I’m 25 and not a lot of celebrity deaths have impacted me, but hers really did. I didn’t have a happy childhood and her role as Misty and Jessie was something I really cherished. She made so many people happy when she was alive.
While Ash doesn't develop that much over the course of his whole journey, I think it is worthwhile to mention how Ash was handled in Hoenn and Sinnoh. In Hoenn, Ash became somewhat of a mentor to May because of his experience as a Pokémon trainer, and he became quite arrogant at times because of his experience through Kanto and Johto (which sometimes really bit him from behind like his battle against Elite Four Drake), and he was still somewhat cocky. This arrogance and cockyness of Ash was something Ash then grew out of during Hoenn, and by the time of the Battle Frontier Ash had stabilised as a character when it came to his personality and values. This more stable version of Ash would then be tested by Paul in the Sinnoh region, who represented the complete opposite of Ash's character and values
Always loved the Ash is how you play Pokémon at 10 vs Paul is how you play Pokémon at 15 dichotomy. Granted I also might just be nostalgic for the era of that show from when I started watching it/playing the games.
The thing with Ash's development is that, he develops more subtly from season to season. That's because the core traits that define him are the traits that the anime wants to reaffirm that makes Ash special and gives him an edge as a trainer. Throughout the entire OG anime, Ash has been strongly defined by his determination, hard work ethic, his creativity in battle, his strong ambition and passion for Pokemon battles and most importantly, his love and incredible empathy towards Pokemon. It is the more subtle negative traits that change as Ash matures through the series. His mean-spiritedness and stubbornness are gone by Advanced, his overconfidence quelled by Diamond and Pearl, he kinda regresses in terms of skill in Black and White but he doesn't have the meanness, though he has the overconfidence again. In X and Y, he isn't bothered by small issues and has more patience than in the past, as well as a more concrete plan to make the league and in Sun and Moon, he learns to be embrace more of himself, even if it's perceived as immature. Perception no longer bothers him, and he not only focuses on his own goals, but helping his friends on their goals as well as a supporter. In Journey's, he becomes more of an emotional support for his friends than before (mostly for Goh) and actively cheers them up when they're sad.
The only thing I'm going to add that you should have brought up is this: Jessie and James should refrain from their whole motto for most, if not all, of Johto and maybe even ditch their old Team Rocket uniforms (at the very least, they have to drop it by Johto season 2). Right up until they show up to fight Butch and Cassidy in the red Gyarados arc. And then when all hope seems lost for our main heroes, you just hear, "Prepare for trouble! And make it double! To protect the world from devastation. To unite all peoples within our nation. To denounce the evils of truth and love. To extend our reach to the stars above. Jessie! James! Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light. Surrender now or prepare to fight! Meowth that's right!" And then you see them in their old, iconic Team Rocket uniforms. Maybe they used them to sneak in undetected and sabotage Butch and Cassidy's plans. Maybe you can change "denounce the evils of truth and love," to something like, "to protect the goodness of truth and love," to reflect their character arc. I don't think I'd do that, just to have the iconic version in it's pure, distilled glory
"Protect the VIRTUES of truth and love" My personal opinion, that word switch makes the line easier to say AND makes it sound a little less corny. But that's my opinion.
The original head writer,Takeshi Shudo, who left partway through season 5 wanted the series to eventually go in a darker direction where there would be a Spartacus-like Pokemon rebellion led by Pikachu against the humans and the series ends with Ash dying of old age reminiscing on his journey.
this interview is lost to time, but i am almost certain he said this as a joke and it just got lapped up by journalists and spun into an actual fact. theres no way any sane person would think, even for a second, that that idea would take off.
@@draculemihawk8844 Weird to assume people with alcohol and drug abuse problems aren't "sane". Pretty ableist, actually. The guy was really good at writing stories, and this is not a good story idea. I have no way of proving anything, but personally I subscribe to the idea that this was never truly an idea, and something he thought up as a joke. It's very reminscent of Japanese humour too.
@@joj5150 idk if anything I think it's more ableist to think of being insane as a bad thing. All geniuses are a little insane. Regardless, I doubt it was a joke considering the themes of "coexistence" and "the existence of self" he wanted to explore in that ending were pretty par for the course for how he had been writing the series, especially with Mewtwo Strikes Back and The Power of One, as well as in previous shows he'd written for like Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Even the very final episode he worked on tackled those themes with a cult dedicated to helping people discover their life's purpose.
I like the idea of Ash's journey being confined to the original series era. It makes sense, and would be more satisfying for the people who started watching Pokemon on day one and wanted to see a definitive beginning and end for Ash. I just wanna share my perspective on the way I viewed the anime and Ash's overall journey, because I think there was some merit to having it structured the way it was. I briefly touched on my thoughts in a livestream comment, but now that there's no word limit I can expand on my thoughts and feelings. For context, I grew up on the Diamond and Pearl anime, but I also had plenty of VHS tapes of movies and episodes from the original series, and managed to see reruns of Advanced on cable. From the original series to Diamond & Pearl, Ash was progressively getting wiser, more patient, and becoming a better trainer. All while maintaining the same upbeat attitude everyone knows and loves. He went from being a rookie that needed constant advice, to a competent trainer who can stand on his own, to being good enough to show other people the ropes. Even though each generation was a reset, it still felt like Ash was growing up. It felt like one long coming of age story. One that could be enjoyed by multiple generations of people. In my opinion, the best way to rewrite the anime would be by having Ash and his companions get one year older after every region so the feeling of growth is more apparent, and by rewriting the Black & White anime to fit in with the chain that the first four series created, as well as bridge the gap between Diamond & Pearl and XY. The Black & White anime could've even made the infamous Tobias loss be a good thing by having that inspire Ash to bond with either Reshiram or Zekrom like the player in the games does. And Ash could lose the League again by releasing Reshiram/Zekrom because he wants to be better than Tobias and win the League fairly and honorably. And like the previous loss, this loss would foreshadow the next series by setting up the idea of Ash getting legendary levels of power in his own way, with Ash-Greninja. The Pokemon anime really did have the potential to be one long fully connected and satisfying story. It just needed a few tweaks here and there to make it whole. And one more thing. I think it's beautiful how multiple generations of people were able to grow up and identify with Ash. Parents and children, or older siblings and younger siblings, were able to bond over Ash because no matter how big the gap between their ages or generations was, both sides knew who Ash was, and what it feels like to love Pokemon. The older generations can teach the younger ones about Misty, Brock, Charizard, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and everything else there is to love, but vice versa the younger generations can also teach the older ones about things that they may have missed out on as they grew up and out of Pokemon. My siblings are more than twice my age, and even they ran into the living room like kids when we heard Pikachu's voice come from the TV. I was 13, and Kalos Quest/XYZ was the current season at the time. It was fun sharing this version of Pokemon with them. It was cool seeing the look on their faces, the look that shows they recognize Ash and Pikachu and the world of Pokemon and are nostalgically loving it, but the look that also shows that they are unfamiliar with this iteration and are genuinely fascinated by the new things that they are just now being introduced to. It's fun to share and compare the differences between each iteration of Ash and his companions and teams, and to bond over Ash no matter what year it is or what the current status quo of the anime was. And the fact that all of the experiences and stories in the Pokemon anime happened to one single protagonist makes Ash one of the most iconic figures ever. He's every Pokemon game protagonist rolled into one, and more. Ash is us
No one wasted time on that. You clearly missed the point of pokemon. It was to advertise new pokemon. Having a rookie suddenly be champion is stupid. And why should anyone care if they changed characters? Goku went YEARS as a protagonist and he even retook as sole protagonist in super. You don’t see naruto giving the story to sasuke or shino. Whether you like it or not the original anime was a series it took for Ash to take the first step in accomplishing his dream. That’s why everyone he meets has dreams to encourage kids to chase them. These are aimed at kids. Not bitter teens or bitter adults.
