I wish I knew how to tell when someone flops the nuts. At least I could learn to avoid doing it myself! You prove time and again that GTO isn’t the only thing you need to know to play live poker. Next vlog, you’ll have to check off being lucky too. I believe you boated up on 3 rivers this session. Continued success in poker and vlogging.
Only a few people exhibit this tell, but when you find one it is very useful. I did River several strong hands, but I don’t think I needed a full house to win a couple of them.
You have to watch people closely when they have the nuts how they act. Some people will pull their cards closer to them, some will cover their cards with their hands, some will perk up in their chair, some will get wider eyes. Remember that GTO is based upon playing against other people who are also playing GTO, which at 1/3 stakes, you're going to find very few. Exploitative poker, like the bluff with the 10/8, is very profitable at these stakes when people are on tilt.
@@mrhumble2937 True, but don't get so wrapped up on trying to play perfectly, that you miss opportunities to play exploitative. Even GTO can be exploited.
Glad you went back to the old intro. Just seams right. Been real tough going lately. Made a great comeback but not getting any hands. You keep it up really love your vlog
I found it a very useful to pinpoint those who like to limp with AQ/AK/AJ (17:48) and monitor them while in the hand. It is of a great benefit both ways: to save money by not calling/bluffing their (limping) range, and to exploit them heavily when I hit my hand.
@@dougmccuskerpoker I actually got up and went as I thought it was mine, that is why i said😂😂. On another note, I love your vlog, I bought the same book and hope to reach the same or at least part of reasoning you have. How long have you played poker for?
Way to book a win on a stingy day! They didn't want to pay you off, and you returned the favor. Beautiful read, like the other commenters, I'm jealous. Your game continues to improve noticeably. Love to see the green lights in the weekly review!
Thanks! I tell people all the time, there are plenty of tells out there. Just have to look for them. I feel that I am improving, I feel more and more confident everyday.
Thanks, 2 types of bankrolls. 1. Recreational player: you have another source of income and don’t rely on poker for an income. Play with discretionary money and have fun. Pro or semi pro: playing for the cash. I recommend a minimum of 20 max buy ins, but my preference is 40. My 1-3 game I buy in for 500. So 10k is bare minimum, but with 20k, you can have a sizable down swing and still be properly rolled for the game. I am conservatively, but then again, I never had to borrow money for 35+ years. I would move up in stakes once I have a bankroll for the next level. Some people take shots at bigger games, but I don’t think they can play “right” on a short bankroll.
Great video and I was also wondering how big Zeus's droppings are, I have big taking some big, nasty and smelly ones lately and was wondering if I have Zeus beat?
Take a break, do something other than poker. Reset your frustration level. When you feel rested, return and play your best. Run bad perpetuates itself and makes you gun shy. By taking a break you break the run bad.
Nice work Doug on the the nutted hand read. Always enjoy your vlogs and they are very instructional for me. Keep up the good work. Tell your wife it's an alpha thing with Zeus.
Anytime you flop monster and it feels to good to be true, the spidie senses should go off. Board texture is key when you have two pair or set. Odds for improvement are low.
In general, I think if you play aggressive vs slow play, you'll make a lot more money if you play aggressive all the time. You'll lose out on money more often if you slow play, vs just placing a bet (and they call every now and then).
Aggressive poker is a moneymaker. I feel constant aggression makes you predictable. I find the toughest person to play against is someone who can shift gears. I’m not the most aggressive player at the table, but I can be very difficult to adjust to.
@@dougmccuskerpoker I agree you can't be predictable all the time. But playing aggressive could also mean putting in more bluffs, and let them see you get caught with your hand in the cookie jar. That way, you entice them to call you, vs hoping they'll put in a bet and fall into your trap. That said, it's all player dependent, so knowing your opponent is the best advantage (just like seeing a tell). Good luck!
My German shepherd granddog doesn’t know crap about poker and he can’t speak hand criticism, but he’s cute as heck. I take him to play ball twice a week on my days off.
This 1-3 game plays bigger than many 2-5 games. Game selection has a lot to do with it, having 3-5 tables to choose from is far better than having 1 or 2. I do feel that many viewers see me playing 1-3 and assume I have nothing to offer. Some vloggers play bigger and have life changing swings. People are drawn to the drama. I don’t blame them for wanting to watch that, I watch it. People that play bigger usually want to watch people who play bigger than themselves. I will be playing bigger this year, but when I feel ready and comfortable. I getting close 😉
When I flop a nut straight I tend to blink and pause, a sort of "double take" of amazement and astonishment. It wouldn't take a genius to spot a tell like that. I'm sure that the tell Doug picked up was a little subtler.
You inspire me to keep a closer eye on my opponents! Thank you for the Zeus bonus round.
You are welcome 😀
Another great Vlog, Doug! Loved the Zeus footage!!👍😎🍀
Thanks Geoff
Excellent as usual Doug. Your tell reads still amaze me. Love Zeus!
Thanks, spent a lot of time developing my reading skills. Glad it pays off occasionally.
Great Vlog and good boy Zeus! Man’s best friend indeed!
You got that right! He is also man’s best coach 😀

Nothing wrong with taking a break when things don’t go well. Spend time doing something fun, when you feel refreshed, head back to the tables.
Great poker and clearly Zeus loves his Dad! 🤩🤪

Thank you, you live in a beautiful country, visited there a long time ago.

Nice 99 hand Doug!! Beautiful. Hope to see you on a live stream soon. You've been to Hustler Casino before, try it out! I'm too far from Capitol
Hustler stream is above my bankroll, but may plan a trip that way later this year.
Congratulations on your win great video!
Thanks so much! A win is a win.
Running well with pocket 99s. Great vlog!
Yeah, two good rivers indeed. Not sure if I was ahead on the first one, but I’m sure I was good on the second one.
$980. Not bad for a couple of days. That was funny. The Zeus test 😅 See you next time.
Thanks, my wife thought she was going to win.
Another great Vlog. I'm in need of a talisman. I'd like to purchase Zeus card protector. Thks

It helps that you had the dog treats in your pockets 😊

Zeus is a good boy, and loves both of his parents
Yes he does. 🐕
Asking for a count just to get a reaction, that's some next level stuff.
My opponent was very comfortable, I always like another read to confirm my suspicions.

Nothing like having years of experience !😊
Very true, the art of hand reading and tells have been replaced by GTO principles. You need both to play your best IMO
Not 1, not 2, but 3 wins!
I’m on a rush!
That was funny with Zeus
He does have a sense of humor 🐕

Probably not, but the Taco Bell gets you closer.

I wish you could describe what the tell is that you picked up on- I assume it something facial or in his body language.
It’s a combination of several things, hard to describe.
You put beef jerky in your pocket. Cheater. Jk . Good video keep em coming
I didn’t need to cheat 😀, I already told Zeus we could go for a walk if he played his cards right 😉
Anytime you flop monster and it feels to good to be true, the spidie senses should go off. Board texture is key when you have two pair or set. Odds for improvement are low.

Two things I start to wonder now: a)Why haven’t you moved up the stake yet, at least to 2-5. And b)Why this channel still has less than 10K subs?
