Bahubali was pouring Turmeric powder on the elephant, Turmeric is very sacred and used for religious purposes all over India and Hindus across the world.

‘Curry powder’ is a total white invention and we don’t use it in India. We use garam masala (a blend of spices) or combine multiple spices our own self which cooking a dish. He is throwing turmeric powder if I’m not wrong… turmeric has cooling properties too and most probably helped cooling/relaxing the elephant on a hot day.

Curry powder and garam masala is almost same difference is ginger and turmeric. British boast they invested it but the same used many years in tamilnadu. The word itself is a Tamil word. Turmeric is not only for cooling or relaxing it is used as a holy thing in southern part of India. In every year there is also a big festival like Holi where everyone throw turmeric powder, turmeric water at each other

    Nice discussion!
One thing though. It is very common in Indian movies for one actor/actress to play multiple roles. This actually reduces the movie-making cost and also shows the skills of being an actor/actress.

    ❤️ love you guys.
Rajamauli made babhubali just to see if he can make a big epic or not. Because he wants to make 5 or 6 part movie of the indian epic Mahabharat.
Yes indian culture has those palaces and structures and civilization.
Indian civilization is the longest and oldest surviving and continuous civilization.
India was the richest civilization of the world. These last 3 century were an aberration in indian history. Because of colonizers British plundered india to abject poverty.
When British came to india in 1700's. India had 25% of the world gdp. And when they left in 1947 it was just 4% of world Gdp. By that time more than 90% population was under poverty line. From being the richest country to the poorest in just 100-150 years.
India was so rich that around 11th 12th century it had around 35% of world Gdp and was the center of scientistific and astrologic innovation then of course the volley of Muslim invaders started and decline of india started. they started with the destruction of indian education centers.
Taxila( the worlds first university ) 5- 6 BCE
Nalanda university was destroyed around 1250 or something by bhaktiyar kilji i think. It is said that the university library was so big that it burned for months. Students from every corner of the world came to study here.Mughal invaders destroyed every single big university and education center of india.
India was under Mughal rule when British reached its shore.
    Every invaders tried to
Fun fact Colombo reached America because he was also trying to reach india.

I feel that comparing Bahubali and rrr is not fair cause Bahubali had so much time to make you care about the characters. The characters are more fleshed out in Bahubali when compared to rrr. When comes to budget of Indian movies actors take the biggest cut of the budget they rarely rely on vfx most of the stunts they perform are real people.

RRR obviously better. Everything is perfect in RRR. Bahubali the 1st's backstory is the only amazing thing in it. RRR is a standalone film. Bahubali can't be compared with RRR which has 2 film and more duration. Everything RRR shown in one film is impossible for any film in the world. And they ended it perfectly.

Bahubali demonstrates the power of empathy & the importance of it in a leader. Bahubali had empathy for people, whereas Bhallaladeva lacked empathy. He was a Narcissist who only cared about self glorification & power over others. This is the core of every Hero vs Villain story.. Empath vs Narcissist.

  • @yugandharbeesetty905

It’s really a challenging thing to decide which movie is better because they both have their advantages and disadvantages over each other.
    1. The budget of RRR is lot more than the budget of both Bahubali 1&2 COMBINED. So that’s an advantage to RRR
    2. RRR movie has a lot of content that was told in just one movie. So it’s going to be very sharp and focused. So it’s an advantage for RRR again.
    3. On the other hand Bahubali was made in two parts so it has lot of scope for lot more in-depth back stories and the characters being more flushed out etc. so that’s one advantage for Bahubali. But it also means there was also some unnecessary padding to the movie that doesn’t necessarily need for the over all story. So having 2 movies has an advantage and disadvantage.
    4. Also Bahubali is set in Ancient India, so the makers have lot of scope to go crazy with the locations, set pieces, costumes etc etc. even penny spent can be seen on screen so Bahubali looks rich despite being spent significantly lot less money than RRR.
Anyway, I LOVED Bahubali until I watched RRR. I thought RRR was my new favorite and a lot better movie than Bahubali UNTIL I watched Bahubali again and I was like “no way, RRR is better than Bahubali”.
I guess the point is they both are great in their own way and it’s not really a fair comparison between the two.