@@DarkEclipse2325 years is far from "sudden". And in case it wasn't obvious, I was saying that Ash is special BECAUSE he never left the show. You are literally arguing my own point at me by bringing up how Goku and Naruto stayed as the main character of their respective shows instead of being replaced. Ash is special because instead of doing what the games did and replace him with a new main character, the anime kept him for everything. Which made it so every wonderful story and experience that ever happened was specifically a part of him and his journey. That is why Ash has a legacy all over the world that spans over the course of literal real world generations. The only bitter person here is you, because you can't see that this generational experience appeals to more than just kids, and you see any form of deeper perspective or appreciation about it as "bitterness" from older people.
Someone probably mentioned already, but that is basically how the main pokemon manga, the Pokemon Special, works. After each arc the main protagonist changes (all named after the games, so Red, Yellow, Gold, etc), but the old protagonists still exist and often play a role as older and wiser.
If I could rewrite the anime, I'd give Brock more of a mentor role. Brock, as a gym leader, should have definitely been more of a mentor to Ash. He could teach him the ins and outs of training and battling, and Ash would start to really improve after his first go at the indigo league. Ash would lose his first attempt at the league, learn from what he did wrong, spend the whole year growing, learning and gaining more experience until he takes another crack at the league and wins. Ash would be given champion status after his final battle against Gary. But it's not over yet, now Giovanni wants a crack at the new champion, sending ALL of Team Rocket after him and his friends until Ash and his friends battle their way to the top and face off against Giovanni and his super powerful pokemon for the big finale of the anime.
That last section where you described the scene of Ho-Oh landing by Ash with Ritchie standing by Lugia was literally perfect. I cannot imagine the awe I would've felt if I saw the culmination of Ash's journey leading up to that moment, because of all the legendaries that truly *felt* special, Ho-Oh and Lugia were the ultimate symbols of that.
Ritchie with Lugia is perfect because it not only shows him surpassing Ash, it shows him surpassing Misty & Brock by commanding the strongest water-type at the time and managing to breed the legendary
While I wasn't much of a Yu-Gi-Oh guy outside of 5D's, something I wish the Pokemon anime did was change its protagonist with each generation. Ash worked for Kanto and Johto, but I think the anime's legacy would've been more interesting if Hoenn onward had a different protagonist and set of characters. I had the unfortunate experience of growing up with the Diamond and Pearl anime, not because it was bad, but because I got to experience the bullshit that was Ash losing the Pokemon League due to Tobias and his stupid Darkrai. After that, it kinda killed my enthusiasm for the anime, so knowing that it took Ash 20-some years to finally win the League was nice to hear, even if it was a little too late in my case.
Besides why the fuck would anyone watch a series if they changed protags every season? If there’s a new protag theres literally no point to keep tuning in.
@@DarkEclipse23 Yu-Gi-Oh, JJBA, AHS, Fargo, etc. all seemed to manage it fine. People tune into those in droves. I guess you could count Avatar too Plus per-episode anthologies like Black Mirror and Love, Death + Robots Doctor Who is canonically the same "person" but it's essentially a brand new character / portrayal each regeneration
Id disagree on replacing Lawrence. Him just wanting to collect the legends is awesome. It relates to the feelings a lot of players had but the cold and disinterested way he does it could play against the message of putting in the work and forming bonds with pokemon. And he can still be a recurring threat in the background of the season. All these unique pokemon that only exist in the islands could be getting picked off one by one after the main crew has already passed through.
I think the only thing I'd add at this moment is giving Leaf a character arc, and making her more of an essential part of Jessie and James's arcs in Johto. In particular, I'd make it so that her parents were divorced, and her mother was part of Team Rocket, while her father was a wealthy businessman who took no part in raising Leaf, leaving it to her mother. Leaf really loved her mother, who had only joined Team Rocket as a last resort, since, after her disastrous divorce from from her husband, he went on to slander her name in the work sphere and made it completely impossible for her to get a job. Then, her mother was sent on a mission not dissimilar from Jessie's mother, either as a follow-up to find Mew or maybe to find the Legendary Dogs/Ho-Oh. She was then taken in by her father, who, in absence of any desire to parent, tried to turn her into an affluential businessman like him. She hated it, and hated him, and so when she was able to, she snuck out and got her Pokemon license, then ran to Oak to get her Bulbasaur and disappeared onto her journey, looking to take down Team Rocket in revenge for her mother. This could be used to explain why she appears only briefly and then runs off after Team Rocket's dealt with; she can't stay in the same place too long, or else her dad could catch up. This can make it so that if she ties into Jessie and James's redemption arcs more, she relates to both of them, and serves as a moral center to help steer them away from Team Rocket's conditioning, serving as a rock for both of them, and maybe even ending up like a little sister figure. In this way, perhaps her father does find her near the end of Johto, but challenges him to a Pokemon battle for the right to keep going on her own journey. With Meowth's help, she defeats him, and ends her arc in a satisfying way. She could also reappear in the hypothetical sixth season, as a kind of mentor figure to Brendon/May, perhaps helping them with their first encounters with Team Aqua and Magma, like a "don't worry, I've done this before" type thing. Eventually she would bow out and Steven would take her place, but it could be a nice way for her to cameo even after her arc's finished.
It literally did grow up with its audience though. In fact, XY was the only one that didn't and hoped childish edge lord teens would like its disrespectful nature and regression
huge fan of fan rewrites like this! ive always wished the past regions affected Ash and the other characters more throughout the main series. journeys was a step in the right direction, but that's cuz it was the end lol
@@DarkEclipse23 Huh? I think Liko's journey is more unique. Though it does have a bit too much comfiness at first, there's more uncertainty after the Volt Tackler's ship goes down.
@@matt0044 I like how they make the new hero of the Pokémon anime practically Ash's opposite. Ash was very extroverted, determined, and knew exactly what he wanted to be, while Liko is introverted, shy, and not so sure of herself.
Too bad it's hardly being talked about no thanks to Netflix's binge watching strategy. Either that or Ash staying as the MC was what really kept the anime in the public eye for a long time.
