  • Hi Friends!
As we remember those who died in service, I am sharing this US Flag Code that I received in a DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) bag when I attended my first meeting. It's very interesting and I learned a lot!
If anything, it will be a relaxing video. And perhaps there will be something of interest in it for you as well!
Let me know YOUR county, an emoji of your flag, and a thumbs up or heart!
    In remembrance...
    Hugs from me to you!
    Very warmly,
    Jeannie

My grandparents lived on the Isle of Man for over 20 years. Sadly, my grandma passed about 17 years ago, but my grandad still lives in Douglas. We used to take the Ben-My-Chree from Heysham to the island every Summer for a week, and would visit Peel and Port Erin beach. This comment brought me back to that.

Hello from Manchester England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Jeannie! I love this video, so important to celebrate our diversity. A taxi driver once imparted some wisdom to me which I’ve never forgotten. He said in his 40 years picking up many people every day from all walks of life he has learned that 98% of people in life are inherently good at heart, and he always tries to make sure his customers are smiling by the end of their journey even if they appear angry when they get in his cab!
I’ve never forgotten this and it made me realise the powerful impact just spending a few minutes with a stranger can have on the world. I’m very fortunate to have travelled to many places in the world 🇺🇸 🇨🇦 🇫🇷 🇪🇸 🇵🇹 🇩🇪 🇬🇷 🇨🇿 🇮🇹 🇨🇺 🇲🇽 🇮🇸 🇳🇱 🇧🇪 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 🇮🇪 and I can honestly say everyone I’ve met has been so kind, I’ve seen real beauty in humanity. Even if we don’t speak the same language, the non verbal language is even more powerful and it’s rare we don’t understand someone if we are truly paying attention ❤ love to you Jeannie xxxxx

From things you've said on other videos, I think you are similar in age to me. When I was born, Harold Macmillan was UK prime minister, whilst America was soon to have US President, John F Kennedy. A couple of years ago, I gave my grandparents each a book called something like “the story of me”! It’s a journal with prompts to write stories from different parts of your life from birth on! They love to sit down together and pic a page to fill out. They’ve even added extra notes and pictures and other little details. It’s been such a special thing that they get to do together and to chat with us about the stories they are writing and then we get a written documentation of them all!! I love to know all that I can about their stories.

I attended a flag placing on graves today of service members that indicated the deceased served in the military branches on their plot. It was beautiful to see the Boy and Girl Scouts, young Cadets placing the American Flag on the graves of those who served, what values they were being taught! They'd say the name of the service man or woman and say "Thank you for your service." So beautiful! I have no shame in saying I don't have to neither like nor embrace any particular group, as MLK, Jr., said, only the content of one's character!

Yeah… being proud of Germany or of being a German is a little tricky…
To show the German flag is mostly during soccer championships etc.
There are some people who use the German flag, sometimes even flags from times before 1945, to show their racist and far right minds. We have some flags which are not allowed to use because of the history we have.
A lot of german people don’t understand the whole „being proud of your country or flag“ thing. There are much deeper thoughts and philosophies behind all of this but it would be too much to write here.
I am sorry that I can’t describe it better because of my missing English skills… 😢
Oh and yeah… all of the public buildings show the flag of the country and the federal state and often the European flag. In case of special events (CSD, proud month) there is also a rainbow flag 🏳️‍🌈

There is nothing wrong with being proud of Germany. 🇩🇪 Nazis, the people, have a bad history. And many counties do have ugly histories. But I admire Germany for the education that is mandatory about their history. They don’t try to erase it and pretend it never happened.
By the way, I am finding a couple of very strong German lines in my genealogy!

I think people burning/destroying a flag is just them expressing their views in the same way you express yours by displaying it or "promoting" it. Promoting isnt the right word but I think that makes sense🤣.

Burning or destroying your country's flag in pursuit to raise up another country, or just simply because you hate your own country, is OK? That's not expressing an opinion, that's promoting violence. It's certainly happening a lot in America.
With all due respect to youe opinion, if one doesn't like America, then why don't they leave? Because in a lot of countries, if you were to burn their flag you would go to jail. Just an example of the privileges we have here.

    • @PurpleNoir

I, and many others, feel quite opposed to that kind of disrespect. I think many of us have forgotten what it took, the sacrifice of others, to be a free country…people who died for the values of our flag.
BUT I defend to the death your right to believe that.

    • @crystalchandelier22
      @crystalchandelier22 3 месяца назад +4

@oliviamizzi33 I'm not American. But it's not as simple as "just leave" when your family and friends live in that country. Yes, burning or destroying a flag is completely fine.
Respect in all senses is earned, not automatic. I'd struggle to be proud of a country that is STILL debating the rights and treatment of certain groups of people.

@JeannieBASMR I like hearing your perspective, I think a lot of it comes down to a difference in opinion of what a flag represents.
And the same here. Gotta defend freedom of speech from all sides💗

Hi Jeannie. I'm from Aotearoa (New Zealand). A beautiful country with extraordinary scenery and a rich culture of Māori people, and a melting pot of many other ethnicities. I was born in NZ to my Welsh dad and my Cockney mum. I absolutely love listening to your "blah blah blah". I also started watching TIR after you recommended it. It's so interesting. The comments though...oi!

Yes! I love that channel but the comments break my heart. They aren’t a society like ours but are being judged as if they should know what we know. I feel terrible.

I am not in the DAR, but my Mom's Dad's side of the Family came over from England in the Mayflower from 1740 and I was told that I could be part of the DAR. However, I do not know if I would be eligible because my Late Dad's Side of the Family is from Bauska, Latvia and my Late Dad came to America in 1939. I do not know if both parents have to have links to the Revolution and the early settlers🤔🤔?? My Late Dad was very patriotic and was proud and grateful to be an American!! My Late Great Uncle Louis sponsored and paid for my Late Dad and my Later Grandfather to come to America, which both became American Citizens!! My Late Dad was blind in one eye so after he became an American Citizen, he joined the California National Guard, but was only allowed to have limited duty because he was blind in one eye. My Late Dad thought a lot of Americans took their freedoms for granted. My Late Dad was Jewish and he was the oldest child, so he came to America with my Late Grandfather to raise money to bring over my Late Grandma and my Late Uncle Cemech age 14 and my Late Uncle Aaron age 5 and one half to six, but they could not raise money in time and my Late Grandma age 42, my Late Uncle Cemech age 14, and my Late Unlce Aaron age 5 and one half to 6 years old were all shot execution style by the S.S. Nazis. So, my Late Dad instilled in me how important it is to protect Democracy. And I thank you for being so kind and not making people feel bad for having another opinion. As a Democrat I will quote Ronald Reagan who said to Gorbachev, " If there was an alien race how quickly we would come together to resolve our differences.... and realize we are all God's children, we are all human beings". Thank you for letting me express all this on Memorial Day Weekend.

@@JeannieBASMR It’s a lot of fun 😊 I’m a member in FL, joined in December 2015ish? It was the tail end of the DAR’s 125th birthday. Joined as a Junior member (under 36) and it’s been a lot of fun so far. State Conferences are a great way to learn. Members under 41 (in most states) can page at the conferences. You’ll see them running around and helping everything run smoothly. Some states don’t have an age limit 😊
Found my first patriot from a fluke. My mom got tired trying to find stuff on her Irish family, and decided to do my dad’s. On the 1910 census my mom found his maternal grandmother at 2. But there was a woman listed the grandmother of the head on household. Turns out, her father was the patriot, his daughter having been born when he was 70 or so. So she’s considered a “Real Daughter” in the DAR, since she was a member who was the child of a patriot 😊 fascinating stuff
