If you can work on your guitar, Slick's are the Best Buy on the market. For the price, they arrive better than most. Hands down, better than Squire. They are really a great foundation to build upon. I bought an SL51 about 3 years ago, and just purchased an SL56. Killer guitars! I bought the SL51 as a project to upgrade it. I am retired and now a guitar tech at a local music school/music store, These guitars were really good right out of the box. I ended up adding new pots, and orange caps, and witchcraft output jacks to the electronics. Ultimately leveled the frets (on the SL51), and dressed them. It is one of my favorite guitars. So much personality. I also have a 57 Gibson L2 acoustic, a Gibson Les Paul, 2 American Strats, 2 high end Tak's (a supernatural and a Santa Fe), a Taylor 414CE, a Godin A7, and an old Epiphone arch top. Earl has found a good recipe for a budget guitar with personality, playability, and great sound. It's really a good combo.
I bought that SL59 at an amazing price--Guitarfetish is a wonderful resource.
I need a good workhorse guitar and the slick sl59 seems right up my alley