@@DarkEclipse23 What's lame and directionless is running Ash's story to the ground by not letting his story end and keep him doing the same thing over and over again which IS the case in every Pokemon anime season until Sun and Moon.
also i liked that the bad guy of the 2cd movie had the same motivations that the franchise pushed onto audience. what happens when you let "Gotta Catch 'em All" effect the way you treat the pokemon you share the world with. a bit of conclusion to the message that started with rescuing the abandoned Charmander
"Jessie, James, and Meowth should not be in every single episode." Dude, that's not even controversial - or at least it shouldn't be! I'd much rather save Team Rocket's appearances for more significant stories (ala Go West Young Meowth, Ignorance is Blissey, Sweet Baby James, etc) than have them dick around in every filler only to get blasted off in the next four seconds.
It is kinda is though because through them showing them up in the filler episodes it allowed us to get a better view of their characters which made those significant episodes you mentioned stand out more as it gives a more deeper look into them as people
@@8ball180 But not every single fucking episode dude. There were times where they absolutely ruined parts of the story. Like how they literally sabotaged Ash’s match with Ritchie in the Indigo League or cockblocked his match with Misty.
@@rhondahoward8025 obviously not every episode but not every episode with them needs to be significant either. Just enough appearances to get a good grasp of their characters before we do those deeper episodes
So with Brock, I feel it would make more sense for him to realize misty and ash have no clue how to survive out in the wild and that’s when his empathy toward them has him join their journey. He can teach them how to cook and how to setup a camp to have it ward off Pokémon. (Oh wait this is senshi, oops) It’s on this adventure, he learns he no longer likes being a gym leader (something he only took up to support his brothers and sisters) and becomes a breeder, possibly while assisting with togepi, having to be the adult and researching and creating a very different diet for the non native Pokémon.
Haven't even finished the video yet, but the idea to take the other trainers from Pallet Town and make them characters Ash meets on his journey is genuinely brilliant. The three empty pokeballs in Oak's lab feel like they *should* be foreshadowing, I can't believe this wasn't actually part of the original show.
I love so much of this. I do have a couple of revisions and additions myself tho. 1. I actually really like Tracey and I think he should be in this rewrite and there's an easy way to do it. Make him and Todd brothers. You can have the two work off each other on their different ideas of Pokémon Art and can have them alternate whose there with Ash and Misty based on the events of the episode with them both being there for Power of One and Drake. 2. A minor update to the 3rd Movie I feel should be to add some additional pathos to Ash relating to Molly over a missing parent in their life to serve as a foreshadow to M5. 3. Silver needs to have some moment with Ash at the Silver Conference after M5 where the 2 can relate to their complicated fathers and serve as a capstone to Silver's Arc and Catharsis for Ash. 4. Give Ash and Pikachu a moment after encountering Ritchie and Lugia where we see he still has the Thunderstone from Kanto and he has to confront his insecurities and inadequacy. 5. Tighten up the Ash/Misty arc by creating additional parallels and connections. In Movie 4, have a moment where Ash throws himself in danger to save Misty on instinct in the same way Misty did in Power of One. During Movie 5, give Ash a moment of weakness at the end where he breaks down in private with Delia and Misty to comfort him, showing Misty as one of the only people Ash is comfortable being weak around. Finally, in the timeskip where Ash heads off into the Unknown, make it clear they're still together. Have a cute moment where Misty tells Ash He's buying her dinner when he gets back. Just some thoughts.
I liked what you shared a lot, I think one thing I wish you spoke on more were the Pokemon themselves; one of the greatest pleasures of the anime for me is seeing the core cast's teams develop, and what kind of personalities they'll bring in tow. I also feel like certain aspects of Ash's journey could be expanded on in different ways using each pokemon, maybe having them influence each other more overtly, stuff like that. Of course, given the scope of what you've laid out, that would be a total nightmare to lay out for every character, but that's just me. Some thoughts I had for what could have been done with Ash's pokemon; - Pidgeotto I think would've been fine if Ash just battled it, maybe had an episode centered around it. It doesnt really contribute much to Ash's journey and I think it may be better served as a familiar face that returns later, like the Samurai or Richie. - Ash catches a LOT of pokemon in Kanto (the most in any region even if you exclude the 30 Tauros iirc), and yet not a lot of them get use throughout the story; mons like Kingler, Muk and one of many Tauros only getting use in League matches. I think it'd be good if as Ash traveled, he rotated through his team more often, coming to grips with a variety of different fighting styles and type combinations to build off of what he learned against Brock. Keeping mons like Primeape and Haunter would also be good for him due to the type variety. - It would also be interesting if Ash did not get a Johto starter in his second journey; not only letting the new characters like Jimmy and Silver use them, but also showcasing new Pokemon that have types that would give him more options in a battle. For example, he could catch a Murkrow as a dark type, Piloswine as an ice and ground type, Xatu for psychic, etc. - I think perhaps most importantly, letting Pikachu grow alongside Ash would be vital. I think his lack of presence in this pitch is my one big gripe with it; he is just a pokemon, but he's also Ash's most steadfast companion and has room to grow alongside him, perhaps as a leader to the other Pokemon or even being Ash's ace against disadvantageous matchups because they're so in sync. Overall I really like that you made this video though, it was a really interesting thought experiment and I would love to see you do this again for other regions. Take care!
I think that while having ice Pokémon be able to flourish because of Articuno in the tropical Orange Islands is a cool interesting idea I think there could be a bit more thought out approach to it. I could see a whole rainy weather system happening just on accident thanks to a couple of powerful Pokémon rapidly heating and cooling the region they fly over with Zapdos going from storm to storm because it enjoys that kind of weather creating more powerful tropical storms wherever it shows up. Perhaps there could still be separate islands where each one lives and on Articuno's island it would be unusually snowy with ice types flourishing there and some water ice types sometimes showing up on other islands. Then you can have Lugia hiding deep in the sea only coming up to sort out any fights that break out with the bird trio and keeping the waters from getting too out of hand in certain storms, stuff like that.
Aside from filler episodes I think the continuity was pretty strong up until the end of DP, with past events being referenced and every series ending with Ash traveling to the next region. Once they got to BW the did a hard reset on Ash and didn't start reference anything from the past until towards the end when they got desperate for ratings. XY was the worst series when it came to continuity but it had cool battles so people didn't care. SM and Journeys had more references to past events but Ash felt like a completely different character personality wise.
BW did no such thing though. And Ash grew a lot, and SM reverted the regression in XY so he def feels a lot different going from one to the next. Also there is no filler. That's not a thing.
Part of why Ash never ages is because Japanese media directed towards young boys tends to typically always have a character that said young boys are able to relate to and place themselves in the shoes of. Dragon Ball has a similar phenomenon where you start with Kid Goku, then when he grows up Gohan is introduced, and after he grows up Goten and Trunks are introduced, and after they grow up Uub is introduced. They either had to keep Ash young or replace Ash, the latter of which they clearly didn’t want to do for a long time seeing as how popular and iconic Ash was.
I am still some what dissapointed that either some but not all of Ash's or other trainers Pokemon haven't fully evolved. like if I rewrote the series, I would let both Squirtle and Bulbasaur evolve to their final stages during the anime, same goes to the many other pokemon that Ash didn't even evolve.
