I should comment that the thing with the TLOU multiplayer game that caused them to cancel it was in their announcement that the game was gonna be so huge and the live service element of the game they wanted to make it would be so time consuming for a long period of time that their other projects would suffer greatly for it, in their words they would be a "live service only studio" for years and years to come and ultimately that just isn't really Naughty Dog. Overscoping in video game development happens all the time, so it's not surprising that it happens severely for this game in particular, because Naughty Dog have never done a live service game before and even like over a year ago they knew this was going to be their most ambitious game ever. So it was just too much and they quit sooner rather than later before making any grand promises around what the game was gonna be and when it was coming, like the only official material released was some concept art and vague setting description from Neil at the same time they announced the Part I Remake. But still, that's like 2-3 years of development time that they're gonna have to abandon or do their best to repurpose. So it's not that they didn't wanna make the game, the team was really passionate about it and were very disappointed to cancel it, it would just come too much at the expense of everything else they want to do and what they know they're great at and loved for. Including as we now know, if they had kept developing this multiplayer, TLOU3 would be delayed many more years, meaning that no matter what Naughty Dog did in that position, they were leaving a lotta people out to dry, whether it's the hype for the multiplayer, for Part III (and the possible small Tommy game), for their new IP, someone loses. I guess they decided that (and I agree) that more people lose if they don't cancel this TLOU multiplayer game now.
I'm definitely hopeful that the live service game they were working on gave them some sick ideas for the last of us in general. Wither it be multiplayer for part 3 or ideas for the story. thanks for the comment i love to know all information i can about Naughty Dog and The last of us :)
