Produced by D'Angelo before he dropped Brown Sugar ... that's him singing at the very end, after the intro of "Come on, D, and sing the song, yea."
JASON’s LYRIC !!!
Amazing and inspirational song. Listen to those lyrics.
Love your reaction!
This is another one I had not heard in many years. From one of my favorite movies, Jason’s Lyric. I had this on cassette single back in the day.
A very inspirational reaction 🙏🏾✊🏾🥷🏾💪🏾👼🏾! U Will Know was released as the lead single from the 1994 film: Jason's Lyric, movie soundtrack. It was written by D'Angelo and Luther Archer. It was produced by Brian McKnight, D'Angelo and Bob Power. The song reached #5 on the Rap chart, #11 on the R&B chart and #28 on the Hot 100. A remix song version was produced called: U Will Know (C.J. Mackintosh R & B Lyric), and it sampled: Ain't No Fun by Snoop Dogg ft Nate Dogg, Kurupt and Warren G (1993). The music video was directed by Troy Smith and featured all the people involved with the project. The film: Jason's Lyric, starred: Allen Payne, Bokeem Woodbine, Suzzanne Douglas, Eddie Griffin, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Lisa Nicole Carson, Forrest Whitaker and Treach.
The song is considered a classic in R&B and Hip-Hop circles. Its powerful message of black unity and respect is still relevant today. The song inspired many people to unite and work towards making the world a better place. It is also the only song recorded by Black Men United, which makes its impact even more profound. Proceeds from the record were donated to charities and to promote the message of peace.
The song speaks to the importance of black unity, love and respect. The song is shedding light on the rapid deaths of young African-American males due to Black-on-Black crime. It starts with the lines: “Get here and listen”, reminding everyone of the importance of being present and attentive to the message the song is conveying. The chorus of the song is an assertion of power, as the lyrics state: “You will know the truth and it will set you free”. The song advocates for self-love and respect, as well as understanding the importance of community and uplifting each other. The line: “You need love and respect to succeed”, encapsulates the message of the song.

Fun Fact 🕵🏾♂: D'Angelo: "That song (U Will Know) really is what got me my deal [with EMI]", he revealed during a lecture, titled: "A Conversation With D'Angelo", at Brooklyn Museum on May 21, 2014. "It was on my first demo. Jocelyn (Cooper, former president of Midnight Music) shopped it. I think that was the one. It was the one".
