While everyone else was going nuts about all their other songs and pretty much never played this song, this has always been my fav Daft Punk song since the day I first heard it a very very long time ago. Now I understand why I always liked this one the most, I didn't realize it back then, but now I can honestly say it's the insane creativity and vibes of this song. It's an absolute masterpiece.
This song must of been insane to make, it's probably the most complex song Daft Punk song made. It has 15 songs (that we know of) sampled in it, and even over 20 years later, people are still finding different samples in this one song. It is produced by Todd Edwards, who is known for using samples like this, but even for him, this had to be an achievement. For those curious, the 15 songs we know for sure are in this are: 1. Evil Woman by Electric Light Orchestra (ELO) 2. Can't Get It Out of My Head by ELO 3. Old and Wise by Alan Parsons Project (APP) 4. Silence and I by APP 5. House at Pooh Corner by Loggins and Messina (L/M) 6. Be Free by L/M 7. Twins Theme by Dan Fogelberg and Tim Weisberg (F/W) 8. Tell Me to My Face by F/W 9.Lahaina Luna by F/W 10. You Got Some Imagination by Boz Scaggs 11. All Along the Watchtower by Dave Mason 12. Sometimes a Love Goes Wrong by Carrie Lucas 13. Everybody's Next One by Steppenwolf 14. Body and Soul by Firefall 15. South City Midnight Lady by The Doobie Brothers. Edit: There was another one found. 16. Faith in the Families by Poco 2nd Edit: Recently, Todd Edwards streamed that he found the original disk that had the 'face to face' samples on it. from this, 3 more samples were found. 17. Jisco Dazz by Herbie Mann 18. It Keeps You Running by The Doobie Brothers 19. The Letter by Deborah Washington Final Edit: the final track was found. 20. Nothing Like Love by Rockie Robbins
Now hearing Todd Edwards’s own work, his influence in this song feels so obvious, I recommend all should check out his work! His album Prima Edizione is fucking great!
Probably for me the most complete and perfect song. After all these years it still gives me goosebumps and brings tears to my eyes. I salute you Daft Punk ✌
This is it. My favorite song on Discovery. Todd Edwards’ vocals, the Frankenstein’s Monster of samples, the fact that it’s hidden at the end of the album like a prize to everyone who made it this far, all of it. And combined with its use in Interstella, it feels like perfect climax of Discovery.
Its honestly refreshing to see anyone mention Todd. Not only the fact that he sang the vocals but helping them sample things out in the style that he pioneered and inspired them is what makes it so unique compared to the other sampling on the track and are what allow it to go super hard. Bless
Words can’t describe how awesomely complex this track is. I’m just going to say that it’s just purely intricate ear candy for the people……and that’s fucking epic.
I was born 90's and still kept listening until now and this kind of groove still hits differently in today's generation, im lucky that i have this on my era.
Daft Punk made a future funk song before future funk was even a thing. They even had the anime visuals to go along. It's like they could see the future. Edit: This comment was made 4 years ago and future funk is pretty much dead now lol. French house will live on forever tho.
This is the definitive answer to whether you have a system that leaves you unimpressed. If your jaw is less than dropped after hearing this under your current setup then you know the answer.
I always feel like this album is when they decided that “Hey our first experimental album went pretty good, let’s just go all in and see people go crazy.” And people did.
This is easily their most accessible album next to Random Access Memories, with Homework you really need to be in the mindset of being at a underground House concert to really get into the album, this stuff is funky af and way more easy to listen to.
I watched a video breaking down this song and it's crazy to me that the lines "face to face" and "face to face now" are actually the line "Christopher" and "Christopher Robin" tuned up
To everyone who wonders what the background lyrics actually say - nearly all of this song is samples. So are the background vocal parts. You can find out what they say: 0:09 'eeh-uuuh' = "A[nd s]o[meday]" (The Alan Parsons Project: Old and Wise @ 01:18) 0:11 "Christopher Rob[in]" (Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina: House at Pooh Corner @ 02:27) So, sorry to disappoint you, but it's neither "Mr. Footlong" nore "You are ... Face to face now".
