Love how you went nerdy with the SoC and x86 talk. You also eased my mind that I can trust your judgement based on your explanation of use cases of where the M1 would outshine or tie the competition. Dami is definitely not a sheep. She knows her stuff; protect her at all cost.

My anecdote isn't M1 specific, but I just finished up my Architectural Technology program and one of my group mates' suddenly lost Revit 2022 functionality in the middle of our semester using an Intel MacBook. She missed out on about a week of Revit work while she diagnosed the issue. In the end we were able to get her to borrow a Windows laptop to complete our group project. After finding out about all the hoops she had to jump through just to get Revit working made a future M1 purchase consideration a hard pass until Autodesk puts out an app with dedicated support.

I always stick by the golden rule of never skimping on a computer or a bed/mattress. Those two things will usually improve your quality of life if your work requires a computer. I've had the M1 Max 14" for a few months now and legit the only time I've heard a fan was from exporting color graded footage from DaVinci Resolve, lol it's crazy. I use mine every single day for creative work on many different platforms and have had no setbacks at all. Best investment I've made in a long time

Hi Demi! I'm studying to be an architect and I'm planning to buy M1 Max, I believe there will be Revit on M1 as well. But what really matters is that Apple has invested in Blender. I stand by the idea that every respectable architect should model projects not only in constructors, but also make stunning facades and scenes in 3D programs like Blender (Max, Cinema4d...)
Nice preparation, I was surprised at the volume at first

I use PC's and Mac's at home and work. I appreciate both, and have been working with both for about 25 years. It's interesting to see the changes throughout the years. What I have encountered while doing tech work, is that finding exactly what you want in any of these devices is nearly impossible. LOL! The 14 or 16 inch MBP is as close to perfect as Apple has gotten IMO. However, it seems like it doesn't matter. People buy Apple products even if they don't satisfy their needs, and they have to spend hundreds or thousands more dollars to make a complete package. Otherwise, it is very difficult to find a complete, well built product on the PC side. It took me forever to research and purchase laptops for my family. And there is something I don't like about all of them. I do appreciate Apple having a limited selection, with an OS built specifically for their products. That is Awesome! If I built a product based on Windows, i'd like to license it and design it specifically for my products, like Apple has done. Maybe then, the PC experience would be better, stable, consistent, and reliable. Sorry for the long message.

Thanks Dami, you’re the best! I’m a new architecture student currently in the market for a new laptop and I’ve really been wanting a Mac. I watched your video about the M1 air almost two years ago in high school while I was getting ready for college. I just hoped that by the time I started classes, Apple would have made a better machine and that software developers would have had time to optimize essential apps for masOS. I’m kind of bummed that software developers haven’t made many significant changes but I can see that it would be really smart to hold off on investing that much money into a tool that I won’t fully be able to take advantage of. It’s looking like I will have to opt for a windows based computer 😢. Still holding onto hope for that snazzy M2 and some software optimizations for the future though. The Apple ecosystem just works 😭. I’ve learned so much from your videos and you’re really like my big sis architect at this point. Thanks for what you do!

While I love Apple's new laptops, I know it doesn't run all 3D software natively. I personally use Aero Gigabyte 17 inch laptop I saved up, it has 2080 ti, 32 GB RAM, etc. I have to say I love the computer and it gets the job done with 3D rendering and the fans does its best to stay cool. I always update the NVIDIA studio to make sure 3D softwares runs well and I think it's a great laptop, plenty of ports, nice big screen, etc. Only downside is it is pretty heavy while commuting to college but I also have spent my last 2 years on Zoom so I've been good.

First time watching a review by Dami, I'm instantly in and I'm somewhat baffled about the very well presented content. You get the information, a user needs. You get a little background, to understand how this product compares to other products. You get a very clear view, under what circumstances Dami uses the computer, what tools and workloads she tested and how she felt about that.
The information is clear and very good to follow, Dami is not only talking but showing sketches and pictures to underline what she has to tell. Dami is very confident, very smooth and flawless in talking and explaining. She looks great, she has a little raspy voice and seems absolutely authentic to me. Or is it just a sound-brick your employer gave you?😆 As for me, I'll put those funds towards a modest new rig with a 3060. @@lunchmoneyog I agree all companies will always have vulnerabilities. Apple's data center is in China. It was built in collaboration with a Chinese state-owned company. Apple transferred the encryption keys to the same facility after saying they wouldn't. (Don't quote me; I believe Microsoft and Google are in the same boat.) If you don't follow Chinese business/politics, I assure you that this is terrible news. Of course, it's difficult to avoid when so many services are running through these companies. That's why I say to be careful of what you're sending out. The subject on China goes deep; I'll leave it to you to dig if you want. @@MassiveJetGrind I believe with the upcoming privacy and security laws in the EU will make Apple a better choice as the bill wants foreign companies like Apple, Google and MS host their servers for EU customers in the EU. This should be a whole lot better for privacy and security. I am hoping US does the same as well. I also cannot wait when Linux becomes viable on these M1 Macs as that would allow the machines to be up to date even after Apple stops proving security updates. Not signing into iCloud in macOS can help remain private on macOS. At least Apple does not force mandatory online logins like MS does with Windows 11 Home which is pretty scary.

