To me, Nepalese instruments are much more suited to playing a blend of heavy aggressive frightening mystic music..sort of rock but with mystic essence..I think this fusion has the potential to connect to a larger audience even outside Nepal. This can be our USP because every body in the world today can listen to rock music . With an added quotient of Nepalese essence, hopefully a whole new style of music can be created all together. For example in the 90's ,Grunge, a whole new genre was created by the fusion of Punk rock and heavy metal. I find no point in musicians trying to excel in rap, rock, grunge,hip hop,etc. Because we didn't create this genre. Hence no matter how much we excel, we will merely be one more sheep in the herd. No foreigner will come to Nepal to see guitars and drumbs being played because they won't be able to find uniqueness in the music.Secondly, this USP is fitting for Nepalese style of music because it reflects the fearless life styles of the sherpas who have thrived in the treacherous himalayas to the Gurungs and the honey hunters of the steep hills. This life style is unique and exciting to the rest of the world in the same way as the ocean & beach culture is exciting to Nepalese. Kutumba is the only Nepalese band that produces pure Nepalese music. I am very glad I could listen to 'God lives in the Himalayas', esp 1:07-1:30. I once had the opportunity to attend kutumba's concert. Particularly this song was stuck in my mind after that. Hearing them live was 10 times more enjoyable.
