Yes exactly. I love both Star Wars and Star Trek but for different reasons. I love the action, the cool tech and ships, the robots, etc in Star Wars while I love the political talk, theoretical science, and inspiring storylines from Star Trek. I don't like when people say one is better than the other. They are each unique.
+John Doe Every movie or show has a variety of genres blended together. Of course. But if I were to use one term to define and distinguish both Trek and Wars respectively. That's what I'd say :)
+John Doe It's kind of a broad description for each one. Of course each will have elements of the other but broadly speaking, Star Wars has more action, and kind of a western feel to it. Star Trek is more political, with a basis in theoretical science.
Anton Yelchin, to me, is a bigger shock to Hollywood than the death of Heath Ledger. His role as "Charlie Bartlett" was iconic and he was destined to find a role that would ultimately get him an Oscar. But to see him go like this, it's heart breaking.
Anton was found pinned between his jeep and a fence, dead when they found him. It was described as a freak accident, and that brand of vehicle was later recalled for rolling while in park. In case you didnt wanna google it.
Anton was such a talent and it's so sad to think how short his life was, but he has changed so many lives and inspired so many people. And it's not just the Star Trek community but the world has a whole who has lost such a valuable and kind man. RIP Anton Yelchin , you will be in our hearts...
I think my heart will forever be broken over this happening to Anton. Fright night and green room are two of my favourite movies. He was an incredible actor and I will always miss him.
I was born after the original Star Trek series and just before the original Star War Trilogy so while I had figures for both it was Star Wars that every kid wanted the toys for because of the movies coming out every few years. But I also loved STNG and the later movies, a few of the other series and the reboots. To make a long story longer... you can be a fan of both for different reasons because everyone finds something to love in similar genres. Live long and May the Force be with you.
From the moment I watched "Charlie Bartlett," I was a fan of Anton Yelchin. I only became a bigger fan as time went on. The world is without a fantastic actor and person, and I am glad we realize what a loss it truly was.
***** That's what makes all the more tragic.... and not only that, the original actor for Chekov is still alive. He got to live a good life so far..... but Yelchin didn't. :( Tears will be shed in Star Trek Beyond.
I partially agree. I've known and loved the massive Star Wars lore my whole life but I only discovered Star Trek as a teen when I was old enough to appreciate it and its messages. Both have different places in film. I kind of hope what ever Star Trek movies follow the Abrams series mix the action with the old fashioned message storytelling.
my God ya'll make this complaint on Fallon's channel as well. Every single talk show host ask a bunch of questions because they only have so much time with their guest.
It sucks so bad that Anton Yelchin died. I loved him in Star Wars and the Odd Thomas movie. In Futurama terms, I feel bad for whoever has to become his Welshie for the next Star Trek movie.
I first remember seeing Anton in "Charlie Bartlett". I ADORE that movie! Way too tragic that we lost him, but at least we have his body of work to remember him by.
It always hurts when I hear people say how boring Star Trek is. Especially when they are a part of the universe. Star Trek was so important for its time and very meaningful for so many people. That shouldn't be diminished because production quality was not up to standard. Nor should it be diminished because it wasn't as exciting compared to other movies and TV shows. Much love to Anton Yelchin and his family.
Quinto, just because you think something, doesn't mean you should say it out loud. As an actor in a Star Trek movie, if you think Star Trek is boring, keep it to yourself.
He doesnt say its boring. He said as *kid* he thought it was boring. So did I. But what made it boring for me as a kid, is what I now love about it as an adult. Read between the lines!
I love Zachary Quinto, I loved Anton Yelchin, and I've loved Star Trek for all twenty three years I've been alive, but I think that this particular reboot series should end with "Beyond". With the original characters, Star Trek just can't exist without Chekov in my mind...
I'm a serious Trek fan and and Mr. Quinto is precisely correct about the production values. But I really loved the story telling in the original series. He is also right about Wrath of Khan turning the franchise into something special on the big screen.
It struck me as odd too, but I guess for people who do not read science fiction it is not that common of a term. I mean, I have no idea what, if any, subgenres or Romance there are, because I don't read that genre. Maybe Colbert's delivery also had something to do with it.
