  • How to Make a Trip Report
This video will be about How To Make a Trip Report Video, specifically about the equipment I personally use.
As I state multiple times throughout this video about How To Make a Trip Report Video, YOU DON’T NEED ANY of these tools to . I have learned through trial-and-error about what works for me. I also geek out on this stuff.
But, truth be told, all you really need is a willingness to make a Trip Report Video, a camera, and a trip. Everything else is gravy. Don’t let a lack of equipment hold you back from making a Trip Report Video!
But, if you’re looking for some new tools to make a Trip Report Video, consider the ones I use. Also, in accordance with my sponsorship policy (jeb.flights/sponsors), I want to be clear that the channel will receive a small commission (which I’ll use to make more Trip Report Videos) if you choose to buy using the links below.

On the hero 7, you can go into the settings and turn off the front blinking light while still leaving the back one on (just to save you placing tape on it!)

Thank you so much for making this video - and all of your videos! You telling people to not let anything hold them back from doing this gave me just the last little push I needed to commit to doing this kind of thing in my own quirky way. I have the iPhone 12 Pro and my boyfriend is a photographer (and my biggest supporter), so I have a lot of the simple things I need to get started. We have a trip to London booked for next April, but I won’t be waiting that long to get started. I haven’t been to DFW in quite a long time, and I always did have big soft spot for that airport, so maybe that’ll be one of my first stops. Thanks again for all of your great content! It’s helping me cope with a lot and to find my way forward.

Nice and clear explanations! I was going to post about disabling the GoPro flashing light, but several people beat me to it!
A couple of comments - the GoPro window mount is the best one I've used so far and I found a ball joint swivel mount that lets me easily turn the camera from side to side. Also, for those of us without loads of amenity kit pouches, Bagsmart cable organiser travel bags are very useful for cables, batteries, chargers, powerbanks etc.

My recovery is coming along. I have another month of cardio rehab still to go. I will be allowed to fly again in February perhaps, or March. That works out great because I have plans to go to California in April! I've never been there, and I've never taken a transcontinental flight before, so that should be really interesting! I'm in that 'small subset' that finds this video interesting and informative. You always have great travel and related videos! I use a DSLR for my studio / home shots but everything else is either compact camera sized or action camera sized or cell phone sized to minimize the equipment I need to carry and take with me. Actually... much like your equipment. But all this is just stuff. What you really need is a basic video recording device (min. 1080p) and a good 'Story' to tell. Without a good story, everything else is just shtuff. Tasty icing on the cake but the cake is really what you need. Thanks again for thinking about us folks in the small subset that find this interesting. Cheers. 🥂

That is incredible, Jeb. Thanks for sharing! I have considered doing some RUclips work and some of my attempts in a few areas are already posted. I was looking around the house recently and realized I have a Canon 70D with a good complement of lenses, an iPhone, several Macs -- all with iMovie, I'm a pretty good PhotoShop user and subscribe, I have some limited photography lights, wireless lavalier mics... All those things have accumulated without any thought of what could be done on RUclips. I've always wanted a GoPro with a good suction mount, so that's already justified since I want to see and hear what my car looks and sounds like when I drive fast. I have a decent voice, occasionally told I have a TV or radio voice and I love speaking to a crowd.
My RUclips interest is different than your genre but I might make an occasional "Trip Report," say to somewhere like Walmart, the local Moonshine Museum, chronicle my own trips -- you get the picture even if it's not a pretty one. My questions are: 1. Good sources for music that is free to use in such videos? 2. If you occasionally did videos including objects, would you consider an inexpensive gimble mount? 3. How did you begin building your subscribers and viewers without paid social media or other advertising? It would seem the first 0-100 or 0-1,000 would be the toughest. 4. What are your feelings on maintaining a consistent type of opening and closing segment? And finally, 5. What do you think of creating a logo for opening and closing segments and using the same logo in the lower right or left corner -- i.e. A watermark, DOG or Bug?
Keep up the great work! I started watching your trip reports first and branched out to the others; however, when all are among my alerts, I always watch yours first. The whole lot of trip reporters seems to be a very amicable and tight-knit group. Some I subscribe to now I first learned of on your channel!