Random idea to throw in. Agatha is a ghost trainer right? Maybe her and Oak worked together but drifted apart. Him focusing on science and technology while she focused on spirits and the supernatural
If you wanna touch this up again, I'd recommend hitting Suede up. He's gone through most of Johto at this point, and could probably give you some ideas of how it could have happened.
This was great! I really liked your ideas on Brock joining Ash, because he admired his genuine love for Pokemon. Or Giovanni capturing and controlling Mewtwo: having huge impacts on the world, which the heroes stumble upon throughout their journey. Also Todd joining the team, and the whole finale with different arcs, the elite 4 implemented into the story. All exciting stuff! Something I thought of was ... regarding Pokemon 2000: What if Giovanni wanted to capture the legendary birds, but Lawrence III was faster? We got the same plot of the movie (I just love that movie too much to change things from it xD) but: Giovanni, now through bad press from that whole Mewtwo debacle and being outrun by that random rich guy Lawrence, changes his tactics ... He heard that Jessie, James and Meowth betrayed him, but for the press he states, the Team Rocket Grunts helping safe the world, were in fact under his order. Thus turning their opposing endeavors into his own achievement. And with that he gains trust and reputation from the public. And now it is for Ash and company to live in that world, were it means "in Team Rocket we trust". They gotta stop them from their ordeals and convince the world of their wrongdoings, exposing Giovanni once and for all. You are so right: It really is a great debate to have! Changing the story, shipping characters and all that. That was a great call to action of yours! :D One could argue over that for hours on end ^^
This was a VERY WELL DONE and compelling rewrite Ant. The lack of real character development and a proper threat/endgame was a major sore spot on the first Season of Pokémon, even back in the day (Is why I remember Digimon and Pokémon much more vividly). To see Ash, Misty and Brock grow is what I always wanted, not to mention making the movies matter! Thank you! And making the games more relevant in tándem with the anime! Good job! (Only thing missing was making clear all of Ash's Pokémon fully evolve) And thank you for the Ash x Misty shipping that's much appreciated. PS: Also Ant, and I apologize for this... They are the Legendary BEASTS. Have you seen them? They are friggin cats! Entei is a lion, Raikou is a Tiger and Suicune is a leopard! Sweet Arceus!
One thing to touch up here is...well, I dunno if you mentioned this, but there's little mention as to why Leaf wants to take down Team Rocket. She seems to have a personal vendetta against them. Maybe take something out of Pedro's show that TR kidnapped her from the orphanage she was in. However, while in Team Rocket, well, before she escaped, she made friends with Silver, which would payoff in Pokemon 4Ever, which she should've been in, to help convince Silver to stop trying to appease his father. Also, she steals one of Prof Oak's starters he was gonna give to Ash, Gary, and Ritchie cuz...I thought it was messed up of him that he doesn't have Pokemon for each trainer, even if Ash was late. Still messed up of him...
The funniest thing about Green/Leaf is that my only experience with her so far is Let’s Go. Let me tell you, seeing someone toss Pokéballs at me and wondering why they can’t catch me was pretty hilarious. Like why did they take a main series protagonist and randomly make her insane? 😂
I might just be a fan of Whitney, but I think she could be an interesting addition to Jimmy's group. As you said she could be schooled by Misty for having aome attitude problems, so it could be a thing that the trainer that comes after Ash beating her down coule have her decide to tag along. An idea, Jimmy loses to her, and she sees that he doesn't have a tantrum like she did, and so has an "I teach you" and "you teach me" moment. She could fit the role of a strong but flawed member of the group. Her story could culminate when Claire refuses to give a badge.
I loved this video and its idea so much! I think, Ash could lose in the last battle with Richie to be in a similar position to the one, his father was in, when he did not become the master he went out to become. Ash could be shown outgrowing his father explicitly by having reached farer in terms of championship and also by being able to deal with a hurtful defeat in a sensible way, that might still shape his future, but not his personality, because Ash found value in himself that is not tied to him winning matches. Anyway, I specifically loved the idea that we get to know the people that start their journey with Ash and that we will meet them regularly. And I love the idea that Team Rocket (the trio) will be the heros in the end!
I was legit upset when he gave away Primape. We gotta give it back to him. I also want the idea from other media Dahlia used to work for Team Rocket and is therefore more scared for Ash’s safety. She obviously quit because she is not evil.
I can see all the follow up Region/Seasons now... Hoenn group consisting of May, Max, Brenden and Brock. The children of a Gym Leader wanting to be a Contest Star and a Scientist, the child of a Scientist wanting to be a Gym Leader/Champion. Brock following up on his research and dreams by travelling to a new land, meeting Birch and becoming the groups Powerhouse/Mentor, offering advice as an Ex Gym Leader to Brenden and relating to May and Max with their absentee Gym Leader Parents, as well as helping Max learn all about becoming a better Researcher. Since Max isn't old enough to have a Pokemon and we need the obligatory 3rd battler on the team Brock can also fit that role. Wally being inspired by Norman and helped by May to catch his Ralts, and then becoming more fired up and ambitious with his rivalry with Brenden, he can pop up every few number of episodes or around every milestone for the group to battle Brenden to see his progress. Sounds fun. Sinnoh I do kinda want Ash back for this part filling in the Brock role, being experienced and more mature, maybe wanting pull a Nemona and go on just one more adventure with a fresh start before his responsibilities as a growing boy catch up to him. Dawn and Barry being the focus characters and rivals, both with the same combative and impulsive personalities as in the show, they are a duo of enablers that have to learn to chill out and take time to focus, be responsible, and enjoy themselves. Dawn and her drive to make her mother proud in the same field she was world famous in is the main focus of this story, and Barry and Lucas should have a rivalry, Lucas is very calm and collected and gets irked by Barry's particular level of impatience, and as Prof. Rowans (known history of being a fierce battlers) Assistant isn't wet noodle when it comes to battling, and can randomly be seen around the region doing side jobs for Rowan. (I saw a fun little video recently about Barry having a Munchlax(one of the most rare and tedious Pokemon to catch in the whole franchise), maybe we can add further fuel to this rivalry by having Lucas malding over the fact Barry randomly stumbled into one). I want the Ash/Paul rivalry to still exist, and to make explicit remarks to Charizard's past. I want Barry to start with Turtwig and to rip out Ash's arc with having to learn to deal with the once speedy Turtwig suddenly have to play into the slow tank build and let it be an important character development challenge for Barry Unova, uhhh, Iris and Cilan still of course... uhhhh, I never watched this series. I want it to take place inbetween what would be BW/BW2, after the first Gym is taken over by Cheren so the triplets have to find their own way in life. Have a casual rivalry between Cilan and his brothers. Have Hilda/Hilbert be some strange elusory figure that left an inspirational mark on the lives of many characters from the first game, such as the POV characters. I don't really know what else to add here tbh Kalos it'd be cool if we do have a sort of rotating main cast out of the 5 from the group in the game, maybe every major city they plan to regroup, take part in important story moments, and then split into 2 parties yet again, maybe pull straws to see