This was SO badass -- an ending worthy of a decent Top Dog. And this is how Bea's time on the show should have ended -- with her walking off into the sunset, making the most of being free.
Best escape ever. No big plans or build-up, just Bea pulling a master-stroke. and no-one knows she has a uniform so she can slip away easily without even looking like an escapee. Nice.
Bea was sent to Barnhust; a minimum security prison, earlier in the series.😢
One of Queen Bea's best moments in Prisoner. The best Top Dog Wentworth ever had
Thank God for Val Lehman. Great Escape. It even had some funny moments --sniffing the stinky shoes and then seeing her dressed up as a guard. Is it just me or has this episode and some of the previous ones been a complete bore and waste. without Val these episodes would have been totally intolerable . Missing the old gang Doreen Chrissie Margo Mouse .I think the writers were trying to find a new Direction at this point as they were doing back before the Sandy Edwards Saga. hope they find it.
@@eugenedegeorge5084 Ugh, I don't miss Margo and Doreen in the slightest - annoying as hell, the both of them. I do miss Mouse the cutie though, and Chrissie was a good character you could love and hate at the same time. Yes, Bea Smith was the original and only Top Dog there; all the others were just either fill-ins or the next best thing, for me. Bea affirmed her status as fair dinkum queen status top dog when she took out her deadliest rival, Nola McKenzie.
@@josephd.2725 everyone has their favorite character. I've always said one person's favorite character is another person's most hated character. but I do regard episode 335 when they take Margo out as Drawing the Line in the Sand. after that the show took a different turn fell flat for a while picked up a little bit later on with the arrival of Myra and then later with Rita but to me it was never the same after Margo left not just because of Margo but as I said the whole gang completely
@@eugenedegeorge5084 Yeah, Margo was part of that gang and atmosphere, as annoying as she was. Chrissie should have stayed though. I do miss her big personality and trotting around in her skimpy little uniform. 😋
@Heather Elliott Myra Desmond and Rita Connors were both excellent Top Dogs.
Personally, I think this would've been a perfect ending for Bea, certainly better than the one she got. Her exit here is just fucking kick-ass :D
The best ever 👍👍👍
Agreed, a lot of things fell into place for her, but her throwing Ferguson off the scent with that story of the contraband drop was class.
Yes would have been a great send off for bea
To be free
Agree. I would have liked it more to think Bea just disappeared without a trace and made Joan look incompetent.
do you happen to know why they killed her off? She had left the program and was stating to be forgotten but for some reason they sent word in that she had died in a riot. I always found that really strange, why not just leave her to be in the other prison?
this is something that has haunted me for years and no one seems to talk about it, why kill the b!
Best escape on PCBH ever! Love this storyline
A very creative and plausible escape from Bea! Good on you top dog :)
Lol all the talk about security by the trainer and then he doesn't check his trainees as they leave. lolol
Yes! No fuss, no muss, no going on about the plans endlessly for days beforehand (like Suzie)----just making the escape super clean. :-)
Bea's escape out the gates was WAY better than Myra's with that ridiculous lampshade hat.
@Jamie Nelson future plot 🤣
What episode is the Myra escape?i missed it!
Ep. 459
That hat was huge
Bea looks amazing as an officer, im surprised that she didnt get the part of one instead of the one she got. brilliant and talented lady. val lehman you are awesome. great job.
Val Lehman has shared in interviews that at first she auditioned for the part of Vera Bennett (Vinegar Tits), but changed their plans when they saw what she made of the Bea Smith role. Boy, are we lucky for that change! Fiona Spence was perfect as Vera & Val Lehman a perfect Queen Bea. :-)
Just for the fun of it.. if Bea dress as a screw bump into Vera and still not realized it until Bea got away. Of course far fetch but it would be good to see Vera again. Also a behind the lines what could have been if Val was cast as a screw.
I often wondered how it would be if you switched the screws and prisoners around... they are all just stage actors after all haha.
Val Lehman (Bea Smith) was originally considered for the part of Vera Bennett. Maggie Kirkpatrick had auditioned for the role. The other contenders for the role of Bea Smith included Betty Bobbitt (Judy Bryant), Maggie Kirkpatrick (Joan Ferguson), and Carole Skinner (Nola McKenzie). According to IMDB trivia page.
We saw Bea dressed as an officer before...in the earlier episode when the prisoners put on a Christmas pageant to take the piss out of Vera...she looked great as an officer then too and her impression of Vera was spot on!
Bea was a dead ringer for the freak - even walked like her with hands behind her back lol
DJDelight_Musik to think she auditioned for Vinegar Tits lol
"Security will be my first concern" , excellent and re assuring words as a double murderess walks calmly out of the front gates. Perfect.
