A lot has been said about the rules. I don't mind no somber weapons as an attempt to keep things more interesting. But cherry picking the seed to intentionally have serpentless Rykard is a bit too much.

The dramatic music syncs perfectly with "you can not use any of the somber weapons..." and it perfectly captures how desperate and epic the situation is.
Ok, not allowing Serpent Hunter against Rykard seems like it should be the only exception to the no somber rule
That's the only reason they put the rule in, so they couldn't use the serpent hunter, and they couldn't tell them that they can use somber but only not serpent hunter because then they would spoil the rykard fight
@@yxtreme3853 - No, he could've easily just said "Oh, and no Serpent Hunter, If Rykard comes up." It would've been a perfectly natural thing to remember to mention offhandedly.
Out here saying the seed wasn't a 2 hour seed, but the video time indicated he was in store for a treat...

Right after the announcement about banning somber weapons, I was like "Oh hey the luckiest possible drop to get early on would be the halberd you normally get from Edgar"

This seed quickly became about who can get hardstuck the longest on Rykard, in a sloped arena, with no Serpent Hunter. Respect Zoodle for sticking to his guns, but this bottleneck kind of made everything preceding it a bit of a pointless chicken chase
No respect for him on that. This was a troll and he knew it from the start as he's so smugly telling them at the start they can't use sombers at all knowing they'd have to fight Rykard in one of the worst arenas to possibly fight him in short of a tiny arena.

All I can say is wow. Just wow.
The no Somber rule when Rykard is on the path you must travel is just a time sink. There was no good reason not to allow the Serpent Hunter for that fight. This run lost its luster the moment that happened and it was kind of a fun run before that.
And f Zoodle and the Randomania crew. No one's video was fun to watch!

Rather than just restricting somber weapons, I think they need to implement a mod that rebalances weapons in general if they want to keep things fair. Restricting like 1/3 of the weapons in the game is kinda boring / makes for less interesting matches.
Eh, it makes them try to find something different and causes them to explore more. Rather than just all get a somber since its quicker to max it.
There are a lot of good non-somber weapons that do amazing. Somber is just the choice of most speedrunners as you only need 9 stones vs 24 so it automatically makes it faster to get, not necessarily stronger if you max it.
Its also because they so lean into somber weapons they aren't as knowledgeable about what is good so they default to easy ways like the +8 halberd which has a very low damage for how slow it is.
@@Zeratultheking okay, but there are ways around this without just saying "okay no somber weapons". How about a mod that makes all weapons have +25 and take normal stones? Again, you'd have to rebalance weapons but it's more interesting than just blanket restrictions.
This seed was complete horsecrap. Actual trolling from the organizers. I would never work with them again after a stunt like this at the runners' expense.

This was trolling on the organizers' part and turned what should've been a dramatic finale to the randomania runs into a boring slog. I had a bad feeling about the format before and I'm sad that my suspicions it was built this way to be as troll as possible while appearing okay was confirmed.
i hope what i’m seeing as a near-unanimously very negative reception from both runners and viewers to the “le epic troll” from the organizers at least encourages them to never do something like that with the rules/seed again
like it kinda just reached a point where it looked like NOBODY was having fun anymore and i feel like that’s just not even good content

This woud hahve been fun if Zoodle only chose one of either no somer weapons or the rykard seed. Both made it boring though.
You know aggy when u get grabbed like when the runebear grabbed u if u spam buttons u can break out of the grab early and take less damage it works with almost all grabs

@@ajs675 I think it would have if they didn't have RYKARD as the second phase of the FIRE GIANT fight and still stood on their no Somber weapons. It kills the run when the streamer is actively pissed.
@@meteorburst4646 - Yeah, it's way more interesting when everyone uses the same *one* weapon. Because Zoodle never checked if the one OP non-somber was in the shop when he chose this seed.
If Zoodle didn't want to see those handful of over-used sombers, then he should have just banned using them specifically.
You can't just restrict an elde nring challenge youtuber's access to somber weapons like that you need to do it more gradually like a seal that is prepared for release into the wild.

Am I the only one that thinks that for fortisaxx fight made the run infinitely more interesting? Like yeah it's annoying to not use SH but it added a real challenge for a group of extremely skilled elden ring players. 10/10 perfect level of torture on zoodle's part.
The fight lasted like 20 minutes with at least one reset for every one of the runners, what a boring slog

@@MollyFC they could make an exception because if you don't have bleed/frost+fire weapons you are really fucked, even poison wouldn't really make a difference without bleed/frost

They ruin these competitions by adding stupid rules. Why no sombre when luck and the player exploring determines if they win or not? They did the same thing in bingo brawlers by randomising weapons just to even the playing field but that’s really stupid. It’s like limiting the best teams in sport by asking them not to play their best players against weaker teams to make it fair lol. Just have them play the game with no restrictions ffs
In theory I can see why it’s an okay rule. Somber does makes things easy and this was the finals of a mode made to make contestants suffer for content. In practice though, on top of this F tier seed, it made all 4 runs unfun. I wanted to have fun and laugh but the constant struggle for almost 3 hours was extremely disheartening for the viewer, I can’t even imagine for the players. RIP Cata
@@TheInez see, like just make players play normally. This is even understandable because it’s a randomiser but it more than pissed me off when they added the weapon randomiser to the bingo brawlers, lost all interest. In the first BB, I liked seeing upsets, skilled players like Chris, aggy and ainrun losing to less skilled players made it fun, unlike in BB2 where every loss was basically oh this person found a good weapon and the other person didn’t lmao. Like just allow the damned players play without extra stupid rules

I think is because he got frustated out of everyone using stormhawk axe ( which, tbh, i hate this weapon too, is just unoriginal and is just the definitive L2 mindless spam ) and the draconic halberd
But yeah, baning somber weapons mid way through an event is just really arbritary, and rykard without serpent Hunter is a snoozfest ( unless you have something really specific like peast threats or spiral shard )
And, if you are tired of those weapons ( which honestly, i get a bit tired to see the same few weapons all the time ) ban those, and before the event, not midway through

@@jajasking9652 It didn't really feel like Zoodle didn't want somber weapons because he's frustrated with them, he handpicked a fucked up seed that probably would've been entertaining enough on it's own and then banned somber weapons just to get reactions out of the streamers.
If anything, banning somber weapons made this seed a lot less entertaining imo

He did it to troll them. Which wouldn't have been particularly funny even if it just made some fights comically harder. Instead it just made the fight at the finale of the tournament take 10x as long for no reason.