who's in which group. Maybe we stay in looking from 1 perspective, maybe we get to see the story from both groups perspective. Trevor isn't too strong with battles but since his goal is to catch as many pokemon as possible maybe he can be the problem solver, always having just the right pokemon for the job, Tierno wants to take part in the artistic side of pokemon so he'll be helping us get a look into all the "bonus content" type stuff, Shauna's all about making strong connections with pokemon so she should have some of the complicated evolutions and stuff, Calem is the resident battler dude, I like the scene where Ash jumps off the lighthouse to save Pikachu and I still want it, so Calem with have whatever Reckless/Protective personality traits that'll allow that scene to happen. Serena should be unsure of what she wants to do, maybe loves every aspect of pokemon so much she's overwhelmed OR struggles to have as much passion as her friends do and is maybe insecure about that. Also I want May and Max to return, literally just because their names are the same other than the X and Y lmao. Maybe Max is finally old enough to have his own Pokemon, but has already been on a journey around Hoenn so he wants to go somewhere else, May goes with him as the responsible protector but when he meets the new group and becomes friends with them he joins the group and makes it 6 (now the 2 parties will be even yay), and then May kinda just does her own thing like she's on holiday and might pop up now and then. Hell maybe Max gets the dangerous Lighthouse jumping scene since he's so desperate to have his own pokemon but immediately almost gets it killed, but we've had a lot of Reckless Battler tropes so far so it'd be cool to have Calem stand out (maybe incorporate that whole story with Alan/Alain/the Mega Charizard dude with Calem, make them brothers since they look so similar I guess idk) Alola should all be pretty self explanatory I never even played gen 8 so I could not possibly give less of a shit and then keep gen 9 the way it is now I guess
rewriting the Three Legendary Beast arc would open an opportunity to clarify that the pokemon bases on Lions Tigers and Leopards are the three legendary CATS, NYOT DOGS
Great rewrite! I love that you didn't just go with all the most common fan theories. And your versions of Brock and Misty are a big improvement. I've watched nearly every episode, and read a lot of fanfics (and written some too). I do think that since we're doing a rewrite in retrospect of the entire anime, it would be nice to take ideas from the other series that worked well. But if I was doing a full rewrite I'd probably end up going way past the original 5 seasons lol. Or maybe try to condense all of Ash's journey into 5 seasons somehow... There's just too much I'd still want Ash to do, and relationships I wouldn't want to take out of the show. Maybe some series could focus on other characters, like gen 3 to gen 6 could definitely have been more focused on the other characters and their goals, even if Ash was still appearing in some episodes and movies (he'd still be good friends with everyone). Then Sun and Moon goes back to focusing on Ash as he becomes regional champion and his familial relationship with Kukui and Burnet, and then Journeys with him becoming world champion and his friendship with Goh. And I'd take out the 11 episode epilogue, he should spend the entirety of Journeys thinking about what being a Pokemon master means (instead of just the very last episode) as he becomes friends with lots of Pokemon, which reinforces that that's what he loves.
Great video, i'm always intrigued to hear how people would rewrite the Original anime given how Iconic yet REALLY messy it is. As an Add on to Misty's character arc, i feel like her Psyduck should have evolved and gone through a Charizard-like arc, where it basically ignores misty and gives her the cold shoulder for all the times she mistreated him. Maybe even borrow from the Golduck from "Bye Bye, Psyduck" and have Misty's Golduck constantly show off to other trainers just to piss off Misty. Basically this will allow her to reflect how she treated Psyduck and own up to her mistakes. Even find a bit of a kinship with Ash's Charizard as Pokemon who have a falling out with their trainers(Maybe they both become Rivals with something in common they can bond with, or have charizard teach golduck to possible find it in his heart to forgive Misty). Also i have one minor Gripe with your video, and this is a minor pet peeve of mine, you calling Raikou, Entei, and Suicune dogs even though they have literally been confirmed by Muneo Saitō to be based on Big Cats. Suicune's a Leopard, Entei's a Lion, and Raikou's a Tiger. Even if we didn't get that confirmation, What is kind of Dog is Raikou supposed to be?
So, I am in the middle of the indigo league portion of the vid right now, but I have to say your rewrite is really convincing (better word would interesting me but details) me so far.
In all honesty, while I do prefer Sinnoh as an ending point for Ash, this was marvelously handled, and I see the vision in ending Ash's journey in the region where he beat Gary, and what is essentially Kanto's other half.
I remember Suede mentioning in his Pokémon analysis a concept of Misty’s Psyduck actually evolving into a Golduck & starts ignoring her because of how she treated him (similar to Ash & Charizard), so maybe that could be another opportunity to push Misty’s arc since she realizes that her actions have consequences Also, would Team Rocket’s Delibird appear under Butch & Cassidy’s branch?
Im excited for a potential Black and White rewrite with: + Hilbert and/or Hilda as the main heroes +Cheren and Bianca as their Companions +Team Plasma having an earlier role +N as the main rival I think the Biggest challenge is that gen 5 is not just one story istead is a story with sequel. Which is what team plasma from the original anime suffered with.
For all the criticism the G5 anime got it did a lot right. Like repeatedly reusing established characters instead of just throwing them to the wayside...not to mention the love and attention Team Rocket got.
I had a similar idea a while back. In my version Bulbasaur & Squirtle actually evolve (fully) over time, Gary doesn't lose in the Indigo league so early and ends up in the final round, and Ash ends up winning the league (Gary takes over Viridian gym for being runner up). After that, Ash takes on the Elite 4 and after winning hooks up with Misty before heading to Mt. Silver while instructing Brock & Misty to find someone who can one day challenge him.
I think it would be fun if Ash's dad was like Gons dad in HxH, he actually captured Ho oh and used it to check in on Ash and in some ways lead him to him. And by the end the two face off in a final battle
Introducing a Gold counterpart as a secondary protagonist is a great idea, not only for establishing Ash's growth as a mentor figure, but also as a stealth way to get the general audience used to the idea of a new protagonist, and gently set up a future without him. If I were to be critical I don’t think you have given Jessie, James and Meowth enough to do for the Johto arc. They seem pretty aimless, only showing up when it’s related to supporting Ash's arc. They’ve already agreed to break away from Team Rocket, so what are they doing in between the start of Johto and that movie 2 seasons later where they culminate their arc by.,… uh doing what they had already done before in opposing Team Rocket.
I'd love to see cassady and botch appear sometimes instead of team rocket, as well as just nameless rocket grunts. it would shake things up in a much needed way. I'd also like to see how garys team evolved and changed throughout his journey rather than just short glimpses. As far as team rocket doing terrible things, I would actually like to see them succeed at stealing one of ash or brocks pokemon. it would cement them as a threat that isn't playing around and the pokemon can be rescued later. and maybe have them be after the legendary birds as well. "Tracy no longer exists" I'm in.
Pretty good video on the anime. NGL, I thought you had some good ideas. In addition, Pokemon was actually one of the first 6 anime I ever watched (The other 5 were Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Macross Plus, Mobile Suit Gundam & Beyblade).