They sent Bea to Barnhust earlier, in the series, a minimum security prison.😢
Phyllis said (in regards to Gillian Clarke) - "We should bash her until she loses her memory."
How ironic, coming from Phyllis...
Brilliant escape and added bonus of the "computer crime" music :):)
Don't blame Bea for escaping, she could do with a holiday from Wentworth !!!
Bea looking good dressed as a screw
"Gaggle of baby screws"
Had me cracking up
😆😆😆
Haha!
Another situation where Bea outsmarts Marie Winters
Bea rocks,, that was awesome :)
I'm so getting a Norman Bates vibe from Trevor.
What a smooth break!!!! Good on ya Bea! Saw her chance and ran with it! Couldn't have worked better with a plan.
Go Bea! Brilliant episode. :)
I liked Faye as a character. You would have thought she might of at least had a happy ended for a change and maybe acceptance from her family. Instead, it all came to a quick abrupt end (surely she could have got away with it for a few episodes) and she was never seen again after this episode.
I know. Faye was quite a big character, involved in lots of stuff. Even had a storyline outside of the prison so her exit should have been better. They did the same thing with Chrissie too.
23:20 Mr. Po-Face: "I know I shouldn't have come in to your work...." Yet he keeps doing just that again and again.
Nola: Don't come the bounce with ME Daniels! LOVE IT!!!!!
Man, look at all those old video recorders, they look like something out of the '80s :D
The baby that played judys granson is fays kid in real life awww
bunnyjadeboo tait wow
That Lindy or whatever her name is at the half way house is the sort of girl that acts if she's too good for every man on the planet
I LOVED the scene when that pro was hysterical and Judy slapped her. Not hard enough though.
She wasn't a pro, she was an abused wife.
@@MrElusive79 She was a pro. Her pimp bashed her.
Bea Smith has to be my favourite character & in a weird way l can't help but like Joan. Val & Maggie are both 2 very amazing actresses of all time. They both suited their characters well and always did outstanding job.
I love seeing both Bea & Joan's scenes 🙂. But l alway thought the characters Bea deserved a better ending than what she got.
But I loved the last episode- when we all see the freak getting what she deserves. The show sure went with a bang.
I heard that Maggie and Val actually got on really well together. I couldn't help but be surprised when I learned that because they've done an excellent job of convincing me that they hate each other.
Ꭿmanda Jonεs STOP GIVING THE STORY ENDING AWAY EVERYONE HAS NOT SEEN THE ENDING.
8:40 Snowy says its the middle of the night, but when Faye entered the shop, it was bright daylight.
Got to love the security at Wentworth. While an experienced instructor is teaching new recruits about security, a dangerous prisoner is free to roam into the prison warder staff room with no lock on the door, and do as she pleases! lol... So dysfunctional as usual!
I'm glad Jude slapped Lindy, I would have aswell.
The cop looking for Faye was also Toni McNally's lawyer and the repair man who sprayed the chemical's that burned Susie Driscoll. And the training officer is the guy who shot Margo's boyfriend and he replaced Ted Douglas as head of the department
The best escape so far well done Bea.
Brillient Bea ..looked the part"!!! :)
Hahaha I'm gonna miss Bea so much when she leaves :/
Lol. Snowy says it's the middle of the night when Faye calls him but it's clearly mid morning.
So Ferguson's uniform fit Bea like a glove, when Ferguson is a foot taller than her? What the hell? lol
That actress thats currently playing the next door neighbour to Judy is always involved in the halfway house storylines playing different characters.
1st she played Kevin Burns Mother who visited the 1st halfway house to tell Doreen she didn't improve of her, only to be chased away by Lizzie with a pot.
Then she welcomed Judy and Wally into the neighbourhood when Jude was just released.
Now she's Trevor's mam.
G quinn She was also Noeline’s mum.
Lol all the talk about security by the trainer and then he doesn't check his trainees as they leave. lolol
Faye isn't the smartest card in the deck is she!
You know we're gonna see Dor again when Lizzy receives a letter from her out of the blue.
No wonder Ferguson really believes that she is invincible because all this proof that she is bent and no one does a damn thing about it. It's so sickening to watch.
And how does Bea just walk out so easily? Not just out of a maximum security prison but through the hallways of the prison with an officer's uniform on and yet no one sees her? Lol come on!
Bea masterminded that escape admirably. It was one of my favourite moments of the entire series. Bea probably thinks she may as well grab her chance while the going is good because its obvious the others are following Nola now. They don't deserve Bea anymore and she's been wise enough to see it. The prison instructor played that swine who killed Margo's boyfriend during the shop siege sometime back. Could never forget such an obnoxious character as he was. Faye is absolutely hopeless, she really is as dumb as a stump......
