This is absolutely amazing. The more I hear Michelle's music, the more I see how perfectly she and Cass blended, in a way that the Roches blend, like oboe/bassoon or violin/cello, very similar timbre, good range overlap, and a good hold on their own distinct ranges. I will never, ever get enough of the Mamas and the Papas.

Her voice is beautiful! She may not have been the powerhouse that Cass was but she still deserves her own credit. Especially when it comes to minor keys and harmonizing soprano, her tone just fits so well and is pleasing to listen to.

Not fair to compare her and Cass Elliot simply because the two had very different voices bonded together it was magic and then of course adding John Phillips with Denny Doherty John being the lead singer and Dennis being considered cross between a falsetto and a tenor this is one of the bands that had that Harmony that was just perfection said with all the respect in the world XOXO
Man, what a bad rap Michelle gets being labeled as just "the pretty one." She has a terrific voice. I realize Cass was a superstar, but it would have been nice if John would have given Michelle a few more opportunities to shine. It's a real loss.
He actually did, if you listen too dedicated too the one I love, that's Michelle singing lead and also the song string man , Michelle is singing for the first 2 minutes and 34, 40 seconds and Towards the end Cass comes in and takes the lead, it's not their best song. But it's the only one that you can make the difference of who is singing, and some of the best harmony in the business..

In the years between the M&Ps and this, I’d bet she worked hard developing her voice. She sounds very good here and of course was the prettiest girl in the world; but she couldn’t touch Cass as a singer. Few could!
She does a lovely job with this. I would imagine learning to harmonize in The Mamas and the Papas really helped her shape her own sound and delivery. It's too bad we didn't hear more from her as a solo artist.

However Michelle did shine brilliantly when she partly took the lead vocal with- dedicated to the one I love, what a beautiful song that was, Michelle proved she was not just a pretty face however once the group disbanded she was never really given the opportunity to shine in her own right because the songs that came her way were really dreadful, so she just faded away. However she was in a band that made its mark in the 60's, I am sure she can be very proud of this fact.

Michelle never had any intentions of making a career as a solo artist. She pursued an acting career. Yet, she did do a few things. I like that, at least, we have one solo album from her. And we sort of have another album's worth of songs. John intended to produce her solo album. They initially worked on a batch of songs, but because of his addiction and/or other issues, he was unable to follow through with it. Some of the songs they initially recorded were re-recorded/re-worked for her album, and new songs were added. Leftovers from the project were John's initial recordings, as well as numerous outtakes, some of them quite stunning. Thankfully her album and those leftovers resurfaced on the compilation album Victim of Romance & Rarities CD.

wow... what a beautiful song this is_ well arranged, and just right for her voice_ she is pure class. The initial feeling I got from this was, after her mega-success with Mamas&Papas, Michelle just didnt need another career win. Its just talent being exuded. There is a lot of emotion apparent here though... the band, and her marriage had both just ended in tragedy, but she shines so bravely in this number_ [sniff]_ 40 years ago even.
