We Bought the truck, bought the 5 th wheel, bought the equipment and Took it on two trips to test run. Locally to Williams then Palm Springs. Then cancer struck my hubby. He had his surgery, still recovering then the virus hit the country. We are so happy for channels like yours. We can still see the places through you and still do our planning. Have a grand summer. I bought that rack, didn't know it wasn't rated for RV hitches till I assembled it, nice rack, but when I called the manufacturer, they said it could not handle the bounce of the rear of an RV and wouldn't recommend it using it, even with the adjustment knob cranked down tight. I returned it because of the concern I had that I could lose a bike while towing and someone could be injured, there are however, RV rated racks. Keep an eye on those welds.

So if you put a bike cover on your bikes your tail lights will be hidden as well as your license plate. Might ought to give that some thought.

it's good for when you go through a toll booth and you forgot your Ipass (Illinois). Did that once, I don't have a bike cover, but do have 4 bikes on the rear of the MH. Never did get a video till bthe cause he plate was hidden. Of well, they charge far too much anyway!

I've been using a Kuat Bike rack for over 5 years. Its been on several vehicles. We now use it on our Airstream Interstate. We have 2 Electra Town E Go's which weigh around 50 pounds each. The Kuat handles them well. Cheers!

Hey guys, you're in our lane now, bikes! So we had a 27' TT for 5 years and used a Kuat bike rack. We had the NV 2.0 with the 2 bike add on (4 bikes on it). I think you'll be ok with the 2 bikes but I found the weak spot on the rack is the locking pin you release to fold the bike rack up and down. Our pin sheared off 2 times and our rack dragged down the road. Just keep an eye on it. When our's broke for the second time I ended up putting a 1/2" bolt through there to permanently hold it there with the intention of welding the rack in place eventually. We now have a class A toy hauler with a big garage for the bikes though!. We've had 2 bikes (high end MTB) stolen off the back of our trailer. We finally invested in a few Kryptonite New York Legend Chains with New York disk lock. I wouldn't drive with them on there (heavy) but good security at night! Best of luck: @pedaladventures

It says on etrailer that this bike rack both 2 and 4 bike version is not designed for a travel trailer. That stinks because I want a platform rack versus what I have.

Love our Kuat rack. We have ebikes so went with model that handles heavier bikes. Just purchased a 2020 Flagstaff, all 2020 Flagstaff models have a trailer hitch with 2” receiver welded under the bumper (finally). Purchased the Swagman cover From Etrailer $66. Put the bikes on the rack yesterday and installed the cover. Will be so nice for up coming adventures.

I have a Kuat NV and I love the rack overall. Works pretty much like the Sherpa. The bikes ride solid. The front tire ratchet, however, over time it will rub/scuff the paint where they touch the front forks. I just wrap a little Scotch 33 electrical tape around the front forks at those contact points, and no issue. I know Marc's bike has some character rust and scratches, but Trish's bike I am sure is still pristine. ;).

Looks like others have already cautioned you about not seeing taillights--braking/turning/visibility etc. That's why we haven;'t been able to use one on ours (Kuat--LOVE it!!) on the back of our Jeep. BUT you can certainly use it when not traveling! You're going to love the rack and how easy it is to get the bikes (& the rack) on and off! You should also have aswivel up piece to be able to put a bike on to change a tire or do other service!

Trish, we're sure you'll like the hybrid bike! We both have hybrids and have been using them for several years. We are not mountain bikers, but we love the versatility of being able to go on pavement or mild trails. We started traveling with them mounted on the back of our campervan last summer, but, like you, found that things like our bike chains started to rust. We bought the Formosa bike cover and will be testing it out on our first trip starting June 1st. We'll let you know how they work out!

We almost bought a Kuat last year - yes it seems strong and I've seen others put it on the back of there trailers I just didn't like the way its put together - we went with a Yakama Dr.Tray and so far love it, also for your viewer another option for the hitch is the Curt 13703 it worked great for us and fits the "I-beam" in the trailers like it was to be there. As extra safety we put another cable around the bikes to the hitch - think brake away chains =) also a rear view cam is great to check on how things are going back there....

I watched this to see how you mounted your bike rack. I thought a lot before i built my rack mount. I built my rack so that it bolts on with the camper jack and extents up over the jack housing. There is a 2" receiver above the jack and then a bike rack slips into the back side of the receiver. I had to use a 1up usa rack because of distance restrictions from the mount to the front of the camper. This works well, but it is a high lift to get the bikes on the rack.

Have you considered flat pedals instead clipping in for the rusty pedal issue? Flats just take some time to get used to on the trails and flat pedal shoes stick really well. Plus you can ride the bike in just about any shoe for a quick errand.

