I usually grill hot dogs, but I think this is my new favorite method. We’ve been dealing with nasty windstorms here in Northern Illinois for a few days, and half of my deck has blown onto the front lawn, so grilling is not an option (and I grill in the winter). I made angus franks tonight this exact way with my cast iron pan, toasted the buns in the butter/juice, and wow! Absolutely delicious. I don’t think I’ll ever do dogs any other way again. Thank you for this simple gem. 🌭

For the hot dog bun I just gently open up it up without ripping it apart and add a bit Mayo to spread with a butter knife on the inside, then I let it toast on the pan on low for 3-5 minutes

Once I was lost in minnesota, early januar, 1998. It was a different time then, I remember my uncle coming over in winter to tell us all about how he and my father would go hunting in the summer days of yore. Anyway so I'm in Minnesote in my car, a chevy malibu 94 you know the kind. Sunny day though. Hot dogs
I personally prefer hot links, cooked in cast iron. And a bit more char. Also, what's really yummy is to open up the hot dog buns and toast them in the skillet. This way you get the flavors in more of the bread - all the inside of the buns. Like toasting a hoagie roll. It also gives more crunchy texture. I like to change it up with different toppings like onions, chilli, cheese, peppers both bell and hot like poblano. I've even topped them with fried potatoes and onions. A good video for those of us that enjoy how cast iron cooks simple hot dog quite easily. Food doesn't always have to be super healthy. If that was the case we could all just take vitamins, shut down every restaurant and grocery store and get our sustenance from dispensing machines in pill form. I choose the occasional hot dogs. Food bullies are just annoying.
I’m cooking about 400 hot dogs for an event. I’d like to pre cook them in this fashion and put them in big roasters until served. I’m just wondering what should I put in the roasters so it keeps them hot and so they don’t stick to the roaster pans? Maybe some beef broth?
What do I do if it's frozen hot dog? straight to the pan or should i simmer it in water before i put it in the pan? I made this with unfrozen hot dogs and they were delicious, the slits and pan frying in butter really enhances the flavor!
how are hot dogs unhealthy? i mean if youre getting cheap off brand then yeah maybe, but nothings wrong with some organic grass fed grass finished beef hot dogs or even bison hot dogs
