Seems to be the most rational approach. They clearly seem to be respecting the source material. The music in the trailer is still as amazing as ever. Even if it's not 100% the OG story, if it has the same tone and musical style? I'm likely down for it.
Honestly theres no way they could ever match the original, just on an aesthetic level alone. I'm fairly optimistic that this will be a labour of love to the show and it'll probably be quite a good show in its own right, but I'm not expecting it to be even close to perfect
Listen. There are few IP's that I will be hopelessly hopeful about. This apparently is one. Tbh, I don't think they will have the hardcore fans on board. But I'm in. I'll enjoy it as much as the Inuyasha live actions. Especially if they have that music in there.

I love Cowboy Bebop but I know this live action can't be exactly like the anime and if we can give them some wiggle room on stuff this will be really great 👍

Honestly the DeathNote movie wasn't that bad. People just couldn't look past that it was a different retelling rather than a fourth version of the same damn thing.
It's not his age, but his acting ability. I could see somebody with the skill of Lee Jung-jae pulling off Spike much more easily, despite being the same age. Harold just isn't a very good actor, and it shows.
In retrospect: Big thank you to the VFX crew, you guys really nailed the grimy "show don't tell" atmosphere the original show. @@thetruthroomwherenothingis4979Its because Jet was often voiced by a black actor and put into a Danny Glover role like in Lethal Weapon. If they didnt swap them the whole cast would be white people.
Hoping this leans more into the goofiness and fun aspects of Bebop. I don't think you could make a serious and moody adaptation in live action without losing the charm of its animation. Embrace the camp, and make it fun!
Wtf, wasn't the trailer all about the goof? Here I was hoping they saved at least some of the moodiness, though I agree with you that it should definitely not be a melodramatic-reboot-from-2008 kinda thing :D
I hope it’s fun but I specifically hope the keep the actual silliness of the original instead of trying to go for that detached winking meta humor that’s so common these days. I like detached meta humor but I loved how sincerely goofy bebop can get without trying to justify itself. Idk if I’m making sense
From what I've seen i think you're correct. If you want a more serious take you can't have your cast look like they're cosplaying the cast of bebop. Marvel understood this. Which is why you never see mcu characters wearing outfits that identical to their comic book counter parts.
I’m choosing to view this show as completely separate from the source material. I think that’s the only way that anyone could enjoy it. It looks pretty good!
@@dawishes2329 Oh, I agree there are reasons for it. I like that they seems to be going for a more “anime color palette”instead of the extra dark gritty adaptions we’ve gotten before. It looks fun. And the costumes look true to what the characters wear in the anime, not just “realistic” adaptions of it. I like that they seem to be leaning into the ridiculousness of the original and that they’re keeping the banging soundtrack!
You could have a frame for frame remake of the original with exact reproductions of the anime costumes.... and it still wouldn't be Bebop if you didn't have the soundtrack.

Nothing will beat the original anime, nothing can capture that entirety of that work of art. However, thie looks and feels like it might be something really interesting. I cant wait.
This is the best take on it; the project looks cool enough so far that I'm willing to judge it by its own groove and approach it like a new cover of one of my favorite songs, played in a completely different genre.
It certainly seems like they're trying to be faithful to a degree, but ultimately, it's very difficult to convert a cult classic animation like BeBop into a good live-action adaptation without losing things in the process. I might give it a chance just to see how they've done, but I won't get my hopes up too high.
DAMN... they should have done that! With the gun flip and all. They even have a scene of him saying that in the 2nd teaser on Netflix itself. Not with the gun flip but still, huge missed opportunity in the edit!
Whether this turns out to be an unexpected masterpiece or an expected train-wreck, one thing is certain for both Netflix and the producers: _They're gonna carry that weight_
It's netflix, I had high hopes for this because of John Cho but netflix always finds a way to fail it. The One Piece adaptation is gonna suck just as much lol
Everything was great. The whole show was great. There are just too many toxic self-centered people who love to hate on others. 11/10 I don't care what people say.

The cinematography is the best I've ever seen in a live action remake. It's vfx and sfx are crazy good, even if you don't like the changes from the anime you have to just appreciate the cinematography. We need a petition to keep this going.

I've seen both and honestly I'm not disappointed. The creator will be fine he got money either way. I respect the opinions of those who found distaste instead of a sense of adventure from the conversion. Still you can't deny it was visually stunning and the camera work on point
Just watched the trailer in Japanese version and realized they dubbed it with the original voice actors! I normally watch movies with subtitles but I have to say hearing the original Spike Spiegel’s voice (by Koichi Yamadera) made the trailer so much better.
I hope this doesn't suck. The teaser trailer gave me bad vibes, but this trailer actually gives me positive goosebumps. At the very least, it will draw new fans to the original. Whatever happens... happens.
I think the best thing you can do for yourself is to not compare it too much to the original. They're both made for completely different mediums, made by completely different people.
I can’t watch this. The original Cowboy Bebop is a masterwork of art. It doesn’t need anything added to it. It doesn’t need anything taken away. And it doesn’t need a remake or live action extension. Sorry Netflix. 🙏🏻
Alot of things you have to keep in mind. This season is only going to cover the first few episodes (i would say 5 or 6) of the anime and Edward doesnt show until ep 9 of the anime I take it there probably going to tease her at the end of the season.
This definitely isn't the anime, but it's also clearly trying to have its own identity. The campy ~B-movie aesthetic is an interesting choice. Let's see if they can pull it off.
I'm glad it's not trying to be the anime. When live adaptations try to be the animes they are the absolute worst. I think they are smart by having nods to the style but not trying to complete replicate it.
The B grade aesthetic will arguably work in its favor, as the anime actually went for the same look. The anime IS basically Lupin the 3rd in space after all.
The first time I learned about being "cautiously optimistic" was the remake of Avatar the Last Airbender 2010. Now after Bebop, Samurai Champloo is next. God when will the anxiety end.
Never. You'll either grow old enough to watch your beloved franchises being reinterpreted in an "okay, I guess" way or go down in flames. There is no middle ground. :(
That was over 10 years ago, back when decent movies on comics weren't really a thing, let alone movies based on cartoon/anime... (edit: we had Batman back then as an example but it's not the same and nowadays this genre is really thriving, I'm not a fan but Disney does a great job). This show will try to follow the original and the characterization looks really good. It's also a TV show, so no need to rush anything either. I really don't think this will disappoint. If anything, it will be one of those "yeah, it's a great show and it does justice but I'm just too used to the original anime I've been watching for decades". Anyway, if it's bad, at least you still have the original. But this really looks like our last hope. I can't see any live action being better than this one.
The trailers and promotional work has been really interesting. I'm going to watch this and make believe the anime doesn't exist. I'll probably enjoy it more that way.