I think that Face to face is the song that contains most samples from different songs, at least 15 songs are sampled in this one ... Je crois que Face to face est la chanson qui contient le plus de samples de chansons différentes, il y en a au moins 15 dans celle ci... Par ordre d'apparition 0:08 Elo, Evil woman, 1975 0:09 Carrie Lucas, Sometimes a love goes wrong, 1979 0:09 Alan parson's project, Silence and I, 1982 0:10 Alan parson's project, Old and wise, 1982 0:11 Dave Mason, All along the watch tower, 1974 0:12 Loggins and Messina, House at Pooh corner, 1971 0:13 Steppenwolf, Everybody's next one, 1968 0:40 Elo, Can't get it out of my head, 1974 0:41 Loggins and Messina, Be free, 1974 0:41 Fogelberg and Weisberg, Tell me to my face, 1978 0:42 Firefall, Body and soul, 1982 0:43 Boz Scaggs, You got some imagination, 1980 0:43 Fogelberg and Weisberg, Lahaina Luna, 1978 0:44 Alan parson's project, Old and wise, 1982 0:47 Alan parson's project, Old and wise, 1982, but another part of the song 0:48 The Doobie Brothers, South city midnight lady, 1973 2:58 Fogelberg and Weisberg, Twins theme, 1978

It is produced by Todd Edwards, who is known for using samples like this, but even for him, this had to be an achievement.
For those curious, the 15 songs we know for sure are in this are:
1. Evil Woman by Electric Light Orchestra (ELO)
2. Can't Get It Out of My Head by ELO
3. Old and Wise by Alan Parsons Project (APP)
4. Silence and I by APP
5. House at Pooh Corner by Loggins and Messina (L/M)
6. Be Free by L/M
7. Twins Theme by Dan Fogelberg and Tim Weisberg (F/W)
8. Tell Me to My Face by F/W
9.Lahaina Luna by F/W
10. You Got Some Imagination by Boz Scaggs
11. All Along the Watchtower by Dave Mason
12. Sometimes a Love Goes Wrong by Carrie Lucas
13. Everybody's Next One by Steppenwolf
14. Body and Soul by Firefall
15. South City Midnight Lady by The Doobie Brothers.
Edit: There was another one found.
16. Faith in the Families by Poco
2nd Edit: Recently, Todd Edwards streamed that he found the original disk that had the 'face to face' samples on it. from this, 3 more samples were found.
17. Jisco Dazz by Herbie Mann
18. It Keeps You Running by The Doobie Brothers
19. The Letter by Deborah Washington
Final Edit: the final track was found.
20. Nothing Like Love by Rockie Robbins
the fact this song has 26 samples is insane
This is the most complex songs I've listened to, it samples multiple songs, and it makes it a masterpiece.
My favorite Daft Punk song of all time, RIP legends 1993-2021
Now hearing Todd Edwards’s own work, his influence in this song feels so obvious, I recommend all should check out his work! His album Prima Edizione is fucking great!
Levels of sampling:
Level 1 - Noob
Level 2 - Pro
Level 3 - Daft Punk
Probably for me the most complete and perfect song. After all these years it still gives me goosebumps and brings tears to my eyes. I salute you Daft Punk ✌
0:40-0:44 and 0:48-0:53 are the most underrated parts of this song
DEATH'S DINAMIC SHROUD MENTIONED‼️‼️
Bless
One really dosen't know how much of a masterpiece this track is until they find all the samples and effort put into this one song
Sampling is such a meta way to make music. Imagine you're a musician and your instrument is OTHER SONGS
I literally have goose bumps right now I felt all all the hairs stand up wtf.
describes my exgf perfectly ^-^
lol is that a good for bad thing??
ye i loved her :D
oh well damn
ikr
This track is a masterclass in sampling
The song Face to Face has 70 samples in total! Wow!! Daft Punk Genius of our time.
70 is the amount of considered samples, only 20 were used
U should look at the avalanches. A couple of their albums have 2000+ samples on them
*2021, piping in. Still Daft Punks' Most Underrated - Track. Cheers.*
YES, FINALLY A 2021 MATE.
This clearly didn't age well 😂
@@thelittletyrant5539 "aged" it was commented a month ago. Be gone foul Troll.
Not a single bad song in this album... rip DP
grammar error: remove “in this album”
@@pentagonanimates lol nice one
@@pentagonanimates grammatical error: add "except Make Love"
Edit: also Lose Yourself To Dance since Pharrell decided to sing like Miss Piggy on it
I couldnt agree any less
In my opinion this is the best daft punk song
after the sample breakdown vid, I started to appreciate this song so much
The best Daft Punk track.
To think that many elements of this song are actually sampled, yet it all feels seamlessly put.
Im pretty sure moslty everything is sampled apart from the chorus bit, I've seen a sample breakdown with like 13 different sample
lets goo i love TOOL and Daft punk
Words can’t describe how awesomely complex this track is. I’m just going to say that it’s just purely intricate ear candy for the people……and that’s fucking epic.
yes
One of the lyrics is Too Long and the next and final song on this album is Too Long. Well played Daft Punk
Actually it's tu rentres
Not to mention that "Too Long" is a 10 minute song.
