*". No, im not even trying to be funny here. Tourists underestimating the dangers and pitfalls of alpine terrain leads to casualties in the austrian alps on a regular basis. Most of them in the summer. You can get an alpine guide if you are unexperienced. I strongly recommend.
@richardharrold9736 Of course that´s subjective...I would maybe even agree if only women I knew were english. That sucks..like if the weather and "guests" weren´t enough...here in central europe she would be considered +-3,8.. and he seems to be +-7...greetings from Bohemia

Happens a lot in Colorado as well. The best advice I can give to tourists hiking in remote areas here is to go with people who know the area and can read a map, or at least invest in an EPIRB (Emergency locator beacon). And always tell somebody where you’re going and when you expect to be back.
Aaaaah, I love it!!!! As an Austrian who has lived in England and is now living in Germany, it’s been a lot of fun watching your Austria edition videos. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
10:12 my father always used to say the following, when we were hiking in the mountains and wanted to take a shortcut (a rough translation): "a path is the quickest connection between two points. If you take a shortcut (abkürzung) you will arrive later or not at all". I had to think of that when you took the Abkürzung.
As a Tyrolean, I generally ask myself why none of the amateur mountain hikers read the weather forecast. If it says there are thunderstorms in the afternoon, then you don't go on routes where you are on the mountain in the afternoon. The weather changes quickly and every time the mountain rescue team can save these idiots. Just a few days ago, there was a cold snap that had been forecast for days, with severe cooling and snowstorms in the mountains. Nevertheless, these idiots went up the mountain with inadequate equipment and then couldn't go back or forth. Not even the warning of avalanches by locals was taken seriously. Then the mountain rescue service can save these idiots or recover their bodies.
Even as a Lower Austrian (who has been hiking since he could walk in his diapers) you ask yourself that question again and again... people risk not only their lifes but those of the rescue teams that have to get up there to help them
I sometimes think it would be totally justified for the rescue teams to not go on the mission in these cases when it is too dangerous for themselves. I remember that story as well and as someone from Vorarlberg it made me mad haha Fucking Piefkis.
Garda lake area Italian here. I do enjoy spending time on mountains. My first "long stay" time was with my grandfather and his sheeps on the Adamello group during summer vacation, something like 40 years ago. Morons always existed, but the way people approach Mountains is gone south. The sense of danger, being responsible, being considerate, being careful, all of this, in the years has been washed away. Nowadays trails are more like normal roads, runners, bicycles, pets, noisy subhumans wearing slippers. So much changed in the years. I'm happy to see more people enjoying Mountains, but at what cost? Trash everywhere, noise, more accidents (I still find difficult to accept having riders coming at full speed, so many don't understand how to control their bicycles) meh, I really miss the silence, luckly early morning is still good.
Please be careful when you hike through pastures filled with cattle. They seem nice and friendly, but nearly every year people get severely injured or die. Especially when you hike with dogs, since you don't know how the cows or your dogs will react.
I am a bit confused about all the people critizising your hiking style, I believe you guys were quite resposible (tourned around in time, good equipment such as rain jackets, boots etc) and everyone takes the wrong path sometimes. The most important thing is keep the spirit, keep enjoying the view just as you did. Love the video, love all those inside jokes and Liam's reaction to the cow on the pillow really cracked me up. Can't wait for more!
Thank you so much for taking us with you!! 🧡Highly enjoyable, and I loved the banter. And with the doggos?! Be still, my heart... 🥰 Please consider making more of these, it does not have to be a a big trip to somewhere, a daytrip to anywhere closer by (Goslar, Harz Mountains, Heidelberg, North Sea Island, etc) perhaps? Cheers

yeah! Hiking in a thunderstorm on an exposed moutain slope is SO MUCH fun. Seriously, that could easily have ended in a dramatically different way. And don't even get me started on the dogs-near-cows issue.
I know, right? (Well, I don't live there, but I always go climbing and hiking there in the summer and it's gorgeous! especially the Hochjoch area with the Klettersteig and the "Seetalhüsli". Also, in the Nova Stoba, which I believe was the location Liam wanted to go to in the end, they serve the best Topfenstrudel!)
What a beautiful landscape. I only know the snowy version because I've only been there for skiing so far - frequently enough to know all the routes by heart. 😅
I'm a German living in Austria. Once my partner and I took the "mid level" tour down the mountain, because I thought 'what could go wrong with mid level?'. I ended up fearing for my life on the slippery slope down the mountain and had to be coached by two Austrian retirees how to properly walk downhill. Since then I have hiking poles and a big deal of respect for Austrian mountains. ;-)
9:57 That kind of bowl right there I’ve heard tell of. It’s called a cold sink. That’s why there’s still snow there. At night, even in the summer, it’s the second coldest place in Europe. I learned never to build camp in a place like that because you’ll freeze to death. The alpine areas are full of these cold sinks due to the presence of limestone.
loved the editing, commentary and music choice, you two had me smiling and chuckling throughout the whole video, the sense of humor you both have complement each other making it for a wholesome fun video :) excited for part two!

These two are so cute, so adorable, I wan't to pet them and give them treats and cuddle them lots and let them lick my face, they are just too sweet! The dogs are not bad either.
You're so lucky to live there! I always go there in the summer and it's absolutely stunning. However, I guess the many tourists can be quite annoying for locals.
A good hiking staff is essential for mtn hiking. It helps you climb and descend and stabilizes you on slippery terrain or in creeks. You can also use it as a balance pole for crossing a log.

They should have them on leads, especially if the cows have calves, and sheep farmers in Britain certainly don’t like free running dogs.
