    My husband and I met you at Fairfield Lake State Park (sigh) some time ago. We were in a 1996 van, having camped in it for a decade and a half. Seeking a replacement for our aging home on wheels, we reviewed our needs and researched many options--including Casitas, which were very high on our list of possibles. Ultimately, we came full circle, and just purchased a new van! It's a conversion van, and since I appear to have lost an inch or so in height, I can actually stand in it!
    Although I personally had to move away from the concept of a full-on build, I am very excited for you. The no-build approach has a lot going for it, since it can evolve at the pace that is right for you and be reconfigured with relative ease. I know you have come experience doing that already. It is essentially what I will be doing (again) in the conversion.

      Yes I remember y’all! You gave me a tour :-) haha about being able to stand up in your new van! I absolutely loved my Casita but I think I’ll love the freedom of just getting in and going. Maybe we will meet up on the road again out there someday and can trade conversion tips :-). How fun that you messaged, I enjoyed meeting y’all and glad you’re still out there :-)

    Class Bs for one person that wants to be on the move is a great option. But very expensive. A no build build van will work too if you are a minimalist and let you figure out what you want. You go! Good luck

    I have been researching the same thing, ever since Robin from Creativity RV posted a video about Wayfarer Vans in CO Springs. You should check them out. Really affordable, modular, easy build design. I plan to go that route when it's time to replace my truck. You have taken excellent care of Gidget. She should sell fast and you will be on your way to Vanlife. Good luck and safe travels. See ya down the road!

    The range of emotions experienced relative to switching from one home on wheels to another has been a little surprising. Even though we're thrilled about the new, it doesn't feel like "home". The "old van" apparently embodies much more than I realized.
    One unexpected issue has been insurance. Even though I considered myself well informed about the ins and outs of insurance for vans (self-built and otherwise), I was caught off guard. Ours is an upfitted passenger van (like the old one), but is on a somewhat heavier chassis and just above the weight capacity the insurer (USSA) would cover. I spent over three hours with them and two of their affiliates (Progressive being one) before getting basic coverage approved.
    Have fun envisioning the road ahead and creating your transition!

    In my opinion a shell is the best way to go. RV systems constantly break, so no systems built in mean easy to fix. I currently camp in a Mini Van, but, one day I hope to have Cargo Van for my camping. I am not full time so for now, all I can afford is the Mini Van as it is also my car. I do not want to drive a Cargo Van when living in everyday life. Best of luck to you. I will be watching no matter your vehicle as I am in Texas and I love that you do adventures in places I can go.

    Just went hunting for a new upload from you yesterday.
    I’ve looked for a small travel trailer for 3 years, don’t really care what it looks like inside, but the few I’ve found that do have a clear title, have never materialized bc of my erratic schedule. So, I’ve concluded that I will wait on a regular van. All my mechanic friends say that the pro max start giving problems around the 60k mark… which I cannot afford one with less mileage. I’ve noticed that the class Cs & Bs are starting to go down in price, however, there’s still those who gave way too much to begin with, wanting more than the dealerships. Whatever drops in my lap first, I just know that I wouldn’t have a Ram, unless someone else paid for the maintenance.

    • @TinyTexanAdventures
      @TinyTexanAdventures  7 месяцев назад

      I hope your perfect van drops in your lap soon!!! Sounds like you’ve waited a long time for it. I’m choosing the Promaster because it’s the widest of the cargo vans and the bed orientation side to side is important to me so I can utilize more interior space. I know that’s not necessarily important to other people. You are definitely right about the costs at least starting to trend downwards a bit, hope that puts your dream closer :-)