Hi KYD, I will probably never. Buy an RV to travel by myself. I like to camp, fish, explore, and meet people. When I was a teen Agee, my aunt. And uncle had a winnebago. We use to go camping on the weekend, but once or twice we drove it to Nashville where my mother and my aunt is from. It was so much fun. She has four boys and I grew up with them making me climb the fruit trees cause I was lighter. Now I’m a tomboy and love to camp, fish, and hike. I enjoys watching KYD because I love to travel. I told you before that my 24 year old son and I rented a van and traveled to Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and California to see family. We’re planning another trip next year. Even though I will most likely never get an RV, I do enjoy a lot of the places you go in learning about different camping places moon docking and all that stuff is informative. Trish you the girl, I’ve seen you whip up something so quick that looks delicious. I know how to cook because my mom was a chef, and she made all three of us girls learn even though all I wanted to do is go outside and play with the boys. Anyway, I know how to cook but because I had to cook when I was young, my sisters and I took turns cooking dinner, I don’t like to cook a cook out of necessity. LOL I really enjoy the meals you fix, and we have the same name, my is spelled Tricia, but I usually people can never spell it wright so I usually just spell it Trisha to make it easy on people. You guys make my day thank you so much for traveling and documenting it. I have a question. I know this is long I’m sorry about that. But I really love the summer to remember shirt that was blue and had it on the back. I think it was from2019 maybe. Is there anyway that I can purchase it I really liked it. And I’m a fan of shorts and T-shirts, jeans and T-shirts, anything comfortable.

Just a thought...when we had our 30' Classic with Airstream bike carrier the bike cover would block the campers brake and turn signal lights....I considering an LED turn signal bar that is for pickups to addnto the bumper since the bumper was seen. But instead traded to a 33' without bike rack and decided on a slide with fiberglass cover for the F250. Good luck. We may in time get the lift kit too.

I solved the bike/TT problem by putting a front receiver hitch on my truck. Then I used my standard hitch mounted bike rack and carry the bikes in front of the truck.

Good video as always one thing I wanted to share my wife’s expensive bike was stolen off the back of the trailer well when dealing with insurance company there was fine print regarding the deductible and it was higher than expected how it applied to the bike so RV’r beware

Cables can be cut, so can chains, but a wrapped chain will make it harder to cut and probably draw more attention. Plus you would have double security. Very good video.

    Two things.
One, when I hear the word bike I think Harley, Honda, Indian, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, but those other bikes are ok as well.
Two, I have been in a RV park and thought ( nope not the place for me ). You are correct, if your gut says no then it's a no!
Keep the rubber on the road.
    Safe travels and God bless.

Man, y'all touch on sooo many good points. The bikes in the bed.... Excuse me, over the bed, and now you still have clearance issues. I like that rack with the locks for the cables. Great buy. Can't wait to see y'all underway soon. Y'all Rock.

Hahah me and my hubby have the same conversations. I have to look at him and say "You're trying to sell me something.. I ain't buying it!". Get your basket if you want it!! You can fit stuff in it and access it easily. They work great. I can't wait to see the video when your amazon basket shipment is delivered to the RV. ;)

Use a Kryptonite 12 or 14 mm chain- that cable lock can be cut with a small pair of cable cutters. My Salsa Spearfish was stolen in 15 min with a cable similar to that. I was taking bags into hotel room in SF, CA - when i came back to move bike to room, it was already gone-cable cut. 2 years now and had my bike cover removed multiple times - bikes still there when they see the chain and Kryptonite U-lock

We have a rack for the top of our pop up camper called a ProRac, it's really great for anyone with a rig short enough that the bikes being on the roof won't cause any issues with clearance.

Been using roof mounts on the camper top / topper on my Tundra because I had a roof rack from a previous vehicle and I’ve not loved it. We’re planning to put a rear mount rack maybe this season ourselves.

Got quoted on a custom 2” hitch like yours for $600, got lucky and my buddy built one that looks just like your custom for $100 in materials. Put on our 2018 Bighorn. Also bought a 2 bike cover on Amazon that did not fit our Santa Cruz Heckler and Trek mountain bikes. Found one that fit perfectly from Camping World. It lasted about 2 years! We have a Yakima rack and it’s a tight fit with no looseness. Also I know I have a 5er but you can see the brake/tail lamps just not the plate. Happy Trails!! Been following you guys since you started and used a lot of your tips since we started full timing over 3 years ago!

lesson I recently learned the hard way is to not trust the back bumper on your camper. I put my bike rack on there and with all the bouncing around it ended up breaking the welds on the bumper. Not covered by any warranty and not enough room on my camper to weld. Looking into options.

Trish, Hubs & I bought Trek hybrids & love them...when we did our mega North America tent camping trip (2016) we brought them along & we used them! I rode the Cabot Trail (~700feet of it-those tourist brochures lied! It wasn’t safe to ride along where we were!) and we rode into Lebanon, Ohio (great town) from our site.
Saddle bags Trish! I got some for my hybrid & love them. My bike is definitely heavier, but I can secure groceries & other things for a jaunt, covered also for protection from dirt & rain.
As for trusting your gut, yes! It is a must.
We have our bike rack on our car & when we get a rig they’re going inside it! (Hubs May think otherwise 😁) If you find a cover that comes up from the bottom or effectively seals the bottom let us know, right now we clean them off every evening if there was rain or a lot of dust. The gears & I guess the pedals are the important parts to be covered.

Nice install. I bought a nice hitch-mounted rack, similar to yours. Indiana to Colorado beat the crap out of my nice bikes. Way too much bouncing back there for the long hauls. They will go on a rack over the truck bed. Still much lower clearance than the top of the trailer. I'll be watching :)