TM we’ve had it wrong all along
to- rob
this is genuinely the best song i've ever heard in my life
Anyone who listened to this in the 2000s is elite I didn’t even know about this song... but holyshit it’s good
Me at 7 yr old :)
MTV used to broadcast the Music Videos for various songs of the Album
having older siblings with good music taste sure helped :)
0:41 oh that part is so sad
Fahrezi Farel THAT PART IS 🔥
The Discovery album was probably the best part of my early teen years. And Face To Face was played on repeat nearly nonstop.
This is one of the best DP tracks I’ve heard. I love the ones with more vocals
Bro, this was the most sampled song, yet so underrated. Preposterous
I was born 90's and still kept listening until now and this kind of groove still hits differently in today's generation, im lucky that i have this on my era.
I love you with all my heart Daft Punk
Holy fucking throwback. I remember listening to this in 2006 with Interstella 5555.
Daft Punk made a future funk song before future funk was even a thing. They even had the anime visuals to go along. It's like they could see the future.
Edit: This comment was made 4 years ago and future funk is pretty much dead now lol. French house will live on forever tho.
Well, it known as "trend setting"
They were the future my friend
Exactly my thoughts. So far ahead of their time, might as well be time travelers.
@@cowboytapes820 To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me! I can hardly explain their music as it is!
no offense, but this has nothing to do with future funk
This is my favorite Daft Punk song.
My favorite is something about us
I loveee itttt
If this is your favorite you will LOVE todd edwards. He's the mastermind behind this track, also the vocalist
This is the definitive answer to whether you have a system that leaves you unimpressed. If your jaw is less than dropped after hearing this under your current setup then you know the answer.
I always feel like this album is when they decided that “Hey our first experimental album went pretty good, let’s just go all in and see people go crazy.”
And people did.
still crazy to think that they managed to shake up the entire industry with just four albums over the course of less than sixteen years
This is easily their most accessible album next to Random Access Memories, with Homework you really need to be in the mindset of being at a underground House concert to really get into the album, this stuff is funky af and way more easy to listen to.
@@shaitet and human after all is just hard to get into but once you get into it, you want nothing else
@Daft Punk So many thanks to you guys! It was fantastic voyage with you
First heard this track a couple of months ago at a lounge in TN Chattanooga. I fell in love with it
Goodbye Daft Punk, you'll be missed!
Todd Edwards: How many samples do you want for your song?
Daft Punk: Yes
despite listening to this like 50 times a day i always get the urge to play this song one more time
Same, I've played it at least 300 times now :{
i see what you did there
@@theununtrium What do you mean? I'm just saying I can't stop listening. I'm human, after all.
@@SpacenoidCentral "one more time"
@@theununtriumBro didn’t spot human after all
I watched a video breaking down this song and it's crazy to me that the lines "face to face" and "face to face now" are actually the line "Christopher" and "Christopher Robin" tuned up
I was wondering why I considered this Daft Punk’s greatest masterpiece. And then the flute kicked in!!
We finally got them. All 20 samples. Holy shit, this song is legendary.
This song is a great example of sampling done right.
ok
@@AaronMerchant It's not okay. It's more than okay.
Too Long
Mr. Foot-long
Mr. Foot-
*Electric Guitar Riffs*
In the sample mr. foot-long is Christopher Rob
nadav140 Nah it's face-to-fae-nah
"Qu'est-ce tu fais là?"
lyrics:
too long
five dollar foot long!
five dolar foot!
Bobby Yon too long
What's da furlong ?
What's da fur
This song is the reason i like daft punk
To everyone who wonders what the background lyrics actually say - nearly all of this song is samples. So are the background vocal parts. You can find out what they say:
0:09 'eeh-uuuh' = "A[nd s]o[meday]" (The Alan Parsons Project: Old and Wise @ 01:18)
0:11 "Christopher Rob[in]" (Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina: House at Pooh Corner @ 02:27)
So, sorry to disappoint you, but it's neither "Mr. Footlong" nore "You are ... Face to face now".
Way to break the immersion.
Songs sampled in this:
*TOO MANY*
This one is mad underrated, thank you guys for all those years of great music and inspiration!
2024 this song is as fresh as the first day it came out
Imperatrice (Todd Edwards) provides vocals for this song; he is also in another Daft Punk song, named "Fragments of Time"
I'm glad im not the only one that comes back to the discovery album for a nostalgia trip
I discovered Interstella 5555/Discovery a week ago and I'm in absolute love with it. Favorite album ever and this is my by far favorite song.
I think that Face to face is the song that contains most samples from different songs, at least 15 songs are sampled in this one ...