Love seeing how you go about producing the trip reports! Pretty nice seeing that you primarily used your iPhone for the CRJ-550 video as it looked more like you used a higher end camera...makes me want to upgrade when the time comes.
It's really easy to see how passionate you are with the effort and attitude you come towards the quality in content, so I hope you can keep making these videos as you enjoy producing them for us.

Really appreciate the behind the scenes Jeb, great video!
Another camera type to consider is the Insta 360 one X, because it’s a 360 camera, you aren’t “pointing” it at anyone, so I’ve gotten no pushback or comments from crews or passengers. You just frame it in post! You’re also able to get some great 360 shots panning within a seat/suite without a person holding the camera, but that’s my style of video, I’m incognito!

For those looking for a solid video editor that is free, Davinci Resolve has a free version for both Mac and PC. Great video. I do audio engineering for a living. It can be a pain with background noises. There are means to knock it down. They make small mic isolation stands also, a cheap way is to wrap the back of the mic with a heavy cloth such as a towel. It is amazing what those little things can do. If you have any questions Jeb message me.

You are a pro Jeb! Not only you have the right gears for what you do, you also have the personality and voice too.
As for me, I too have a humble, virtually unknown travel channel of my own. I do not enjoy appearing in front of the camera, and it is captions oriented; so perhaps that's why I don't have much viewers. Anyway, believe it or not I have been using almost exclusively JUST the Sony RX100 iv + sometimes my Android phone until recently. I have just added a GoPro Hero8 a few weeks ago, so we will see how my new videos will look like in the future. See you in the sky.

I am jealous of your a6500 xD I have the 6300 and LOVE it. Perfect balance of ISO performance and compact size. My only gripe was no Image stabilization (When I bought it the 6500 was not out yet). My go to lens is a Samyang 16mm F2. It's a large clunky lens on the tiny body but worth it. I love Samyang glass for its low cost, low distortion, and great sharpness which is why that 6500 in body image stabilization would have been nice. I love watching your videos I have only flows a few times in my life but do love it. Edit/PS at 5:44 if you ever accidentally delete video or pictures look up ZAR recovery software it has saved my butt a few times.

You can also do universal lens mount with sony which will allow you to do canon ef mounts for things like the 50 lrome which is a good lens, canon just has some good glassploy.

Interesting watching this video from a video professional's point of view. Also in the Triad so maybe we'll bump into one another at some point. Probably already have.

I love to watch and make trip reports so much! The only problem I have is the fact I edit my Full Flight Reviews on my iPhone XR. Right now my phone is not working so I have to find another way to edit a video. I had some great footage from the summer vacation I was on. I had a video I was going to upload about United's 777-200 with a 2-4-2 business class cabin. I also flew on one of United's Boeing 757-200's in their domestic first class cabin which are the same seats you would find on the international and transcontinental routes. I hope the footage would still be in the editing app because sometimes I would get my phone back and the app would lose the editing progress.

Cool video. I feel like I'd like to do this but with a wider variety of travel. I love to cruise and have had the fortune to have been a wide variety of place throughout the world. I think I would be better at travel advice but don't have the personality in my mind like many who do on these vlogs. I agree, I really just turn off the ones that just use subtitles. IMO, the other mistake many make is getting full of themselves and suddenly you have hour long vlogs, I follow a lot of people and don't have time for that. When it becomes about you and not the content, zzzzzzzzzz. Appreciate you have not fallen into that trap!

Great info, I have a ton of travel footage that I have been hesitant to put up. Mostly because I am not well versed on editing. Any recommendations on that for a beginner? I use Apple mostly iPhone 13 pro max..mahalo!
