i think breaking that string made his solo unique, he approached it from a different angle, way better and soulful than if he had 6. Thx Sean, never get tired of listening to you. RIP
Three guitar players have given me the chills when I heard them for the first time- SRV, Sean, and Jason Becker. This might be the best live performance of all time. RIP. Legend.
I saw this young man at a blues festival 8mths before his death. There are no words to describe his performance. It was just incredible! He was sweating and playing the blues like he had just learned to play guitar that day! Very passionate! Afterwards, I bought his shirt for him to autograph. They told me he had already gone into his trailer. 5 minutes later out he came, marker in hand, smiling autographed the shirt and posed for 2 pics for me and friend. Oh happy day! RIP Sean We love you!
I listened to Sean then I listened to Clapton rendition (the same Double Trouble blues), then again Sean, and you know, for me Sean is much better - more soul, more feeling, more heart. Hats off.
I agree. Sean is better than Clapton. Clapton is good but not as good as Sean and many other American blues players. They put the energy in feelings instead of distortion. RIP Sean ❤
Great mother of God ,Lord have mercy Sean.I keep comin back and watchin you do this song brother. It was my pleasure to see you just once but what a performer you were and still are playin with all the greats up yonder.I choke up every time I hear this. R.I.P. miss ya brother.
when you play, and when it comes from the soul- you go somewhere else. it's great to watch him go there, and take us with him. what a talent. what a shame he's not here any longer.
Probably 8 people in the audience but he plays like his life depended on it. I also came to know him after he passed. What a loss. For sure one of the "goosebump" players.
There are no words for this performance...the ultimate gut wrenching turmoil low-down blues is what we have here brothers and sisters!!! And Sean Costello the master..I will never forget his kindness when I met him...RIP Mr. Costello
The skill to adapt and keep the sound after breaking the string. Messi on the pitch, Brady 4th quarter super bowl drive. I came across this performance 13 years ago. RIP Mr Costello, truly amazing.
Wow! I had never heard of this guy until today when Joe Bonamassa talked about him on his 'Only the Good Die Young' episode of The Pickup'. He had the goods, alright. I'll be checking out more of this stuff. Better late than never. Thanks, Joe B!
I just discovered Sean. Man, I'm at a loss for words. I want to laugh and cry. Rejoice and mourn. I feel like my life has changed due to finding these videos. Thanks Sean. Your candle burned out far too soon.
I'm back to youtube again to watch him play. I didn't discover him until about a year after he passed. Heatrbreak!! He seemed like a beautiful person with a deep soul. R.I.P. Sean Costello. Your music lives on and it resonates with us.
I knew Sean personally and when he died it was a huge blow to the Atlanta GA Blues Scene. He will be forever remembered and his music lives on. Love u Sean!!!!!
just started watching him tonight ....Im mad at everyone I know or have met in life for not telling me about him......this is what i need in my life....
Absolutely every day for the past 5 months i go to sleep with this video on my phone just beside me and i still cant get enough of it, no other guitarist has got to me like sean does, i understand his music and what he wants to say through every single note, its just perfect. Makes ne sad to think he is not around. Peace bros
Absolute genius, without doubt the best young blues/soul/rock guitar player and singer of his generation, I had the privalage of seeing him perform three times..........a sad loss
first time i saw him was at darwins. the place was so packed, Kay put me behind the bar so i could see the show. when they played simple twist of fate, that was about the best thing i ever saw live.
sad that I am finding out about this guy now! he was a great one indeed.....huge loss! I will be sampling his chops when I get home from work...Im already influenced by his sound....WOW!
We will always love you Sean. And thank you for posting Anthony. Sounds like about 12 people there that night, how I would love to have been there. Again, thanks for the vids. I have watched them several times.
That opening lick - it's just so simultaneously subtle and overpowering, I can't really describe it any other way...make you smile, make you cry, and everything else in between.. RIP Sean.
Pure soul. Great talent. Awesome Guitar. Skillz. What happened to him, out of curiosity. I visited the website. He will be missed by a lot of great friends and fans. Wish I knew about him sooner, would have gone to see him.
also a performer, breaking a string takes me out of the performance completely, causes me to lose all focus. this just shows Sean's passion for what this song meant to him... it's like he relived every song he wrote, every time he performed them. and it's so cool to me that you knew him and got to experience his greatness. congrats! Sean's music surely has the power to change lives.
Its a 53 or 54 Les Paul a real deal one ...I actually played this guitar before he got it ...my buddy Frankie sold it to him !!!...Notice the wraparound only ...some 55's had the wraparound as did very few 56's then the tuneamatic came in to play then !!!
@anthonypepitoneVideo Oh yes in a very good way i been watching his videos for the last hour or so very good work... sad to know that he passed the way he did so young
Sean passed away from an accidental drug overdose in April of 2008. His drug use, some speculate, was the result of a long time battle with bi-polar disorder. Yes, he will truly be missed.

Top Tophams version with Jim McCarty also sublime.
Clapton never flamed like Sean.
I agree. Sean is better than Clapton. Clapton is good but not as good as Sean and many other American blues players.

RIP Sean ❤
not only could he play - the dude could sing - I love his voice
Čoveku nakon 4 takta pukne E1 žica, on to iskulira i odsvira bluz do kraja. Koji kralj!

Man, this guy was killer. Cut short before his prime & cut short before the world got to know how good he was.
Absolutely every day for the past 5 months i go to sleep with this video on my phone just beside me and i still cant get enough of it, no other guitarist has got to me like sean does, i understand his music and what he wants to say through every single note, its just perfect. Absolute genius, without doubt the best young blues/soul/rock guitar player and singer of his generation, I had the privalage of seeing him perform three times..........a sad loss

Well said! This is some of the best singing/playing I´ve heard. He realy means what he is singing/playing!
haha i just realized he played that entire song with only 5 strings. If you look at the very beginning you can see his high e hanging
He Breaks it like 3 notes in and you can hear him sigh loudly..He does more with 5 than most with all 6,IMO..
