How does one do Gospel ministry in a culture that is undergoing a serious moral crisis? In the opening session of the 2014 Basics Conference, Alistair Begg answers this question with a surprising reply: preach through Ecclesiastes! With a message as equally relevant and timely today as it was then, Ecclesiastes demands a fresh look.
I love how he teaches. This is a great book to teach us moral condition.
I listen to Alistair a lot & love him for the way he expounds on Gods word.
May God bless him & keep him for many years to come😄
the Lord has laid on me this book as i see despair in all the worldly things and folly. from the mountains i declare, VANITY!!!!!!
One of my FAV books. It helps me to gain perspective on this life and the things which occur in it.
Thanks Brother Begg for words of meat and wisdom. It’s difficult to find a man of truth today. I need this wisdom to help me through the first year of my precious sons death
Praying for you. God has his arms around you. Love in Christ.
Here is one the pastors I love most, for The Holy Spirit uses him in a very understandable way, at least for a very layman - me. Thank you God in the name of Jesus.
I see clearly now.
My favorite book in the bible...
lorettalynn Davis Could it be more relevant to today's culture? "Vanity of vanities..."
boywonder228 Totally, you got it!
M Werner Vanity today means pride. But back then it was 'vapor', 'smoke', and 'meaningless'. King Solomon wrote this book. He was a great king greater than his father David. No other king compared to Solomon and all his wisdom and cash flow.

And yet his wisdom did not produce such beautiful writings as the psalms. He spoiled his blessings and became for so long a compromiser of the Faith so much so that he built temples to the gods of his many wives and his heart was not a single one.
Mine's too. Amen
Being a boomer…I always loved how Alister would use some of the music of that era to communicate a biblical truth. He built a bridge to many. Reminds me of how Justin the martyr who knew Plato socrates and Aristotle would use that knowledge to build a bridge with the philosophers to share concerning the faith.
Loved it. Thanks Alistair. This is was a great flyby of Ecclesiastes.
Thank you for posting! ☺
:-) God bless you!
Does this guy ever age?
Key mission vs admonition
These are the basics
It starts in Heb 5:12 but the meat of it is in
Heb 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
Heb 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
Heb 6:3 And this will we do, if God permit.
Notice what book you quote...this letter was to the Hebrews. Just as this pastor said, of course there is a different starting point for a Jew who already knows the Torah, the La & the prophets.
So he reads the chapter and then doesnt talk about it? kind of odd but I love his preaching.
Brother Begg, do you read the comments?
One of the most avoided books by many ministers not by him. He takes this on many times frankly. It would not fit prosperity preaching…