Totally agree, them selfish cows did not deserve Bea!!
TheTHX1974 Faye was lovely shame it did not work out for her on the outside.
slick escape all carried out in 10 mins, love it
i really like that blue sweater on Colleen. ..even if she did just wear it recently lol
I wonder if this is a 'Psycho' reference (14.43) - Helen Smart: "Why look at him, he wouldn't even hurt a fly" (referring to Trevor who has a very overbearing Mother!)
David Ritchie that's what I thought when she said it....had to scroll down to see if anyone else noticed :)
I love it, the creepy Norman Bates kid. Also Bea looks just as convincing as she did the last time she wore the uniform. At the Christmas pantomime when she was dressed as Vera, hairbun and all.
Helen has a gorgeous face and eyes.
I remember when she was in Neighbours in the 1990s but she was rather plain by that time. Strange because you'd think she would have carried on being glamorous.
Amazing how Joan's uniform fits perfectly - and that there's only 1 pip, rather than 2 pips on the shoulder.
It must of been the one joan had when she arrived to wentworth? I don't know why she didn't just leave it at home if that's the one when she became a wentworth officer? 🤷
I must say Bea makes a good screw!!!
44:54 OMG, could u imagine the adrenaline pumpin through ur body, escaping from prison, go Bea.
Try watching this with the captions on, the subtitles are absolutely hilarious. For example Joan asks 'where do you think you're going McKenzie?' And the corresponding subtitle reads 'you think you're gay McKenzie' and when the policeman arrives at the halfway house looking for Faye Quinn, it reads on the subtitle 'is there a fake queen here?' 😆
Wish they were still available as they aren't now
Mrs Powell seems to be a bit more settled now - i guess she just needed a good todgering
william f I'm assuming todgering means fucking
😂😂😂💀
Bea looked so good as an officer
LOL, love those VCR's.
In 1982 and 1983 they were very fashionable. If you wanted to be with it, you had to have one in your house.
Just as well, because that’s the way technology works. They were cutting edge then, but don’t imagine that for one minute, today’s technology is the pinnacle. Maybe in forty years time some clever clogs will have a laugh at what we now consider to be cutting edge.
One thing I don't get is, if Bea was planning this escape before she knew about the trainee tour, how was she expecting to get out? The uniform itself wouldn't have been enough as she'd have had to present a pass at the gate, and the guard would definitely scrutinize her. So it was a bit convenient that she had that band of trainees to walk out with ....and how did she time it all so that she got outside as they were leaving? I'm also having trouble imagining how she got outside in the first place, uniform or not. You can't just walk out like that right? I know some are calling it a mastermind escape, but I think Bea's had quite a bit of a leg up with all this artistic license!
You may have a number of points except for one thing. You're being logical.
A lot of the escapes are ridiculous and wouldn't work in real life.
She actually wanted out of a certain storyline coming right up with a male posing as a woman and getting through the induction etc. She refused to have anything to do with it but she does appear in Sydney visiting Doreen and does eventuallly get caught and back to Wentworth.
The guy said It was the middle of the night when faye called but it was broad day when she opened the door
Can be light as early as 5-6am (depending on time of year) 'the middle of the night' is also used as an expression, meaning it's far too early and some people are still in bed
Tricky Nicky people are up at 5/6 in the morning middle of the night is 12-3am...Just pointing out one of the many comical inconsistencies no need to make a rebuttal
trust it is an editing error. there are plenty on this show
I loved this show. Gutted when it finished :(
Tricky Nicky I know but at least you can watch the newer version, Wentworth, its even on Netflix
Faye Quinn's exit is so overlooked. She is actually quite a likeable character and I wished they'd brought her back later.
I totally agree, I love Faye's character one of my faves.
She has a shakey start but i warm to her
I liked her well enough aside from her stupidity with having the recorders stolen from her workplace.
Aren’t you gonna say goodbye to Mrs.Powell?? Men!! She nailed that line!!
I wish they had let Bea stay on the run considering that Val left the show less than 50 episodes later.
Right on. With all the ending scenarios for a Top Dog of Bea Smith's calibre, they could have given her a more dignified and satisfactory one.
6:12 So the sun is up at 4 am in Melbourne? 11:00 What is Nola doing on the press and acting all 'top dog' like? Faye is a bird brain. 25:58 Love the suspenseful music. 28:40 What doesn't fit is all the 20 dollar notes in a prison. I would think the inmates illegal cash stash would be smaller bills. 35:20 "An instructor with a whole gaggle of baby screws." LMAO
Apparently Val Lehman auditioned for the role of screw when they were initially casting.
Very amusing that the trainee officer just handed a pile of their visitor passes to the security guard instead of making them actually wear them!!!