I forgot that the villain in the three bird movie was only a collector. Yeah I love Pokemon but I always enjoyed Digimon anime more because the original characters grew up and the newer ones still had connections back to the original set even though Digimon had a bunch of abandoned plots (looking at you dark ocean digimon and Kari.)
My favourite part about Ash being perpetually 10 years old, is that there are multiple references to birthdays and other annual holidays. There's even an episode where Ash celebrates his 1-year anniversary of meeting Pikachu. And yet, in the first episode of the Unova series, the narrator explicitly introduces Ash as being 10 years old. So arguably, it is actually canon that Ash has been 10 years old for multiple years.
Small thought-- abandoning Giovanni in the distant past is certainly a little dark but it could be a lot of fun to have the goodbye to this absolute menace of a man being him running away from fossil Pokemon in their own time. Maybe have an Aerodactyl drop him in its nest for its chicks in classic cartoon fashion!
I'll say one that comes to mind. I'd like to see ash tactics when it comes to battle being acknowledged by other participants and utilizing his tactics. In other words, I'd like to see fans of ash of his battles. I know the sprinkler that was used against brock was given a reckon later for being the move Soak in the games. Imagine other trainers hearing that and using such tactics. 😅 fans of Ash will hear such tactics thinking he was a genius it'll be gag that's go on questioning ash intelligence in the anime. Also, it'll be something pallet town well known for by simply listening Ash an accomplishment over the series. Also i desgree about changing ash battle with brock if anything just refining the story well do. Yeah i see this as true fan fanfic. I was hoping this be more of a remaster type of thing. Like i can see gengar from juorny being that hunter. I could also see for each reagion taking one year so when the series end he could be 16-18 as well just connecting everything. Seeing the growth of everyone.
13:23 No, they weren't. Both were interrupted by outside interference. Based on what happens, it's clear that in case of outside interruption, the gym leader is empowered to decide the outcome of the match. Meaning the only sketchy one is Giovanni (and Sabrina but that’s because I’m not sure who took a decision there).
Wrote really long comment praising your rewriting of the Pokemon anime but stupidly I closed the app and lost it. So I'm going to give a very short version of what I was originally going to say: Your rewrite rocks. Seriously, it's like you took the best of the anime, the best of the games and even some elements of the manga and Incorporated it all together in a really awesome story and I think that it's really good. I always liked the games more than the anime, except I really do love Pokemon Origins which in my opinion is the best Pokemon adaptation to anime date. I'm still traumatized by that one scene, I'm sure everybody here knows which one I'm talking about. xD I like the fact that you ended it with the Johto Arc because honestly Ash was just used way too much, I also like the fact that you turned jesse, James and Meowth into heroes an elevated them above the usual goofy comic relief villains that they were. I also like how you turn Ash's father into an end game protagonist. I like your idea of a final confrontation with Richie on Mount silver, but I think that if you were going to make Gary a more prominent rival in the series it would have made more sense for him to be the one on Mount silver. Or maybe for that matter, Ash's father should have been the champion who occupies the same role as Red did in Gen 2. Would love it if you would continue the series, I'd be curious to see how you would create a series based around May since she is no longer a supporting character like in the anime. And it does raise an interesting question, when you do bring May into the story as the main protagonist do you intend to bring her into different regions or does her story begin and end in Hoenn? Is Dawn the next protag if so? At any rate, I love what you did in this video and I really appreciate the amount of imagination you put into this. Can you help me relieve some really good times I had playing the games in the early 2000s and even the early 2010s when I was playing the remakes of Gen 2 which to date are my favorite Pokemon games ever created, next to the original Colosseum of course.
Pretty good idea for reimagining Ash's adventure. It ties up a lot of loose ends in his life and leaves the story on a note that remains open, but is also more conclusive than what we were presented at the end of Pokémon Journeys. That said... I consider deleting Annie and Oakley a crime, even if they *were* one-shot film antagonists.
@@SterlingCalm it was written in his autobiography, if I remember correctly. It was never explained in universe, so I’m not sure it’s canon in the series, but he wrote that he thought it was Ivy’s sexuality that sent him into despair or something like that. But it could be a rumor, I haven’t read his biography
XYZ could have been a great ending to Ash's story. As much i loved Sun & Moon i feel they could have also endend his story with him win at Kalos and after fighting Lysandre return home as a Pokemon Master. Sun & Moon would have then starred a new cast in this alternate reality....
I remember pokemon aired on ITV on Saturdays in the UK. It was a children block called CITV now has its own channel, but I knew it as a block. And SMTV with Ant Dec and Cat they did a sketch before the episode where Ant and Dec dressed up as Misty and Gary and banter to each other like the characters. I was 10 in 1998
I'm not sure if you're into fanfictions at all, but if you are, there are a couple of absolutely fantastic Pokemon fanfics I can recommend. The first is the unfortunately now permanently unfinished 'The Road To Be A Pokemon Master' series of fanfics by FanaticLAGuy, and the 'Follow Your Heart' series written by stringfellow. They're both shipping series, with Serena and Dawn respectively (not THAT kind of shipping fics, if you know what I mean), and both of them are in my opinion easily as good as something you'd find in a book store. Both of them would have made fantastic animes in their own rights, with the first one straight-up re-writing the Pokemon anime from Kanto to partway through Hoenn, but including Serena as Ash's childhood friend-turned-girlfriend. It also includes most of the elements you suggest in this video, or ones like them.
If Ritchie were to have a Lugia I think I'd only accept it if he were raising the abandoned baby Lugia, and it hadn't come into its full strength yet. I feel like legendaries are too special for even the best trainers to catch, and it's a bit of a contentious subject, but I could see it working if his Lugia weren't at its full potential yet because it'd take another ten years minimum to mature
I like this idea of Ash winning, but I don't think we should fully go away from him after Johto. The episode where Ash leaves everything behind to get on a boat to Hoenn with only Pikachu is one of my favorites from the original series, and I like the idea of him starting all over again on a new journey. He doesn't have to be the protagonist, we could pass the baton to a new group of kids in Hoenn (I think May should be the main character personally, that was a great choice in the manga for her to be the one doing the gym challenge rather than Brendan), but Ash should still be the eyes through which we are introduced to this new land imo. It might be a bit of an awkward start for our new group, but the traveling between regions that happens only in the anime and never in the games is always so interesting to me, so we should at least get a taste of that before truly saying goodbye to Ash. Besides, after he becomes a Pokemon Master, there's no way Ash would just stop adventuring, so it feels only natural for us to keep following him, all alone for the first time since Misty joined in episode 2, until we come across our new group.
My only complaint is Jessie, James & Meowth. Black and White showed Team Rocket can be very successful as criminals when they are not going after Pikachu. So I would have them compete missions for Giovanni even if there secondary objectives are spoiled by Leaf, Ash and the rest of the main cast.
Personally I don't think Jesse and James should have married. I always saw them as just friends. But otherwise, this was a great video. I would like to see how you would rewrite more seasons of the Pokemon anime.
