Hey Jack, just for a bit of context on the Argentina Falkland Islands situation, in 2013 a vote was held there, regarding whether they wanted to remain british, or become Argentinian, 99,80% voted to stay a part of the UK, whilst 3 people voted to join Argentina. The Falkland Islands have no actual connection to Argentina, at least none that make sense. (This is coming from someone who strongly opposes colonialisation)
Yeah, I was going to comment something similar - the Falklanders are mostly British ethnically and have lived there for generations. There's no connection to Argentina, they're just close. The islands were uninhabited until Europeans settled there (they were co-inhabited by British, French, and Spanish people at various points). The Falklands want to be British and I think that should be respected; that's why the war happened. I am also not someone who agrees with colonisation. This isn't really in the same category, though, imo. The Falklands were uninhabited and didn't belong to anyone prior to Europeans ca. 18th century. Over time, Britain claimed it as other countries renounced their claims to different parts of the islands. If they ever want to join Argentina, I think they should be allowed to, but they don't want to and have no real link to them. Just like if NI ever wants to join the rest of Ireland, I think they should be allowed to, but I don't think they'll be voting yes in this decade at least as they've somewhat built up their own identity separate to Ireland. Not to say there aren't supporters, just that I think a referendum would be unlikely to pass (I have family in NI, I'm not just speaking out of my arse).
@@bettinaceciliasilveira5773 and? There's nothing beyond that. The UK is far away but, again, most of the people want to remain British and I believe they should be allowed to decide for themselves and not just given away against their will because Argentina is closer. No, yeah, you are completely right. The thing that happened was that during the argentine dictature, argentine leaders sent troops to the islands in order to make the argentine people mad because of other things that the government. It is still used to this day as a bit of propaganda, and most argentines claim that the Falkland Islands are part of Argentina.