The algorithm feeds me your videos from time to time, so I watch some of them. I was especially excited to see you reviewing the M1 Pro because I know you’re an Architect. I just saw your video and M1 and I was very excited cause I have searched RUclips high and low for an answer. I have an M1 Macbook Pro and was thinking about the M1 Pro MAX but I also found that you can’t install Windows on Parallel unless you’re installing Windows ARM and everything ARM. Microsoft is terrible at ARM. I bought a Surface Pro X and it was great in the 1% of useable situations, their emulation system isn’t as good as Apple silicon and as such just lags the experience on the M1.
So having tried Parallels which is also new at emulating Apple Silicone I ran into a roadblock and was unable to decipher whether or not the ID-10-t error lay with me.
So I was hoping your video would shed light on this use case scenario for Architects. With actual use case examples and everything else I wanted to learn about the M1 vs M1 MAX etc. The first half of your video was basically a repeat of everything else on RUclips and it’s not as great as other channels that have a dedicated staff working on the video and I think you use Storyblocks for content fillers etc. So why am I watching?
I know you’re an Architect so that is your niche advantage as a RUclipsr. But being a RUclipsr and trying to learn the lay of the land you’re becoming more of a RUclipsr and maybe that is how you play into the algorithm but by your own admission Apple gave you an M1 Pro because of your profession, yet you made a video about your RUclipsr side that mimics all other RUclips videos.
A lot of people are team support, so their opinion gets them feel good support but it doesn’t make money in this Capitalistic society we are so nestled into.
I am rooting for you and want to see you rise above the sea of RUclipsrs but RUclips isn’t like TV where a channel like ComputerX does the hard work and a show there is money in the bag. Or HGTV etc the viewers are already there. Time is money, and a 20min video is way too long and only real fans want to watch.
I just want an answer to a question. There is a big niche for Architecture on RUclips. I even watch a lot of Videos from this Filipino guy I think his channel is Liam something, he’s grown on me and I don’t even like him.
I think your channel can be exceptional cause you have a lot of advantages, but you have to invest in yourself for people to invest in you. Go buy an M1 MAX if Apple on gave you an M1 PRO - run the full gamut of experiences as an Architect let us see you fail to do the very things we want to do ourselves. That is RUclips life lived in vacarious-ness.
You have to play RUclips vs. RUclips playing you for their benefit. They want us all to be content creators and consumers and soon, having a Million subs would be impossible. So I hope to see you make it before the window closes cause unlike Liam I actually like you.

So I’m not really drawing heavy in my work… I usually just sketch in iPad for my team and they develop the models. Then I just review and check. So I’ve been researching abt this also. Nice review - I must echo you comment about the biggest selling point of the M1 chips is the power efficiency. For general and media processing software the M1 can easily match the best intel laptops, they fall behind against dedicated gpu's, but only when running when plugged in, on battery the difference is far less or even in favour of the M1. That combined with the fact that they do all of this at a fraction of the power consumption is amazing. Apple are ahead of the game atm, but wouldn't be surprised to see ARM based chips dominating latops within 5 years.

I waited for this M1 Pro and Max chips for so long to triumph any type of filtering hiccups like using parallels or Boot Camp but if something is not made for for something specifically then (architecture softwares in arm chips) it’s not worth it. I decided finally buy the Rug Z13 as it does everything I need it to do. Runs all architecture softwares and I can draw on it. I ran out of patience for architecture softwares to be fully compatible with apple and windows laptops. Sticking with windows!

I was going to unfollow if you suggested this for architecture, LOL, jk. Not that I don't like Apple or Macs, I've just encountered a lot of dishonest and uninformed people that recommend Macs when architectural software is geared toward Windows PCs, especially Revit. I was actually excited and impressed with what Apple did to the efficiency and performance because it really exposed how the chipmakers have been lacking in their efforts. Now the real innovation will start across the board. I'll also be keeping an eye on the stocks. ;) ;) Great research and the honesty about the software is truly appreciated. Really looking forward to seeing if and/or how you use your iPad in your workflow.

I don't know if you still read these, but I'll just throw it out here. I just started my master's in urban planning. My laptop died so I have to get a new one. I can get a hp zbook power g8 with Intel i7 11800H for +-€1100 (discount of around €750). But I'm also thinking about getting an m1 pro. I've learned revit doesn't work with the M-processors (though I've also read that it does nowadays), but since I'm doing urban planning I'll make more use of software like sketchup, lumion and Adobe software. After some debating and thinking and going back and forth, I'm leaning towards the hp, but I thought maybe you can help me make a final decision :)

From my personal experience this has been the most reliable system for all my design & rendering projects. It’s been around for awhile, however it’s just a little too pricey. There are two models which I recommend the GoBOXX SLM. I would like to try the MacBook Pro and a few other workstations that more affordable with the same quality & performance.

  • @rommellagera8543

For students I would recommend using Intel/AMD laptop, most of your Profs are not using Apple laptop, they are there to provide concepts and will use software that are convenient and affordable for them. If the Prof says use this software (some are decade old), it will be your problem if you have M1.
But, from student's perspective, we must consider the psychology of things. Most student will say, if only I have Apple M1/M1 Pro I will be super productive. If compatibility becomes an issue I can always buy a cheap Intel/AMD laptop as secondary laptop. 🤑🤑🤑
I am a 51 year old freelance developer and I used the same justification (super productivity) when I bought my 2020 MBP 16 core-i9 model. Up to now I am still expecting for the productivity aspect to happen. 🤔🤔🤔