What I kinda love so much about the new films is that it accomplishes what Roddenberry set out to do. Gene really wanted to take advantage of the visual medium in order to tell his stories but due to budget and technological constraints never could. Gene Roddenberry would be amazingly proud of the work that has been done with this latest generation of films. It's fun and larger then life without losing the sense of intellectual advancement that Trek had since its inception. Also Boldly go Chekov! RIP.
The greatness and charm of Star Trek lies in slow-paced, thoughtful stories. Action's not the most important part. To dismiss those in favor of action threatens Star Trek's heart.
Quinto's generation is why star trek in its mangled state it is today. They dont understand what science fiction actually. Colbert pretty much nailed it.
It's not really mangled, Star Trek was just reinvented and made more spectacle for a new age of viewers. Now Star Trek has strength in movies whereas it was just in the television shows
they just updated it for a new generation nothing wrong with that , you can't keep pumping out what you did in the 70's and expect the young viewers to embrace it . Change is good , accept it.
+Jackson montessori It's okay. You can try looking it up, but at one point, Gabriel (spoilers, duh) tries to hang himself after killing a man with telekinesis, and Elle saves him by breaking the rope with her powers, and he had glasses just like that.
Me and my brother is a real Fans of the show and films and it is sad that we have lost two great people who brought great reallaty to the shows and films so the word given WARP SPEED my friends WARP SPEED to you all
I know him not only Star Trek but also a certain really cheesy action movie where he breaks a knife in his metal skin. (Man, that movie was so bad but so fun.)
At 3:44, I was right there with Zach while Stephen was talking: "yes, wait, complexity to convey this thought, ah yeah, I've caught up now and understand at 3:51," haha. Not that I wouldn't have a similar conversation with friends, but these kinds of words and whatnot are not things you expect to hear on a late night talk show, so it caught me off guard.
I've never hated the reboot movies. while the old stuff is more classifiable as "star trek", I have to remember that this new stuff got me into the franchise. I had a hard time watching tng at first because it just looked too cheesy. whenever I try to get someone into star trek, I tell them to do the reboots, then enterprise to ease them into classic trek like tng and the others
Bad advice IMO. Reboots are not What trek is meant to me and Enterprise is regarded as one of the worst Trek series out there. Better to start with TNG, use a viewing guide, then move onto Deep Space Nine, which is one of the best sci fi shows to ever air on television.
+grand kaiser I agree. These reboots are horrible. They are just sad rehash with no flavor or spice to them. They're just sci-fi movies, not Star Trek.
Honestly it's not a bad plan. Start them off with subpar Star Trek and ease them in to the good stuff. If they are hooked just by the reboot movies, it will be no problem to show them Enterprise.
Lewis, people are not going to pay $18 each to sit in a theater for 2 hours and watch the kind of Star Trek you're referring to - ESPECIALLY teenagers. That Star Trek is meant for 26-episode a season telelvision.
I can only hope that all of the people the trek universe has lost is out in the real universe now, traveling among the stars. Star Trek is such an inspiring series that is an escape, at least for me, from the real world which has not been fun recently. 🖖🏼 Live Long and Prosper.
Star Trek to me was always just good to ok, but the current film series has been great by adding in a more Star Wars feel with cool action. hope it stays on track to keep Star Wars fan interested because that's where the money is
They lost so much of what makes Star Trek what it is. It is a pale comparison. If you like space battles and lasers, there are so many other things to watch. Say what you want about the old Star Trek, but it changed the world. Literally. Both from a technological and social point of view. It has left a legacy of Silicon Valley inventors and CEOs that point to Trek as their source of inspiration. The first interracial kiss was on Star Trek. When Nichelle Nichols (Uhura) wanted to quit, she was called up by Martin Luther King himself, who asked her to stay because her work was that important to society. What will this new crap ever leave for a legacy? Some cool effects that appealed to the masses but were no better than any other top production of the era. That's it. Oh right.. and lens flare.
Alan Frost was a joke, guess u forgot what Zachery said in video about old series was boring, it wasn't ever too boring but the special effects were limited.
I love how Zachary talks, he carries himself with so much dignity and intelligence.
