  • It is February month and the Danish Bavaria dealer "Dansk Marine Center" has just send me a email and told me they have mounted my new hatch.
    I drive to my boat to check it out, and everything looks very nice.
    The replacement is due to a burglary in my boat earlier this year.

    You are such a kind man. My heart breaks for you that someone harmed you with the break in of your boat.
    I am interested in doing the same with my companionway. How is it in storms? Any advice?
    God Bless You. Fair winds.

    Thanks Tino. My companionway has doors rather than the lift-out plexiglass, but the doors are now quite 'tired' and need replacement. I have considered replacing them with the system you have, but I don't look forward to having to lift out (or step over) the plexiglass 50+ times per day when at sea. On the other hand, wooden doors, exposed to the weather and seas will naturally begin to warp and age over time (as mine have done). Not an easy decision. I can buy new doors for about €550, and there is a local company that does a lot of maintenance on wooden boats that may be able to build them cheaper for me. Will let you now what I decide. (By the way, I walk on my sliding companionway cover very often --- so I hope the reduced thickness can take your weight. If they have changed recent models to the reduced thickness, that must be the case.)

      Think you should go with the original "western doors" on your boat. If the lifetime of the doors is bad you could sand them down and then seal off the wood with clear epoxy and then around 5-7 coats of lacquer. Then I think they will last the lifetime of the boat. You can also make new doors of teak wood or maybe just make them of plexiglass. For the value of the boat go for the most original look. - regarding the strength of the plexiglass "Sailing lady africa" has made a video where they shoot at plexiglass, the bullet does not go through.

    Sorry to hear about your break-in - a low act
    I had similar misfortune over Xmas - I'd been in Thailand on a work assignment and arrived back home on Xmas-eve
    Got out to my boat on Boxing Day, only to find that some-one had collided with the bow of my boat while it was on its swing mooring and had bent the Stainless Steel Bow Spirit 90 degrees to the centre-line of the boat - as you'd expect, no note or anything like that
    Fortunately it was a removable part and it is now riding around in the trunk of my car until I decide to commit to spending the $$ to have a new on fabricated - it'll cost me around $300-$500 to have a new one fabricated out of 316 Stainless Tubing.

      Ok. Not fun at all to get a damage on the boat. Hope you get it fixed without the big trubble.

    Hi Tino I have the same boat as you. And have for a while been loooking for a console cover. The one that you have on your boat looks like a perfect fit. Where have you bought it?

    • @twiper

      The cover was with the boat when I bought it, but I know it is pruduced by a firm here in Denmark and it is possible to buy a new. I'll find the firm and the product number and get back to you so you can order one for your boat.

    How would you say the quality of Bavaria yachts are? I.e. do all the components of the boat seem to age well?

    • @twiper
      @twiper  5 лет назад

      A Bavaria boat is build cheap and fast but also have a good amount of quality parts mounted. The difference between the good parts and the cheap parts is the lifetime. Many of the outside parts I have changed has been degraded just by the sunlight. A Bavaria as my next boat is on my mind due to the low cost of ownership.