Oh Judy, not the flannel lumberjack shirt again.
Rest In Peace Eternal Darius Perkins “ Trevor” 🙏🏻❤️⭐️👍
That blond "baby screw" is Shane Monroe's dad!!!!!
He cleans up well!
I so LOVE Helens hair! So perfect!!
42:20 hahah, Bea looks just like the freak!
No Jude, Faye's more intrested in stealing VCR's. No wonder she doesn't have her son. Poor boy 🙁. He doesn't even know his Auntie and Uncle are raising him as their own son.
Faye is an idiot: she seems incapable of making one good decision!
A clever escape and classic episode ; But how did she get past the front desk or through the gates that locked the back of the kitchen to get out that way Those are the only ways out as far as I can see. Surely Po Face and the Freak were not the only officers on duty who would have recognised her.
She got through the warehouse entrance.
Bea's big escape ever the best.
Man, that Nola is enough to put anyone off their meat...Po face needs a hefty slap.
Joan hurry up dont want you hear while im eating lol fergo was scared bea
Lizzie stating that Doreen's never written before but a few episodes ago Bea mentioned Lizzie's last letter being from Doreen lol
Also when lizzie was making her will she said that to doreen she wud leave the letters she had wrote to her....
Did Bea just sniff The Freak's shoes?! Gross Bea!
What a great disguise and escape from Bea. She looks different with makeup on.
Good to see Powell getting a conscience and going back to Patrick where she belongs.
8:20 middle of the night??? What part of the continent is he in? It was broad daylight when Faye walked into the building!
+The High Priestess Exactly! Unless he's nocturnal but even then it was broad daylight.
Just when the series was starting to lose me, the ending pulled me right back in ! Damn!
Glad Colleen went back to her husband and children. I hope they make it work.
It was never explained how Bea got past reception without being challenged.
6.00 Lionel fellows , theres something about him I really like 😊Po,s hubby is so understanding ,bless
Oh.. Bea comes back lol.. And Nola and the Freak are waiting for her!!
08:58 WTF? Is Faye stupid or what? Just out of prison and commits another crime.
Would think a newly rebuilt prison would have less easily pried up shelves and accessible air vents for hiding things in...
6:10 - Wow - that' s fairly bright for 4am.
Disappointed with the Fay storyline now. It would have been much more interesting to continue with the development of her relationship with Billy.
30:20 - World's most convenient coincidence...
great ending
Really high tech video recorders where Faye works 🤣
THEY HAVE ALL THAT VIDEO EQUIPMENT BUT NO VIDEO CAMERAS TO KEEP ACTIVITIES OF ITS EMPLOYEES UNDER WATCH. THIS HAS TO BE FILMED IN THE SAME STUDIOS WITH WENTWORTH PRISON ON THE OTHER SIDE.ITS DEFINATELY GRUNDY VIDEO STUDIOS.
Notice that woman at 42:33 and that TRAINER fellow at 43:14 RESEMBLE each other? Just give her a moustache.
$1000 for a VCR. LOL. Another lifetime ago...
A movie set you back around $80 as well
And now they no longer exist
So I do have to ask where Bea was going when she went up those steps - remember there are two gates to get out of Wentworth
Hey, That instructor was the same bloke that questioned all the prisoners about Sharon Gillmores death.
How many roles did Lional Fellows play before he became Lional Fellows. I lost count.
The quietest table tennis ever.
Video machines were all the rage in the early 1980s, a bit like smartphones are today. My family first hired one in 1983, about a year after this was filmed. Most people hired them because they were so expensive to buy. Odd thing is that it had a remote control with a wire so it wasn't really a remote control; (the TV at the time did have a proper remote control using infrared beams or whatever they are). We didn't buy a video machine until 1996 or 1997 when the price had started to drop considerably.
5:59 "Ah,... Gaye Quinn, is that right?" Gaye Quinn? If there's a Gaye Quinn in this scene it's the wearer of that red whatever pants suit with the orange racing stripe down the sides of the arms. Not to mention that extremely Gaye Quinn beard. All he needs is a man purse and he's off to the (restroom of the) disco. Was that outfit actually sold in stores? And did someone actually buy it? The eighties were truly hilarious in many ways, some of which are often forgotten.
lol
Babs should have got a bigger role, she's acting her heart out with no lines, love Babs!
Love all the 1980s suspense music variants in this episode; some almost horror movie-like... And there's the classic when shit is about to go down: Dum.. dum-dum.. DUMMMMMM!! (cymbals)
Go bea, right out the front gate lol love it, dressed as the freak no less lol
I heard the producers originally had Val Lehman in mind to play Vera can see why watching this episode.
Ferguson's uniform. There is a obvious height difference. I wonder if the gloves are part of the costume
