Sold everything and put in the stock market last year to make the move. After 1-year Got tired of hot taxis, beggars and basura in Cebu and moved to BGC couple months ago. We love it!!!!! Having said that we are paying more than double what you are for our 60sm condo at uptown PS2. Still a good deal and we love the luxury and amazing views. The food and walk ability is the best part. Not to mention the reliable high speed internet and power. Good times :)

I just retired at 47 and moved from California to Mindanao. It's way cheaper here than California. BGC is a great time, I just like the green more than city living, besides I like going fishing with my filipino friends on the weekends too much.

Used to live in Trump tower Makati, pay $1600 on the beach in Thailand now, 116 sm super luxury maintained building. Thing about Philippines is many of the condos are pig and lipstick. They look great when you first start living there and then you notice the cracks in the quality that’s why there’s so many condos available in Makati and BGC.

I went to Manila with friends. I don’t know if I made it to BGC? Those roof tops seem nice’. However I never saw any of these nicer posher spots… The areas I was in in both Manila and Cebu were a bit rough… I believe in Manila is SUPER IMPORTANT precisely where You are. This BGC area!
Sure BGC is great but it is a fantasy world compared to the rest of the Philippines. Just step out that BGC bubble and see how fast the country will wear you down into a little nub of yourself. The US has 1000 or more places nicer than BGC but one just has to work hard to live in one. I will be spending the month of January in BGC but will be happy to return to my little paradise in the US.
Can you name one of these places in the US that is nicer than BGC. A place where within a 15 minute walking distance you can find about 100 fine restaurants to choose from?

As for me, I’ve travelled quite a bit, mostly Mindanao so I know what the Philippines is really like and it makes you question going to BGC at all. The rest of the Philippines is more beautiful, better culture, better traditions, better families, better women, better food, etc. I guess you can say there’s two different types of foreigners that go here. One type brings his western influences and the other drops them.
When I see these type of videos, they’re really nice. But the majority of people watching these videos are not able to move abroad. Shamming people for choosing to stay at a job in the USA and not giving it up, in the hopes of finding something online, or a job abroad doesn’t make sense. Not possible for probably 90% of those watching. I watched these inspirational videos vigorously 3 years before retiring, now I’m living abroad 4 years later. People don’t know who’s being paid to advertise locations, if they are actually being paid by a company, and that’s the reason they’re there.

Add another $100-$200 usd/month for electric/internet. BGC is like living in a very small US city, but it's surrounded by very, very poor ramshackles. Crime spills in from those poor areas as they target the wealthy so a very secure building is necessary along with being cautious late at night.
Huh? It looks like you don’t know much about BGC. We live in BGC in a 75 sqm condo. We have lived here since 2007. There are many condos size of ours and many that are even bigger. The ones being rented out are usually small. These are the ones that easy to rent. Most of the bigger ones are nit rented but lived in by owners.
I recently spent a year in the Philippines, living off my savings from travel nursing, with BGC as my home base. I lived in major cities in the U.S. and honestly, there’s no place I’d rather be than BGC.

Very entertaining video - I was in BGC and other places in the Phils over the summer and it is a true paradise. But my only helpful comment is although it is cheaper there than many other countries in the world, it does take money to live there - some sort of steady income. If you don’t have money, it will be a real challenge to live there…obvious statement I know. I have many friends and family there and I love this country and its people. Filipinos are the friendliest people on earth. Stay well and happy.

But my only helpful comment is although it is cheaper there than many other countries in the world, it does take money to live there - some sort of steady income. If you don’t have money, it will be a real challenge to live there…obvious statement I know. I have many friends and family there and I love this country and its people. Filipinos are the friendliest people on earth. Stay well and happy.