Shiva - the first Yogi who taught Yoga. He was born Rudra - the screaming howling raging one who found ways to find peace.
During "Samudra Manthan" - churning of ocean - a project undertaken by gods and demons together - many wonderful things came out. But at the same time this deadly poison came out too - which was fuming and threatening the whole world - and Shiva was the one who decided to take it and stop it in his throat by his yogic control. His throat turned blue and he felt burning in his body. That's why his devotees always pour water or milk on his linga (symbol) to soothe him.
Shivling - symbol of Shiva - is cylindrical because of the shape of his yogic energy I am not well aware of. Some people say it's phallus but that's not right. In Sanskrit there is a word called Jyotirling which means symbol of Spiritual Light.

Relationships in Baahubali: Sr. Baahubali's father and the crippled hand guy are brothers. Sr. Baahubali's father and mother are died at his birth, so his Aunt (Queen Mother) raised him. Crippled hand guy is Queen Mother's husband. So Baahubali is not her own son, Bhallaladeva is her own son. Baahubali is much more emotional and has very strong female characters and multiple layers of characters and character arc. RRR is more linear and simple. Bahubali birth father and Bijala Deva (Balala Deva's Father) are brothers. As per tradition, the eldest brother (Bijala Deva) supposed to be King. Bijala Deva was over looked and Bahubali's father is made the King. Bahubali's father is died (before the story started, may be could be a good prequel) and Sivagami (Bijala Deva's wife & Balala's mother) is made Queen for Mahismathi. Bahubali's mother died during the child birth and Sivagami adopts Bahubali and raises along with her son. Bijala Deva hates Bahubali (never accepts as the son) because he might become King by denying his own birth son. All these things are mentioned through direct & indirect references in both the films.

By the way, considering the fact that hundreds of languages are spoken in India, there is no way that movies could be dubbed or subtitled in all of them, The films are created in a way that even those who don't speak the language can appreciate them.

    Let's talk powders:
RRR: The powder used (green) was a concoction extracted from a special kind of thistle that has sedative properties to subdue the tiger (and other wild animals)
Bahubali 1&2: Avanthika uses the same plant directly to sedate bahubali to proceed with her mission.
a)The red powder that was placed under the giant gold statue...
    b) the mound of red powder from which Kattapa draws out Bahubali senior's sword...
    C) powder used by the mother during coronation scene (both times)...
...is called Kunkum/Kunkumam (Vermillion powder). It is very auspicious powder used in Hindu rituals celebrations and also worn on the forehead as a tilak by men and women alike.
The yellow powder thrown on the elephant is turmeric. It's an equally auspicious powder in rituals, medicine, cooking and day to day life of Indians. It has cooling properties and its anti bacterial, anti inflammatory, promotes gut health and also used on open wounds to speed the healing process.
P.s. If your curry powder looks as pale and yellow as that, then PLEASE ask an Indian friend who is a cook to get you the right spices and make a proper curated blend for you OR youtube it. 'Curry powder' is a British invention from their colonial nostalgia that lacks serious amount of spice and flavour (to cater to british palete). Much like their chicken tikka masala (again not a thing in india)