Star Trek will never be the same without Leonard nimoy and Anton yelchin RIP 😔💔
A send-off can be touching. F7 got rid of Paul Walker but it was genuine and didn't feel obligatory.
+garrett1999o3 Only problem is that they had over a year before Furious 7 came out. Anton just died with about a month before the new one comes out.
General Hux Next movie might have a send-off?
garrett1999o3 Yeah that's true. I'm not sure what they'd do but I hope it shows respect to Anton
not funny
Zachary Quinto has such a beautiful way with words. I'm so sorry for the Star Trek family's loss. R.I.P. Anton Yelchin.
Star Trek : Science Fiction
Star Wars : Space Fantasy
Yes exactly. I love both Star Wars and Star Trek but for different reasons. I love the action, the cool tech and ships, the robots, etc in Star Wars while I love the political talk, theoretical science, and inspiring storylines from Star Trek. I don't like when people say one is better than the other. They are each unique.
+Julia Crawford I agree completely
+John Doe Every movie or show has a variety of genres blended together. Of course. But if I were to use one term to define and distinguish both Trek and Wars respectively. That's what I'd say :)
+John Doe It's kind of a broad description for each one. Of course each will have elements of the other but broadly speaking, Star Wars has more action, and kind of a western feel to it. Star Trek is more political, with a basis in theoretical science.
Perfect.
i cried when i heard anton yelchin died. cannot imagine how his friends, co stars and family feel :(
It is sad that both times he was here, he talked about the death of a fellow star trek co-star.
still heartbroken about Anton Yelchin. gone way before his time. i admired his work from the first time i saw him as a teenager. just gutted. RIP
Anton was seriously a true talent. I'm going to miss him, but I'm learning to focus on the great he did rather than the great he should've done.
Anton Yelchin, to me, is a bigger shock to Hollywood than the death of Heath Ledger. His role as "Charlie Bartlett" was iconic and he was destined to find a role that would ultimately get him an Oscar. But to see him go like this, it's heart breaking.
So sad. Hope the next movie has a dedication to Anton.
That's a no brainer. I'm sure they'll have one for Nimoy as well since he has passed on since the last film.
Chekovs replacement needs to be a guy named Yelchin. Fresh out of the academy.
That's a wonderful idea! ^_^
The character Chekov was a replacement. The character that was replace became a god and was killed by another character that was eliminated.
Highly illogical.
R.I.P. Anton Yelchin 😢
Anton was found pinned between his jeep and a fence, dead when they found him. It was described as a freak accident, and that brand of vehicle was later recalled for rolling while in park. In case you didnt wanna google it.

so sorry for them! I've been hurting bad from this.. can't even imagine what they feel like 🖖
Hit's ya hard doesn't it. He was by all accounts that I've heard, a really humble and GRATEFUL person. Definition of tragedy.
Yes, I believe he was.. life can be so unfair!
I love these interviews where the host and the one being interviewed are so clearly intelligent and invested in what they're talking about!
Always so well spoken, and handsome. My deepest condolences to Anton's family & friends, just so sad.
Anyone here watch Odd Thomas? I though Anton was on his way to be like Joseph Gordon-Levitt or Tom Cruise.
Need to check out Only Lovers Left Alive and Green Room. Odd Thomas was a cool flick, he did a lot of genre work in his career.
+Steven Palazzolo don't forget rudderless
+RockNRollaCA LA Charlie Bartlett. :P
and "Like Crazy"
Not by a lack of trying between Star Trek, Terminator Salvation and Fright Night...for me, his best work is his indy stuff.
Zachary Quinto looks so much like a super villain lol
Syler
*Sylar
Maxim Gorobtsov yep he did fit that part very well, I can see him doing a great job in a bond movie.
Well he did star as a villain in Hitman: Agent 47.
"I'm clearly insane"
I think my heart will forever be broken over this happening to Anton. Fright night and green room are two of my favourite movies. He was an incredible actor and I will always miss him.

Anton was a great actor. Always a joy to see in any movie he was in. A great actor gone way too soon. RIP
From the moment I watched "Charlie Bartlett," I was a fan of Anton Yelchin. I only became a bigger fan as time went on. The world is without a fantastic actor and person, and I am glad we realize what a loss it truly was.