"and the friendly rivalry plays into the...shipping aspect as which you are going to see this okAY I'M BIASED ASH AND MISTY SHOULD HAVE ENDED UP TOGETHER" MAD RESPECT! Personal bias incoming: this is one of the main reasons why I dropped pokemon as we headed into beyond Diamond and Peal but picked it back up when Pokemon Journeys started. I saw that they took away all other companions and gave Ash a single one - a boy with a fire-y personality who argued with him with a bit of an old married couple energy, a pseudo rivalry but focused on the friendship and support aspect more, and they were heavy blue and red coded and I just went "Oh. Oh it's Misty. Misty but he's a boy. Oh it's just Ash and Misty but gay now. I'm so fucking onboard sign me tHE FUCK UP" Anyway, loving what we are focusing on the rewrite so far. I'm only 20 minutes in but yeah. So good so gOOD.
Did anyone else experience an evangelical program overtaking the WB slot on their cable when pokemon was supposed to air on saturdays forcing the block to air on Sunday instead? Or was that just Comcast in CT where I grew up?
RIP Rachael Lillis (Jessie’s original English VA), you were truly a star.
She also voiced Misty as well.
and she was gone too soon..
And how dare Flaming freezer mocked her death.
And Misty's.
@@AK-tr6lonever liked Paul. Never played like him either
He develops a lot actually. Like I can't think of any characters that develop more.
Ash is a above average trainer. And Electra buzz aren't that good I like the graydos I like their bat it's their tail.
And then when all hope seems lost for our main heroes, you just hear,
"Prepare for trouble! And make it double!
To protect the world from devastation. To unite all peoples within our nation.
To denounce the evils of truth and love. To extend our reach to the stars above.
Jessie! James!
Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light. Surrender now or prepare to fight!
Meowth that's right!"
And then you see them in their old, iconic Team Rocket uniforms.
"Protect the VIRTUES of truth and love"
My personal opinion, that word switch makes the line easier to say AND makes it sound a little less corny. But that's my opinion.
@@jerfuhrer2581 Agreed
You had me at "Tracey no longer exists" XD
Love the idea of alternative protagonists, especially Jessie, James and Meowth.
"All around positives" he says directly after hahaha
That’s horrible
The original head writer,Takeshi Shudo, who left partway through season 5 wanted the series to eventually go in a darker direction where there would be a Spartacus-like Pokemon rebellion led by Pikachu against the humans and the series ends with Ash dying of old age reminiscing on his journey.
Forreal???
this interview is lost to time, but i am almost certain he said this as a joke and it just got lapped up by journalists and spun into an actual fact. theres no way any sane person would think, even for a second, that that idea would take off.
@@joj5150 Keyword sane. The man was usually under the influence when writing Pokemon.
There’s no actual reset. It’s just the fandom making it excuses for why he loses.
@@TheLastSpider-ManI am bitter. Bitter that people are so insecure about losing.
Pokemon is one long fully connected story, at least ignoring XY. Also, BW fits in cleanly. And no region was ever a reset, that's not true.
If you continue this as a series moving on to Gen 3 and Gen 4, I would LOVE to see a May centric rewrite where she gets to hang out with Dawn! 😅
Someone probably mentioned already, but that is basically how the main pokemon manga, the Pokemon Special, works. After each arc the main protagonist changes (all named after the games, so Red, Yellow, Gold, etc), but the old protagonists still exist and often play a role as older and wiser.
*seeing Anthony in Team Rocket get-up* "Aha! It is I, Grunty Boy-- Wait. Wrong channel."
The fact you can even recall the villain of 2000’s name here is impressive to me. I’m like yeah, the… the guy. He wants the birds.
“We see the legend of Bruno outpaces reality, that shouldn’t be the case.”
In all fairness, that IS game accurate.

At least the change of protag ended up happening with Journey and I’m actually curious to see how the anime will go moving forward.
It wouldn’t work. Pikachu was their mascot. Giving a new protag a pikachu is just making an ash clone.
Besides why the fuck would anyone watch a series if they changed protags every season? If there’s a new protag theres literally no point to keep tuning in.

This has been such a cool exercise and side story! I love this idea and story arcs.
honestly i wish the Ash saga grew up with its audience like naruto did, XY was a promise of that but they course corrected hard after that series
Pokemon was never about growing up physically. It was about a boy chasing his dream. Naruto was literally the story on how Naruto became hokage.
Also you can’t. Because each one year esque journey was 3-4 separate seasons. By season 9 it’s still only 3.5 journeys.
XY didn't feel like Ash grew. XY Ash just felt like a completely different character that was in no way influenced by previous seasons.
It literally did grow up with its audience though. In fact, XY was the only one that didn't and hoped childish edge lord teens would like its disrespectful nature and regression
@@natalimoina there is no way that you could look at BW and SM and think that the anime grew up with it's audience
huge fan of fan rewrites like this! ive always wished the past regions affected Ash and the other characters more throughout the main series. journeys was a step in the right direction, but that's cuz it was the end lol
I think if the earlier arcs had that sort of plot structure that Journeys had, the show would be so much stronger when you revisit it!
I think Pokemon Horizons is the first time in while I’ve been back into the Pokémon Anime since Liko provides a fresh jumping on point.
Well being lame and directionless is relatable to most these days.
It cool to see more rewrite video as someone who's currently working on my own rewrites this video is much needed
also i liked that the bad guy of the 2cd movie had the same motivations that the franchise pushed onto audience. what happens when you let "Gotta Catch 'em All" effect the way you treat the pokemon you share the world with.
a bit of conclusion to the message that started with rescuing the abandoned Charmander
"Jessie, James, and Meowth should not be in every single episode."
Dude, that's not even controversial - or at least it shouldn't be!
@@8ball180 Yeah, I agree with that
I agree. I remember watching the episode where Brock joined and think how completely pointless Team Rocket was in that episode
Wow that was excellent. So almost making it more in the vein of Avatar the last airbender. Really awesome stuff
I wish I had the time in hand to go over all the details I love about this, but this is GREAT stuff.
Of course, given the scope of what you've laid out, that would be a total nightmare to lay out for every character, but that's just me. Some thoughts I had for what could have been done with Ash's pokemon;
- Pidgeotto I think would've been fine if Ash just battled it, maybe had an episode centered around it.
@@natalimoina "There is no filler" there's no war in ba sing se
@@natalimoina BW literally started with Ash forgetting how to catch Pokemon. And any episode that is a self contained story is filler.
BW brought back Dawn for a few episodes?? Charizard too??
@@SterlingCalmWhich make his dumbness every worst
Part of why Ash never ages is because Japanese media directed towards young boys tends to typically always have a character that said young boys are able to relate to and place themselves in the shoes of. Dragon Ball has a similar phenomenon where you start with Kid Goku, then when he grows up Gohan is introduced, and after he grows up Goten and Trunks are introduced, and after they grow up Uub is introduced. They either had to keep Ash young or replace Ash, the latter of which they clearly didn’t want to do for a long time seeing as how popular and iconic Ash was.
