Hey man, I’m a 52 yo hotrodder from Australia and I just wanted to let you know that I’m about to take on my first ever automatic trans rebuild and I have found your videos really helpful. Thanks for doing what you do!! 👌👍 very thorough and informative. Regards Rod.
Dude you told me you hadn’t done a 80E before! Dang you’re a master at it. I don’t know I would tackle one yet but I learned a whole lot about it. Thanks for the great detail you went in to! Bless you pal!
Wow, you make my 80e transgo video look like a hack job! Been watching you and hunter for 6 months, love the sloppy content! This was a very well edited series, can't wait to hear clapped out vs. Rebuilt & model results in the ranger. Keep em coming!
Great, to-the-point video! I have put TransGo kits in TH400's. I watched this vid more so to see if I could decipher what is in my trans, but also to see what is involved in the TransGo kit for the 80. What? I bought it on craigslist from a guy who had it built w/ a Monster Mega SS kit by his uncle, but changed his mind to go w/ a 6 speed manual instead. The trans worked fine at 1st...for all forward gears. I never thought about reverse, as long as it worked. Two months in, I lost reverse. Researching, I found that the reverse servo piston pin is the most likely culprit when everything is fine except reverse and low-gear braking. Taking the valve body out to get the servo piston cover/servo piston/piston pin out, I FOUND OUT at least some of what is in it...the yellow pressure release spring, orange reverse piston return spring, and 7 check balls. I didn't take the separator plate off as I did not want to disturb the gasket, but from what I found, the trans has the HD2 kit. Oh, and it looks like the boost valve on the pump was also changed/is new.
I know your vid is older but I inquired with transgo about the pressure relief mod issues and for the differences between the transgo 2 and 3 kits, here’s what they said- “The HD2 requires a computer, it keeps it automatic. No design change, the good old Urban Legend that a pressure relief causes transmission to fail is just nonsense that does the rounds online by people that don't even know enough about basic hydraulics to know they don't know. That pressure relief when installed properly does absolutely nothing unless one day there is a pressure regulation issue, at which point it would simply kick in to save you a bunch of money on broken parts. Blaming it for a transmission failure would be like blaming your fire insurance policy for you house getting flooded during a hurricane. LOL” What’s in quotes is their reply. Have you personally seen the relief mod issue you are saying to avoid? Thanks!
I have found that the "the pressure relief modification" is for 1999 and earlier. Somewhere in 1999 GM fixed (updated) the OBDII. This solved the runaway high line pressure problem. If using an aftermarket computer, this should not be necessary.
Great videos man, I just have a question, I notice that you didn’t do the step 4 that states to drill a 3/64 hole thru side wall on the pump stator, did you forgot? It is really important to do it? I’m asking because I forgot to do mine I still have the pump out but I just don want to take everything apart please let me know thanks!
Sonnax makes a boost valve with built in pressure relief so you don't have to drill your valvebody. The Transgo relief setup is a problem waiting to happen if that spring gets hung up..you will burn down your trans..otherwise it's a great kit.

@@BlaserBuilds that’s my fault I was speaking of the snap ring that you used from the trans go kit. I think (not sure) it’s the upgraded ring behind the pump.?
I’m gonna be doing the 80 swap on my 2001 Silverado soon and was told this kit was the best bet to help it live? I’ve also been watching your video on how to do the whole rebuild
@@ericcrews2328 The only upgraded snap ring that comes with the kit is the intermediate snap ring, and I usually recommend leaving it out unless you're already removing the pump and drums for a rebuild. If you're doing a rebuild you can dual feed internally and wouldn't need this kit.
@@wilperroreyes7390 it's fine if you install it. If you want to plug it now you can just tap it and plug it with a set screw. Leaving it out just eliminates the risk of the valve getting stuck and leaking creating a pressure loss scenario. Low risk, but its possible. It's common now to just skip that step.
@@BlaserBuilds ok thanks for the advice i am building trans for a high performance car so would like to avoid any mishaps i will. Try getting a plug thanks again!
