Haha, yeah, wish they'd update them! I've told them this a few times, I hope they end up listening and taking action.
I've been using the TL60 tubes lights and the possibilities with those lights are outstanding. Otherweise, I think this TL30, due to its size and limited output, is not as useful as his big brother. I wish they release a TL120 version in the near future, that would be the perfect light to complete my ilumination kit. Great video, as always!!!! :D
I agree, a longer tube light would be alot nicer! Its possible they are in the making.... :D

Nice review! Exactly what I wanted to see! actually my only nit was with the ball head solution. I think there's a better/cheaper way! They have packs of those off camera flash umbrella mounts that come with cold shoes and 3/8s spigots for like 30 bucks total. You could totally use those to secure and adjust the light however you want. AND diffuse it with an umbrellaellaella!

use gobo heads and Manfrotto 013 Adapter and you are fine. they are standards in movie making sets and if you have one ore two you will end up using them a lot ;)

I have these and the Nanlite Pavotubes, the Nanlites are far superior, and the diffusion on the Godox is quite bad, you can see the LEDs through the diffuser, sadly they could've had a great product, but the shortcuts they took leave it a bit short of something decent.

After a couple of uses my TL30 would no longer charge. Great light but not convinced the build quality is there.

I got the 4 light kit and the thing I use these for is hair light/ back light in tight spots and as a work light when house lights are down.

I suppose you could, tho you'd have to have them constantly plugged in and turn each on individually each time, so that would be a bother.

I’m super curious how these compare to the Nanlite Pavotubes. Also exactly the same price for a single unit. But it doesn’t appear that Nanlite has this many accessories or modifiers so that’s pretty cool!
I have the pavotube, and its biggest downfall for me is no remote way to control it. Otherwise they do mostly the same things with a few small design differences. I really like the Godox ones a smidge better over Pavotubes but also really like the Iwata tube lights - got a video on those here on the channel (its on the end screen as well).

I’ve actually been wanting to get a small tube light for a while now, so they all look pretty good. Would you say that the Iwata has the longest battery life? I’m also curious if you could power any of them off mains power while using them. I’ve been considering getting one for lighting a livestream that I do so power/battery life are probably the most important to me. I had actually completely forgotten about that detail until I watched your videos! Thanks for all the super helpful info!!!! 😀
You can power all of them off mains power while using them, forgot to maybe mention that, haha! :D And I'd say the Iwata does have a slightly better battery performance. Also, I don't know why, but I really just love the colors that come out of the Iwata tube lights. Haha, I haven't proven why or anything, just something to note is all! In the end, I'd say from personal experience to stay away from the small pavotubes (I've just had issues with mine since having it), go with the larger if you want to go the nanlite route, and then either Godox or Iwata is good for the smaller tube lights. :D Hope that helps!
@@FellowFilmmaker ok awesome! That is seriously appreciated! I most certainly trust your qualitative opinion since you have so much experience using a huge range of different lights! That makes a lot of sense to me. I’ve noticed for myself that some RGB lights are more saturated than others (I have 2 different sets of GVM panels, and they are definitely not created equal), and there is absolutely no way I would have been able to know that without you sharing. That is quite awesome. Thanks so much! I’ll probably end up going with the Iwata because of the color and better battery life that you mentioned (good to know they can all be powered off mains as well 😀).

But seriously consider the accessories that Godox has for the tube lights, get the grid at the very least, I use it alot! :D
Is it usable for long exposure light painting photo? Or this comes under videography light?
Cause the 2 light combo is similar priced to Godox lc500R.

Have you tried the smaller ball heads, which are also much cheaper? But yes I agree, they need to solve it for you and not make you buy other gear to use the included accessories
I did not, because the ones I've got from smallrig stink at holding any weight.

Great video - you got a new sub! Do you know of any other tube lights priced the same or cheaper that have better built in diffusion? I would like to have 2 as key lights on either side of my super wide monitor instead of more traditional key lights, but the godox seems like it would be too harsh for this kind of scenario... Thanks!
Iwata Master S tubes are good, I like those. Nanlite pavotube as well has good diffusion.

I guess it would depend on what you're using it for. Grab two of each maybe? :D I use them both here and there, but don't ever really need 4 of just one of them.
Judging by the juggling, would you be comfortable chucking one of these lights into a backpack to use as a travel light?

Yeah, the specs would be near unrecordable at the usual distance since they aren't that bright of a light

I believe the 500r is a brighter tube light, so if that's what you care about then that would be a good choice

Re: the need for ball heads: what about a friction arm? Are they too heavy for something of that nature?
It might work with certain friction arms, like the ifootage ones, not sure about all.

Now you've reviewed the Godox TL30 and the Iwata Master S, if you had to choose, which do you prefer?
Both obviously have their app gripes (something that seems universal on short RGB tubes), so it comes down to overall quality from the hardware.
I like the hardware for whatever reason on Iwata. Just something about them I like a tad more. Both are fine technically
