Ammonium dichromate is burned and decomposes to green chromium(III)oxide. The reaction also produces steam and nitrogen.
This chemistry experiment is easy to demonstate at home.
The video of the chemical experiment is in 4k.

@@danvoznak hi, actually this was reffered from a paid course for an entrance exam where we were studying the p block elements in which the topic was prepration of nitrogen gas and we studied the reaction of ammonium dichromate and our chemistry teacher asked us to watch the reaction on YT, unfortunately there is no link for that lecture bit thanks for uploading the video. Love from India 🇮🇳

DO NOT DO THIS EXPERIMENT IN A NON VENTILATED AREA. DO NOT DO IT IN A ROOM YOU SLEAP. ALWAYS WEAR GLOVES AND PROTECTIVE GLASSES. Ammonium dichromate and chromium oxides are carcinogens!!

In the early seventies I was in the 6th grade. I took plaster of Paris and toilet paper and made a volcano. Use a small tuna can who are the volcanoes vent. I used ammonium dichromate, and got an "A"for my science project. That was so cool!!!! Thanks for reminding me!.......... I'm just a 65 year old kid.

Haha, must be a great memory!
I am sure I will remember this one too - I recorded the video, still in high school, alone in the chemistry lab. Meanwhile, my other classmates had boring lessons behind the corner😄

'Way back in the primitive* sixties, we once had a chemistry period at school when the lab was unavailable for some reason, so we had to use a regular classroom instead. Our very hands-on teacher decided to enliven the occasion by performing this experiment right there on the master's desk at the front of the room. (Glasses? Gloves?? That's for wimps! He also once blew up a gas jar full of oxygen through igniting too much magnesium in it.)
    * From the Elf 'n' Safety point of view, that is.

Haha, that sounds like a fun, but unimaginable in these times. Back when I published this video, I was surprised how many people on reddit wrote, that this must have some safety warning... actually, my chemistry teacher just let me and my camera into the chemistry lab during her classes, I could do basically what I wanted in there. Well, I miss that times :D

Can we put hand into this experimental Volcano 🌋?

    • @danvoznak

I would never touch it - Ammonium Dichromate is carcinogenic
Unfortunately I do not know what's the internal heat of the reaction. It would be interesting to find out though.

Although it may be easy to demonstrate at home, it shouldn't be taken as a joke, the chromium oxides which joyfully jumped to the camera are known carcinogens. This reaction should be done at least with gloves and in a well ventilated area.
Also what the fuck was that burner handling?

    • @danvoznak
      @danvoznak  4 года назад +1

You are right. I put a warning in comment and when I get home, I'll put some in the cards.
Next time, I'll focus more on the safety.

Glad to be alive. In the 60s we didn't have all that safety stuff. l lit my volcano off on the teacher's desk with everyone gathered around and the lights were out.