I miss Nimoy.
But I think I miss Yelchin even more. :(
Yelchin died far too young.
***** That's what makes all the more tragic.... and not only that, the original actor for Chekov is still alive. He got to live a good life so far..... but Yelchin didn't. :(
Tears will be shed in Star Trek Beyond.
Star Wars is great as a kid but as a teen/adult Star Trek is better.
Of course, you (James T Kirk) are biased. :-)
Apples and Oranges.
Take it back!!!
yes sir
Sylar just needs a hug
RIP Anton, you'll be missed, but never forgotten...
Wow that is sad, i loved him in fright night.
Extraordinarily decent young man . RIP Anton
Yelchin to me will always be the cool stolen boy from Alpha Dog
still remember dropping a tear for his character when he's pleading with Justin Timberlakes character for his life.
i could never watch it agian because of that...they did do a good job.not what i expected to happen..
Zachary Quinto knows so many words. He has the best words. His words are uuuhge
The death of Anton Yelchin really hurts. Now who will we get to describe our nuclear _wh_-essels?
and the lord said get up and walk again.... he is alive have no sadness but happiness because he is with us now everywhere we go in spirit.
"lord"
Live long and prosper.
+Mike Greg dude stfu
+Mike Greg lol its disrespectful to try to say this video was about yelich in any way.
+Mike Greg lol its disrespectful to try to say this video was about yelich in any way.
+gorrillawarfair Yelchin*
Mike Gred, get your head out of your ass.
Space opera isn't a joke it's what George Lucas called it
Thanks, Yoda. ;P
Your so right
+pokadotty3554 *you're
as long as anything involves laser guns pew pew pew it's science fiction. this is what most people think.
Pretty sure the term space opera was coined by Stanley Kubrick to describe 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Nice clip but Colbert just keeps interrupting too much. RIP Anton.
He can't help himself because he's so interested in the subject, more than usual.
omg right?? interject with guests that have nothing to say! it's like zachary can barely get a word in
my God ya'll make this complaint on Fallon's channel as well. Every single talk show host ask a bunch of questions because they only have so much time with their guest.
I totally agree!
I love this actor's look. very handsome.
“Which sometimes translates to boring”.... Absolutely hysterical!!
It appears that the audience never heard of "space opera".
I really love his voice, I would marry that voice
Zachary does such a great job as Spock. I think Leonard Nimoy is happy in heaven about it. Those who chose the cast hit it outside the ballfield.
But he said he didn't think so now. That was an opinion he held as a child growing up in a Star Wars generation.
Foreverlyn No, he said that he liked some of the movies and that he liked the new Star Trek movies.
+DoctorLazers oh I don't know maybe he went back and watched the older ones and likes the new ones because you know HES SPOCK!
On the contrary. Just because you don't like his opinion doesn't mean he shouldn't be able to voice it. It's a minor offense.
He doesnt say its boring. He said as *kid* he thought it was boring. So did I. But what made it boring for me as a kid, is what I now love about it as an adult. Read between the lines!
This new cast is doing such an awesome job of bringing Star Trek back to life. They couldn't have picked a better Spock.
because of Heroes, i always see him as a villain
Lmao me too
i am devastated about Anton Yelchin:'(
I loved Anton Yelchin in 5 to 7 movie. sad to hear of his passing
I love Zachary Quinto, I loved Anton Yelchin, and I've loved Star Trek for all twenty three years I've been alive, but I think that this particular reboot series should end with "Beyond". With the original characters, Star Trek just can't exist without Chekov in my mind...
Just remember the same guy directing Star Trek is directing Star Wars. That's one hell of a resume.
He will be missed, my condolences for him.
Didn't know that bloody face himself could have feelings
damn bro let go
I applaud you
Such a amazing actor I remember him from AHS
R.I.P Anton Yelchin ❤️
I adore Zachary!
I was always a fan of both Star Trek and Star Wars and since childhood I never understood why I must choose one or the other.
I say don't choose, love em both, I do...
4:01 The funniest part and so true. Thought I was the only one.
Whenever I see Quinto all I can think about is his act in American Horror Story. It was just so memorable.
