    We've gone in full circle. I bought an Al Mar Sere 2000 watching your videos back in the days. I just dug it out to clean and lube it while watch this video.

    Al Mar was a really interesting guy, as was the history of his knife company. Had s lot of cool designs.

    Man--Id love to see a tour of your old Al Mar knives! I remember as a kid, the full-page ads in Blade abd Tactical Knives for the Warrior and the Grunt 2. My favorite was his survival knife--featured in Cyborg, with JCVD. Great designs all around. I believe he made a big "Alaskan" bowie too, but that was before my time.

      Yes indeed, you remember, back then they were a big deal! I'll do a full collection video once I get more of the new ones. I have 4 of his older ones.

    I am always rewarded watching your Channel. Al Mar made great LOOKING very desirable knives! I lusted after them in the 1980's. Never had one. The TOPS Knives fixed blade designed by Al Mar is discontinued, but was/ is awesome and wanted.

      I'll never forget how much my favorite video you made (on the spyderco seratta ) was fun to watch over n over. And it is one of my best,most liked knives. I just got Enuff 2 this week and I gotta say fixed blade, straight knives rock my world

      @WeAllJuggleKnives  8 месяцев назад

      The Enuff series is really good, only reason I haven't got one yet is the price, but I will get one eventually.

    I agree. I gave my AL Mar Eagle to my son when he got his Eagle scout 10 years ago. I saw the 2020 received alot of hate, so I ordered it. It's well made and well priced.

    I was looking forward to watching this review! I was also pleasantly surprised when you busted out the original Al Mar! I was wondering how these two would compare to one another. I'll say this about the new budget version, I would use that one all the time as opposed to the original one. Because if you were to lose or part with that knife in any way, I'd want it to be the budget version as opposed to the vintage, collector's knife. Great review!

    With so many Chinese OEM's using premium materials on their knives, i dont understand why you wouldn't just take the legendary al mar name and design and build them with premium materials. Half the work is done for you! Just make it with some decent materials!

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  8 месяцев назад +2

      That is true. I think they are going to have Bestech make one in Taiwan, their website promised an S35VN model in the future.

    • @TheScotchaholic
      @TheScotchaholic 7 месяцев назад

      Simple answer to your question:
      The Chinese brand aka parent company in question is Edge Technologies Engineering LLC, whose owner obviously has no clue to who Al Mar was and his brand's reputation and legacy.
      Reate Knives of China, should've been the ones to acquire the Al Mar brand, since they're a world class knife brand and OEM, that would do Al Mar's designs justice.

    I love how knife manufacturers say "FRN" to make you think that the handle scales are some kind of futuristic material. Yet in reality, it's just plastic. lol.
    Great vid as always.

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  8 месяцев назад +5

      Thanks, bro! Zytel is another one (it's just Dupont formula FRN).

    • @TheScotchaholic
      @TheScotchaholic 7 месяцев назад

      Hey, not all "plastics" are the same. Some are really cheap and cheesy, and will break if dropped on concrete or asphalt, whereas good glass reinforced plastics like Zytel or Griv-Ex will survive countless drops and just look beat up. Also, good plastics have a durable temperature range, and won't become too soft in hot and humid environments, while not becoming very brittle and breakable in very cold conditions.

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  7 месяцев назад

      @@TheScotchaholic - Very true, ABS scales will crack a lot more easily than the FRN.

    That looks like a great value. Thank you for the heads up. The guy who designed Magnacut said 8cr14mov is testing tougher than 35vn. If they heat-treat it as good as Spyderco Byrd knives, it should be a winner. I consider buying one through your link. Be well😊

    Kinda looks like if Ontario put a new spin on the Rat 1. I'm not a fan of assisted opening, but it does look like it's a heavy duty built knife. For 40 bucks might have to try it

    all my Al Mar knives are from the 1990s when he still signed the boxes. different time, different quality.

    • @TheScotchaholic
      @TheScotchaholic 7 месяцев назад +1

      As of now, China does have premium blade companies that would do Al's designs justice (Reate, WE, Kizer, Maxace, and Bestech).
      Unfortunately, some smaller non-established company named Edge Technologies Engineering LLC, acquired the Mar brand. If they had a clue and the capabilities, Al Mar Knives would never be a budget brand.

    I remember when Al Mar knives first came out, way back. At that time there was no way I could afford one. Time goes by and you forget about stuff. Always liked the look of the SERE series of knives. So thanks for showing this knife. I just might get one. I'm definitely going to look into the product line from the new Al Mar co. I agree with you on upgrading the materials .💯👍🏻👍🏻⚓🇺🇲🇺🇲. Ps Just don't make them so expensive only billionaires can afford them.🦈

    Bro, I think it's time to retire those gloves. I bought a pair of the mechanix last year, and used them when splitting firewood and working on my wood stacks. I couldn't believe how quickly I wore holes in the fingers. More hype than anything, IMO.

    If opening boxes and doing general things is for a beater knife whats an expensive knife used for?

    • @WeAllJuggleKnives
      @WeAllJuggleKnives  8 месяцев назад

      An expensive knife is either kept for collecting or it is used for those same things. I do know people who use their Sebenza for all those chores.

    I’ve seen those Al Mar knives for a while now but I never felt compelled to pull the trigger and get one. I’d rather complete my Cold Steel collection of large folding knives.😅 To me an Al Mar knife is like a Toyota Corolla of knives. I’m indifferent to their designs. To each their own I guess.

      @WeAllJuggleKnives  8 месяцев назад +2

      They were all the rage back in the day, but yeah they are opposite of CS, subdued vs. large and in charge. The mini version of this is only $32 though ... at some point they will go low enough to tempt you LOL.

  • @ammarchetta

    The big difference is 8 cr 13 MOV. The more I’ve used that steel the more I dislike it. AUS 8 would be a step up and still in the budget range. Oh well. Deal breaker for me
