Sweden and Finland get more sunlight due to the specific heat capacity of land compared to water. Long story short, continental air masses tend to descend in winter, giving clear skies, whereas maritime climates are warmer and cloudier.
Edit: due to their proximity to Asia/Russia. This is why easterly winds in the winter often bring the coldest weather to the Uk.

England wasn't under Roman rule during the events of the Gospel/Jesus' life, but the New Testament covers many decades after the crucifixion and was mostly written even later than that.

Edit: I don’t think it(panthers) was on the list but here’s some information anyways.

I love the word spelk. For me it's a splinter that's tiny enough to get caught under your skin, or light enough when on fire to rise up from an open fire and fly up the chimney.
Splinter seems to be a Dutch loanword but spelk goes back to Old English. It means a little "spill" - which is a thin stick used to carry a flame from one place or another, typically from the open fire to a pipe or cigarette when I was a kid in the 60s. You used to be able to by spills in boxes from tobacconists, and most people with an open fire had a box on their mantlepiece.