I luv he appears not only in big movies, but small TV role like one in Hannibal.....
nice guy!
Stephen nailed it as far as the difference between Star Wars and Star Trek. R.I.P. Anton Yelchin
I love all of them.(not only for you.)
please! Zachary Quinto!
your other crew-Don't look! Don't touch! Don't speak! Don't follow!
I'm a serious Trek fan and and Mr. Quinto is precisely correct about the production values. But I really loved the story telling in the original series. He is also right about Wrath of Khan turning the franchise into something special on the big screen.
I remember watching The Next Generation reruns growing up, as well as the classic series reruns.
But I love the new movies.
And now we're getting a new Star Trek TV series in 2017 on CBS!
I'm in shock. Rest in Peace, Anton.
my condolences; on a side note: this man in brilliant...
Has the audience never heard the term Space Opera?
+SaphricPCGaming
***** You have the word "Gaming" in your username. You are an actual 10 year old.
It struck me as odd too, but I guess for people who do not read science fiction it is not that common of a term. I mean, I have no idea what, if any, subgenres or Romance there are, because I don't read that genre. Maybe Colbert's delivery also had something to do with it.
i laughed. it was a joke.
if anyone wants to read a great space opera series they should read the honor harrington series by David Weber. it doesn't get better than that.
He is and forever will be... SYLAR! in my eyes. #HeroesForever
Miss you, Anton. 💔 Rest Easy, Angel. 💗💗
What I kinda love so much about the new films is that it accomplishes what Roddenberry set out to do. he'll always be 'Odd Thomas' to me.. i really liked him as an actor. rest peacefully.
Dad loved Star Trek, I loved Star Wars.... So true.
Alpha Dog, Odd Thomas, and Star Trek. What a great film career
Maybe Snoke should consider using a clone army.
I will never see him as anything but Sylar
I finally found the comment...I knew it would be here somewhere. Best show
Yeah I was laughing when sylar was playing as Spock.
SAME. I was literally watching American Horror Story and I called him Sylar the whole bloody time
he is sylar! idk whos powers he stole to fool the world. but dont believe his lies!!
Yes, i thought the fan base was long buried deep.
The greatness and charm of Star Trek lies in slow-paced, thoughtful stories. Action's not the most important part. To dismiss those in favor of action threatens Star Trek's heart.

Josh Dugan Fuck off with that strawman, m8. No one said anything about "pumping" shit out.
Lettuce Prime
no need to get upset , if you don't like others voicing an opinion then don't frequent the comments section .
Love Love Love Star Trek, especially the Original Series.TNG another favorite. There is no other show that compares.
HUMANITY!!
RIP Mr. Nimoy and Mr. Yelchin
I think he did a great job. I feel the same
I have to admit his Spock is as good as one could expect it to be
OMG its sylar
My favorite villain
He looks like Gabriel from season one!
+Jackson montessori Why? If that doesn't please you, when Elle saved him from offing himself.
+Jackson montessori It's okay. You can try looking it up, but at one point, Gabriel (spoilers, duh) tries to hang himself after killing a man with telekinesis, and Elle saves him by breaking the rope with her powers, and he had glasses just like that.
+Jackson montessori no, i meant just the outfit in general ;)
Steven Colbert need to let Zachary Quinto talk more.
That was such a sad and so un-necessary death. Still miss that talented actor.
Rest in peace Anton...
Wow rip to the late actor who recently passed away Star Trek I'm be watching the new movie
Heroes ❤️
I always imagine Atticus Finch would look like him.
Me and my brother is a real Fans of the show and films and it is sad that we have lost two great people who brought great reallaty to the shows and films so the word given WARP SPEED my friends WARP SPEED to you all
everytime i look at this guy i think of heroes.
I don't know if I can watch Star Trek Beyond in cinema... it still hurts to know that this is his last movie.
When you only know this guy from American horror story
I know him not only Star Trek but also a certain really cheesy action movie where he breaks a knife in his metal skin. (Man, that movie was so bad but so fun.)
+Weim Claw Hitman
I only know him from heros....
I've been looking for this comment
I know him from Heroes. Save the cheerleader, save the world.

I love these 3 films.
