I’m still rocking my m1 ipad pro 12.9 with MKB (which is 99% of time on) since release and I absolutely love it. I had both MacBook Pro 14 and 16 and m1 air and I returned them all. Photo editing feels wayyy better on iPad (Lightroom), animations are much better on iPad too, it feels so good to navigate. Web browsing and media consumption is also better with touch. Yesterday I needed to edit Word document, then sign it. I did it on iPad with Pencil while on MB I would need to print it out and scan it lol.
It honestly still surprises me just how well my M1 MacBook Pro from 2020 is still holding up. The battery life is still great, I can multitask like crazy with no slowdown, and the TouchBar is still a cool party trick. I was planning to upgrade when M3 Max came out but to be honest I think this machine will last for another 3-4 years before I even begin to notice any slowing down. I just just it had ProMotion
I bought an M1 Max Mac Studio in August 2023, and I'm extremely happy with it. I had three options: an M1 Max Mac Studio, an M2 Max Mac Studio or an M2 Pro Mac Mini. All three Macs are overkill for my needs as a writer and editor, but I chose the M1 Max Mac Studio because it was the best value of the three: the M1 Max has a significantly more powerful GPU than the M2 Pro (and I do game a lot on my Macs), MyMac in Melbourne had the M1 Max Mac Studio for a very nice 10% discount, and two more CPU cores and six more GPU cores in the M2 Max (and the same RAM and SSD) wasn't really worth another $500 to me.
I plan to buy a certified refurbished M2 Pro 14” (unbinned M2 Pro, 16gb ram, 1tb ssd) at the end of next year to finally partially switch away from windows to a Mac (I have a gaming PC as well)
do you think the new 15" MBA is worth getting? i like my 14" m1 mbp, im just irked because i dont recall apple ever slashing prices on their products this quickly. i also havent been paying attention to what apples been scheming ever since i got my mbp, so i havent dug into the specs of the apples new offerings as much as i normally would. i was initially pretty annoyed when i saw it started at $1600ish... but correct me if im wrong, but it seems like the new lineup is basically the same as what they gave us when m1 mbps came out. the pro still starts at 2000. the lower priced models are basically the equivalent of the binned m1 mbp that they used to sell. i think. if im wrong, please correct me. i grow tired of keeping tabs on apple.
My parents badly need a new iMac. Their 2013 iMac died and they are hardcore desktop people (they don’t really like laptops as a primary computer) and are also non techies so we don’t really want to go the Mac mini + display route. All in ones are the sinplest and most straightforward computers for them. But I told them we have to wait til they update the iMac with the M2 chip. They’re using my old 2015 MacBook Pro right now and getting by, but that laptop is definitely a little long in the tooth although it is still running really well. Apple please hurry up and give us the iMac M2!
I’m rocking a 2015 5K iMac 27 inch. I love it, but I need an upgrade. Since it is getting slow. I want an all in one iMac but I don’t want to downgrade to a 24 inch. I know there are rumors that Apple will bring back the 27 inch iMac or possibly even 30 inches or 32. I know you can buy the Studio Display but buying a Studio Display with a Mac mini, keyboard and mouse can easily cost you thousands of dollars. I hope they bring it back 🙏
When WWDC happened, BestBuy had a deal on base model m1 macbook airs for $800 new. I bought a used m1 macbook air for $723. Fantastic deal. imo unless you're looking for a used m1 mac mini, a used m1 macbook air is the best price to performance machine that runs MacOS. And IMO, m1 is going to be fast and be supported for at least 5 years, so most people should go this route unless you need a mac studio. I wouldn't even entertain any other options really. Even for software engineering, m1 is enough.
Today's prices at MicroCenter: 13.3" M1 MBA is $799. M2 MBA is $949. M2 MBP is $1099. 15" M2 MBA is $1199 and 14" M1MBP Refurb with 16GB RAM and 512 GB SSD is $1399.
