I think you can say this about the entire "Heavy 4" - U.S.A. - U.K.'s former colony. Russia - was once, such a formidable empire that the British hated. China - lost all its glory when the British demanded them to open trade relations. India - along with China provide 1/4th of the world GDP and was reduced to nothing when the British left. Now, they are all doing way better than U.K. today.

The British Empire wanted to make domains into Asia (China, India, & Persia at the time); but the Russian Empire had the same plans as the wanted a freshwater port during the 1800's. Hence, they became bitter enemies. India was literally the crown jewel colony of the British Empire and the whole sub-continent was ruined from 200 years of foreign rule from the 1700's. The both are far powerful in military and as for economy India is doing extremely well while Russia is somehow surviving with all trouble from the world.
