I’ve seen so many roofers take for granted the thin plastic covering and neutral wire when they are working near a roof stack. I try to educate them in the danger of the cost having a small crack or the neutral not being what they think it is. Could you do a video that educates the people regarding this type of wire that goes to their roof stack on a overhead plant versus an underground plant.
Been an industrial processing electrician, now high voltage electrician with the state of California. Gona get my switchman training for 115kv. If I could do it over I would go for line man. You guys do what few would. Keep up the great content 👏
We have hot sticks in the foundry I work in. Some of our equipment has 900 amp switches and fuses. Last week one of my coworkers didn’t want to take the time to get one, so he decided to use a steel handled slag rake that was lying close by. Fortunately the supervisor saw what he was doing and stopped him, giving him a written warning at the same time. He grumbled and whined but I told him he’s damn lucky someone stopped him. The concrete he was standing on was wet from cooling water overspray and he was in a puddle. Who knows what would have happened?

Quick question, for 20 years I worked in Ontario doing underground utilities, working very close with a Hydro company. When we had to replace vaults or primary lines, any primary being replaced was spiked to ensure it was indeed dead or non energized. It that practice still used? I know a few times it definitely proved it’s worth.
It certainly is! Most times tho, we're able to ground at the termination and pull from there. If the cutting point is in a pit midway where only part of a cable is being replaced ... We will still ground on either end, but then use a wireless cutter in the pit. The cutter will ground/drain the cable as it goes through.
I would guess the orange ones are 6footers and yellow are 8foot? Most guess who have been doing this rather have a shorter stick to work. Personally like a 4foot shotgun stick.
I liked the yellow ones too. I remember that on those shotguns the lever has to face you in order for the hook to release straight up. I think Chance makes the orange ones?
Orange (chance) sticks are much stiffer and you can get more torque when removing taps or using it as a hammer lol, the yellow Hastings sticks have a more ergonomic button, easier to get used to if you've never used one. The hook end also seems to fit into ground chain eyes better idk why
I need to order a new stick, do you have any experience with chance vs Hastings? Quote I got back has the Hastings about $100 cheaper, wondering if it’s worth it.
I think they're both great products. There's a few differences between sticks with moveable parts that come down to preference. I've never used the Hastings grab-all, but love their Telescopic
Wish I woulda thought of that one time I needed to cut a stringed you knot of balloons from the feeder. My ground help passed me a stick with a knife taped to the end lol. Needless to say it wasn’t very effective.
Valuable trick. However, if you have a real groundman on your crew, you'll never be without the proper tool you need. (retired groundman, 39 yrs. of service).
Hey what's the Best Bucket truck out their in this day and age for doing live medium voltage on 45 foot poles? Our the most common that utility's use? Thanks.
I can't count the number of times I've black taped a knives to a stick along with other items to get the job done. Put enough tape on it and it ain't going anywhere.

Slick! I'll definitely keep that in mind, especially the clamp, thanks!
You look like a shaolin fighter with the stick and the knife. I'm very happy that I don't work on hot lines.
Trigger towards the sky.
I remember that from NLC.

😮 concrete conducts easily if wet! full of minerals he is lucky!
Thanks for the awesome videos man extremely helpful and interesting
@Nicholas Prange thanks for the feedback 👊
Great and informative videos brother. Thank you 👍🏻👍🏻
That knife one was pretty neat
😈 My grandfather used to say if the tool ain’t right the man ain’t bright. My grandfather would approve of you, your tools and your knowledge.
It sounds like you have a lot of respect for your grandfather. Although we've never met, I feel honored 🙏. Thanks for the kind words 👊👊

There is an attachment that will allow you to do anything that you could do with your hands.
Good tip

Can you make a video on the most important things to practice while in Lineman School?
You know it seems like all the journeymen at my school like the orange hot sticks while all of us students like the yellows, interesting divide

@@bryanlettow4389 yeah chance makes the orange and I believe hastings makes the yellows, I just find the yellows easier to use

I think a lot of it depends on how much you climb.
when the apocalypse comes you can use the knife stick as a speer

With Hastings shotguns you hold the stick so the button is on the side to have the hook pointed up.
Hey boss can you show me how you attach a leverage bar to the hot stick and what adapter is required for it to work?

Be careful ooooooot there when its that windy oooooot
Cool videos. I’m curious what kind of winter work gloves you wear? Are they Superior glove company?

There is a lot of bias obviously, but my personal favourite bucket trucks are Posi Plus
Depends on the brand of shotgun
Never had an issue w/hastings or chance shotguns, there's an adjustment for the sliding rod so tools stay snug.
I have my appertship interview on Thursday any tips?
Get your knee pads ready. Change them out every third day and always carry chap stick
Genius!
Is there anything out there are simple tricks for getting hot clamps off with long stick.and back on?
A long stick? Why are you wanting to take them off with a long stick? Or did you mean shotgun?
Any hints on how to study for your IP
It's been a long time! Definitely practice reading a few load charts. Memorize all your formulas and take a read through the Lineman's Handbook!