I'll never understand that appeal
I am still some what dissapointed that either some but not all of Ash's or other trainers Pokemon haven't fully evolved.
like if I rewrote the series, I would let both Squirtle and Bulbasaur evolve to their final stages during the anime, same goes to the many other pokemon that Ash didn't even evolve.
Random idea to throw in. Agatha is a ghost trainer right? Maybe her and Oak worked together but drifted apart. Him focusing on science and technology while she focused on spirits and the supernatural
That's kinda already canon based on the fact that the intro shows a Nidorino fighting a Gengar
Oak even sends out a Nidorino during the intro I think
That’s such a cool idea
Good job! (Only thing missing was making clear all of Ash's Pokémon fully evolve)
And thank you for the Ash x Misty shipping that's much appreciated.
I want Barry to start with Turtwig and to rip out Ash's arc with having to learn to deal with the once speedy Turtwig suddenly have to play into the slow tank build and let it be an important character development challenge for Barry
Unova, uhhh, Iris and Cilan still of course... uhhhh, I never watched this series. I don't really know what else to add here tbh
Kalos it'd be cool if we do have a sort of rotating main cast out of the 5 from the group in the game, maybe every major city they plan to regroup, take part in important story moments, and then split into 2 parties yet again, maybe pull straws to see who's in which group. Hell maybe Max gets the dangerous Lighthouse jumping scene since he's so desperate to have his own pokemon but immediately almost gets it killed, but we've had a lot of Reckless Battler tropes so far so it'd be cool to have Calem stand out (maybe incorporate that whole story with Alan/Alain/the Mega Charizard dude with Calem, make them brothers since they look so similar I guess idk)
Alola should all be pretty self explanatory
I never even played gen 8 so I could not possibly give less of a shit
and then keep gen 9 the way it is now I guess
Only change id make is Jessie x Delia
My thought exactly.
I love that comic, but my heart would keep Jessie and James
Okay, now I kind want to see Ash hunting Damian to the end of the Earth if become a recurring characters.
rewriting the Three Legendary Beast arc would open an opportunity to clarify that the pokemon bases on Lions Tigers and Leopards are the three legendary CATS, NYOT DOGS
This was so beautiful, what an amazing rewrite
19:53 you had me STRESSING by putting richy last i absolutely adore him 😭😭
More Ash and Misty means more iconic reads from them!!!
Digimon Season 1 got a reboot, so if they decided to reboot Ash's journey some day, there's so much potential in terms of story telling.

@@pn2294can you explain that for me please. I’m missing some context.

That wouldn't be Pokemon I Choose You movie ?
I remember Suede mentioning in his Pokémon analysis a concept of Misty’s Psyduck actually evolving into a Golduck & starts ignoring her because of how she treated him (similar to Ash & Charizard), so maybe that could be another opportunity to push Misty’s arc since she realizes that her actions have consequences
Also, would Team Rocket’s Delibird appear under Butch & Cassidy’s branch?
I can't believe we find out that Ho-oh was just Misty in disguise at the end of this fan rewrite.
Im excited for a potential Black and White rewrite with:
+ Hilbert and/or Hilda as the main heroes
+Cheren and Bianca as their Companions
+Team Plasma having an earlier role
+N as the main rival
I think the Biggest challenge is that gen 5 is not just one story istead is a story with sequel. Which is what team plasma from the original anime suffered with.
Why was this actually so good
For all the criticism the G5 anime got it did a lot right. Like repeatedly reusing established characters instead of just throwing them to the wayside...not to mention the love and attention Team Rocket got.
Kind of wish they'd been doing that since season one
I LOVE this rewrite! the way everyone grows is PERFECT! I would just like to say the new Hoenn protagonist should deffo be May
I had a similar idea a while back.
As a team rocket stan yes to their arc. I used to daydream about them being added as protagonists back when the XY anime came out
absolutely phenomenal story bro
Butch: THE NAME IS NOT BOTCH IT’S BUTCH!
33:07 jokes on you, I listen to your stuff while at work, so I'm listening to it in one sitting
This is fun to listen to
Pretty good video on the anime.

So I'm going to give a very short version of what I was originally going to say:
Your rewrite rocks. I'm still traumatized by that one scene, I'm sure everybody here knows which one I'm talking about. xD
I like the fact that you ended it with the Johto Arc because honestly Ash was just used way too much, I also like the fact that you turned jesse, James and Meowth into heroes an elevated them above the usual goofy comic relief villains that they were.
Fun fact: canonically, Brock left professor Ivy because she’s lesbian. And yes, this was confirmed by Takeshi Shudo
Ain't that a rumor?
@@SterlingCalm it was written in his autobiography, if I remember correctly.
It was never explained in universe, so I’m not sure it’s canon in the series, but he wrote that he thought it was Ivy’s sexuality that sent him into despair or something like that. But it could be a rumor, I haven’t read his biography
Spreading misinformation, I see
Just watching this now, let’s gooooo ❤
Edit: Sabrina was my lesbian sexual awakening 😂
Watched the whole vide and I love every direction you would take if you were to rewrite the Pokemon anime.
XYZ could have been a great ending to Ash's story.
As much i loved Sun & Moon i feel they could have also endend his story with him win at Kalos and after fighting Lysandre return home as a Pokemon Master. Sun & Moon would have then starred a new cast in this alternate reality....
The fact they could've done what they did in alola a generation earlier and have it feel more earned is what keeps me salty about that fight.
Literally
Commenting for the engagement. Wanna see you reach a wider audience.
I was 10 in 1998
Actually CITV shutdown almost exactly a year ago today
@@MandyMan24The channel itself has but I'm pretty sure it's back as a block in the morning like it originally was
I'm not sure if you're into fanfictions at all, but if you are, there are a couple of absolutely fantastic Pokemon fanfics I can recommend.
This was fantastic. Nothing I could really complain about. Closure that so many of us always wanted
Just 1 thing aout Hoenn, I would find it hikarious if Jessie and James had twins, one who joins Aqua and the other Magma.
Adventures is great in that regard!!
My only complaint is Jessie, James & Meowth. Black and White showed Team Rocket can be very successful as criminals when they are not going after Pikachu. So I would have them compete missions for Giovanni even if there secondary objectives are spoiled by Leaf, Ash and the rest of the main cast.
The show has regularly shown they are good at almost anything EXCEPT catching Pikachu
Personally I don't think Jesse and James should have married. I always saw them as just friends. But otherwise, this was a great video. I would like to see how you would rewrite more seasons of the Pokemon anime.
They never married
Ash and Gary need a Harry and Draco nod at the end.
I'm so fucking onboard sign me tHE FUCK UP"
Anyway, loving what we are focusing on the rewrite so far. I'm only 20 minutes in but yeah. So good so gOOD.
SEQUEL SEQUEL SEQUEL
I thought Damian was the one who got oaks charmander.
"The legendary Ho-Oh" (snickers immaturely)
Did anyone else experience an evangelical program overtaking the WB slot on their cable when pokemon was supposed to air on saturdays forcing the block to air on Sunday instead? Or was that just Comcast in CT where I grew up?
Different states did different things
LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOO
Anthony Gramuglia, This is sick!