if your a heavy user id get a 16gb ram m1 macbook air. reviewers always say the heat is a issue fr m2. and i do think its overblown for normal people. but on my m1 ipad pro it does get warm and lags cuz i use it hard. so ill admit i was paranoid what happen to a m2 macbook air. if your similar to me def consider m1 still as the differences are neglible and ya can get a good deal. spent bout 1350 for a refurb direct from apple non binned m1 chip 16 gb ram 1 tb. so only like 200ish i think last i cheked more then the base m2 for like way more storage and ram. def something to consider if ya are worried about heat or are budget concious but want a alot and dont care bout fast charging or a marginal chip improvement in m2. and dont care bout the other small upgrades
It’s so crazy how the view of the desktop lineup has completely flipped in a few short years. I worked at Apple retail back in the intel days and whenever a customer wanted to buy a desktop it was an iMac, all day everyday. Very rarely did we sell a Mac mini, and we never ever sold a Mac Pro lol. But now with Apple’s perfect spectrum of value with power, performance and price, with options along the entire thing, the Mac mini and Mac Studio is the go to choice for desktop. With the iMac off to the side like it’s this weird “wrong” choice. Just crazy how things have changed. I’m hoping Apple gives the iMac lineup some love with a bigger option and pro chips etc. I’m holding out hope that they will with the M3 lineup so that way there’s a good option for everyone.
I like the matching colours and the all-in-one form factor, but the downside is the repairability. Also, it's just weird to buy an M1 iMac while there are M2's and there is M3 around the corner. And finally, 24' is a bit small when people are used to up to 40" monitors and 55", 65" and bigger TV's.
I have an iMac 21 and m1 air and I really like both of them. Ive gotten used to the white bezels and the screen is great *shrugs* at least much better than most general displays out there.

I bet the only reason that Apple still sells the 13” pro is because a lot of people buy it due to ignorance. I can really easily see a scenario about someone that’s not too familiar with computers wanting something for work, going to a store, noticing a very reasonably priced “Pro” model and buying it thinking it’s gonna be better than the air for their “pro” work of e-mails and excel. I mean for someone not knowing their stuff it would make total sense that a MacBook Pro would be a lot better than a MacBook Air. Plus I bet if they have friends into tech, they will have socially listened about how good the MacBook Pro’s are, without specifying about the 13” vs 14” & 16”.
Good advice drew! I wanted an m2 MacBook Air with 16gb ram and 512 storage and it got out of my budget. It was a better option and better value for the money to buy a refurbished 14 inch MacBook Pro! I love it so far!
Would love if you'd do an alternative video for those of us who do not have access to Apple Refurbished, Amazon or eBay in our country. We basically have to buy new - what would you recommend then?
Considering I need 32GB+ of memory and 2TB of storage, MacBook Pro (16) or Mac Studio is the way to go. Interesting that, for the same configuration (M2 Max 30gpu), the MBP costs 1300$ more! I mean, sure, the display & the portability… but the ports & cooling system… What I mean is that the MBP is overpriced, not that the MS is underpriced 😂 Thanks for the video!
another right use case for the M2 Pro/Max is when your workflow needs a ton of GPU power. Thanks to the proper scaling of the GPU, M2 Pro can easily beats M1 Max and M2 Max/Ultra can be a class of its own.
M2 MacBook Pro...I have it, I am not paying for it by the way, it's just a Christmas present we're paying monthly for, however for what I do with it, I love the battery life on it and the screen is alright, however it's not ideal for anything if I were to push it a bit
Picture this deal for the 15-inch MacBook Air. The back to school deals are starting soon. What if I get a student for me to buy the 15-inch MacBook Air $1,500 new with the student discount and the $100 Apple Gift Card comes with it? Would you still recommend it? This comes with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, and a gift card. or get the 14-inch MacBook Pro?
In the UK, the M2 Pro Mac Mini actually works out more expensive than the equivalent spec M2 Pro Mac Studio. So unless you are really tight for space, get the Studio.
@@ClydeyP Sorry you are right. Mac Mini with non-binned 12-core M2 Pro, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD, 10GB Eithernet - £2799 Mac Studio with binned 12-core M2 Max, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD (10GB Ethernet is the only option) - £2699. If you don't care about the 10GB Ethernet, perhaps because you have no other 10GB devices and it will run at 1GB anyway, you can save £100 on the Mini and pay the same price as the Studio. At a minimum all ethernet ports should be 2.5GB. Multigig internet service and network switches are useless if your fire breathing Mac Studio is only transferring at a gig.
The vast majority doesn't use a home server or internet connection that can handle 1 Gb, if the even use an ethernet cable at all. The 1% rest of us can simply buy a USB-C to 1 Gb ethernet adapter for less than €20 / $20 so this is hardly an obstacle.