@@MrFitzonic I am still not sure If I will watch the series. I may just rewatch the anime, and enjoy the brilliancy of it with the legendary music in it.
In my opinion, this cast was great, the action was great, but the story was changed in places where it didn't need to be. Again, John Cho did a really good job, and Mustafa Shakir REALLY WAS Jet to the core, but what was around them was just... eh. I wish it had a second season that took the criticism and fixed things a little, but I give it a B- for being faithful for what they were.
Now that is some awful casting. Jet Black should have been Terry Crews but it’s acceptable. The milf guy as Spike though? Looks horrible and sounds horrible. Why couldn’t they get a young (not middle aged) actress to play Faye? Ever see John Krasinski with Spike Spiegel hair and his hands in his pockets? I disagree. I feel that there is nothing wrong with this show and that it's more akin to an alternate reality version of Cowboy Bebop, not a 1:1 copy. This show had a great vibe, great performances, and different but interesting versions of the CB characters, It had great effects, great ambience. I thought the action choreography needed some tightening up--it's too loose--but otherwise found the renditions of this alternate universe to be riveting. However, the whining fanbase will never be satisfied, even if the adaptation is good enough. I do really wish they had done something like how Space Dandy was just a spinoff set in the same scifi future. Same tone, get Yoko Kanno, but tell a new story about other bounty hunters or something.
To be fair, Ed didnt appears in the series before episode 9 if i remember, so considering this season only have 10 episodes, its save to say that they are keeping Ed for season (heck the opening already have a open space for when she will join)
I think it might be there. I'm not a huge fan of this yet, but Spike mentioned being in a dream while in love, which seems like something he said in the anime.
I think the actor playing Jet fits the part. But I can't say the same about the actors playing Faye and Spike, they don't give me the same vibe as the characters.
Especially because Jet refers to them as a team. I bet in this adaptation he will convince Spike to save Faye from Vicious, rather than Spike doing it because he still wants to find out if this is all just a dream. And him pointing his gun at Faye in multiple scenes with Jet interfering is not really the type of relationship I'd hope for between them. I know that I have to try and see it as a stand-alone without any relation to the original series. Faye piloting the Swrodfish II for example. It can still be good, at least I hope so.
The more I see this Faye, the more sense it makes. We're never gonna see her moody/depressed/disconnected personailty in the trailers. She was bubbly to mask how out of place she was. Spike, on the other hand, is never going to translate into live action unless you can convince people to actually care about deadpan characters, which they generally don't unless Keanu Reeves is playing them. I think he'll be fine. It's the writing we need to worry about.

Yes, it's not the anime because it's not a frigging anime, silly human!
LMAO dumbest comment of the night right here 🤣
One of the original creators is involved so I trust him.
@@pickle7056 No middle ground between mediocre and bad? So you''re saying there will never be something "slightly bad"?

It was alluded to in the show that Spike may be Jewish, so a white guy could play him. Perfect voice, look, and build- unless you’re hung up on race (which says more about you than anyone else).
That's the Only thing That we Can do... these days
The insanely slow pace of the fight scenes they've showed worries me.
While that's one thing that makes me more optimistic. Especially if they go slow on the music during the fights.
@@njux1871 why would you want slow fight scenes?
@@corylim7351 If they're well paced and the actors sell it, a slower fight scene is far more interesting and tense than a super fast one. Not sure if this show can pull that off though.

I like how they went for more realistic vision of what the actors can bring and do in the right contrast of the anime. And I'm so glad that they kept the fantastic music and the original composers too. Kudos to yokko Kano and the Great and legendary virtuoso "Pierre Bensusan "
Same seeing these trailer changed my mind more then I thought it would. The look of the ships and the over all how it looks when comparing live action to anime looks pretty spot on. They really got me with the music and seeing the swordfish 2 scene at the end of the trailer which is a mirror of the scene from the anime episode I believe with creepy pierrot looking dude. Don't forget to thank John Cho he wanted to make it as authentic as possible anime and got Yokko Kano on board for this.

@@c.galindo9639 John Cho seemed really worried about playing Spike because of his being older and wanted to make it as authentic so he got Yokko Kano I'm guessing he might have helped with other parts as well so as to hopefully please all the anime fans who have been really upset the minute it was announced and other drama that happened.

ya know, some anime's just need to stay as animes. I grew up watching this show on adult swim with many others like bleach and inuyasha. These shows give me instant nostaglia and great memories of the early 2,000s. Spike is 27 years old yet you picked john cho who is 49..he's to old to be spike and he don't even look nothing close to spike. I still liked the character selection for some reason even tho it wasn’t accurate
I think we need to let the original Cowboy Bebop out of our heads, and enjoy this for what it is. Let's be honest, if we didn't have Cowboy Bebop from nostalgia this show would have been dynamite.