I'm recycling a comment that I left on a video by the 'flaccid pheonix' channel, which was comparing scenes from RRR to scenes in Bahubali. I'm sure you can see why I'm cutting and pasting it here. The rant would never come out the same again, and I think I addressed the esoteric aspects of the Bahubali movies well enough to intrigue the interested. There are references to RRR as well, but knowing that you guys recently watched that movie too, I think they don't seem too irrelevant to leave out. Here you are:
"Bois!! You are missing out on a lot of esotericism in Bahubali. But first up, you wanna talk unique fight sequences? Frikkin Bahubali sr. and Kattappa have an entire exchange about camaraderie and loyalty while fighting a horde of bandits, oh and Bahubali is in a besotted haze smiling to himself thinking about Devasena. SS Rajamouli is the best I've seen, in moving the story forward during an extended fight scene. But actual dialogue? fkn next level!
As for the esotericism, the whole screenplay is rife with it, but I'll give you a few hints. Bahubali sr has a moon tilak/tattoo on his forehead - identifying him as Shiva, or the pure undifferentiated Self and Sentience. Jr on the other hand has a snake tilak/tattoo i.e. the kundalini, identifying him as an initiate setting off on the path of spiritual evolution. The mountain he climbs in the beginning is the spine, which kundalini has to ascend, that is why he encounters so many setbacks at first and has to show unwavering persistence - just like a Yogic initiate.
The events that happen to him in 'The Beginning' mirror the chakras...he climbs first motivated by lust/infatuation, representing the mooladhara charka, or sexual/animal centre. Moves on to take on the mission of the woman he loves, to save a person in distress that he doesn't even know (although she is actually his mother, hence the Divine Feminine which is in crisis in the modern world - think Neo bringing Trinity back to life, although that symbolism uses two lovers to convey its idea). This then grows into Bahubali jr leading an oppressed people, and finally killing the Ego - his uncle Bhallaladeva - both physically, and decapitating the statue of gold (materialism, envy, pride etc.) which falls down and crashes before Shiva - pure undifferentiated consciousness that encompasses all sentience - completing the Yogi's ascension from instinct to total awareness.
Want some more? chart out the sequence of the animals that are a featured part of a scene. The bull Bhallaladeva kills (Taurus), the Scorpion that stings young Bahubali sr, the Goat's head device (Capricorn) that locks in the shield barrier in the war against the tribe, the Lion head (Leo) that Bahubali grabs the tribe's leader with....follow the sequence, do your know your equinoxes and solstices? It's the Astrotheology that sweeps across esoteric ideas, from Vedic astrology to Imanuelle Velikovsky.
I mention Velikovsky because that battle isn't Maheshmati vs 'freaks in black face', it is the most ancient of all myths, older than the global flood...that of the Sun (Leo, the Lion, in the Maheshmati flag and the golden head Bahubali uses as weapon) vs Saturn (Shani, the dark one, the ancient Vedic ruling planet for Scorpio which is the symbol on their flag, although the Vedic Astrology of the last couple of thousand years uses Mars as the ruling planet of Scorpio, so the flag is also red). This is also the battle between Shiva and Shani (Saturn)....ultimately it symbolizes the victory of the higher meditative nature over the primal instinctive being that each species manifests in its own way. In the Archetypal story although Shani loses he is not destroyed - because both the higher self and the primal nature are important to preserve.
I'll let you discover for yourselves why Devasena, apart from being Shakti, is also Venus (it's in 'The Conclusion' and has something to do with the first scene she appears in, when she fights the bandits, and is then confirmed in the scene with the gigantic painting that Bhallaladeva is infatuated by).
So all the song and dance and violence apart, the two Bahubali movies were about the initiate/disciple/apprentice/padawan rising up to emulate an Archetype (that being Shiva the Adiyogi, for a Yogi - hence the son in the father's image), to destroy the Ego (Bhallaladeva), who temporarily obscured undifferentiated Sentience and Self - his father - from him, and was the reason that the initiate came into the world as an infant unaware of who he truly was - i.e. his true nature.
RRR is definitely a more accessible script that you don't have to dive into quite this deeply. Although, it does indeed have esotericism as well, just not as much as Bahubali, which is practically drenched in it. Both movies share that penchant SS Rajamouli has of conveying quite thoughtful things using an approach you would never think could be the medium for something as delicate as the ideas he presents - boombastic, exaggeration!
Both movies use Archetypes. But Bahubali goes so deep into symbolism (the palace floors have parts of Tantric Yantras as patterns ffs!) that those things are just very very private insider easter eggs 'for those with eyes to see'. I don't really know very many people at all that picked up on these details. But that's the power of cultural symbolism, it is part of the ocean your subconscious is already. Esotericism is the invisible alphabet that conveys ideas to you, even when your conscious brain doesn't pick up on them.
Oh and one last thing. Fkn get a life America. RRR does not have gay undertones you 'tards - I call you that in all affection - please start appreciating your male friends and brothers more. We men rely on unspoken communication and connection, but why not also show simple spontaneous affection for each other, and joy in each other's company? Maybe that's why male bonding can come out instead as stupid phrases like 'bros before hoes'!! I'm sorry for coming across as judgmental to your wider culture (not individuals of course), but seriously, reclaim your masculinity and show love for each other. You are NOT toxic, the world would not come to its full holistic and healthy fruition without your masculinity fuckers. Be your brother's keeper."

@@moviechatterpodcast Cheers :) love the podcast ladies and gents, your enthusiasm for movies is infectious, more power to you :).
Basically, the sequences I mentioned in my previous comment are the reason why the story in the Baahubali movies is told in the order it is, shifting between flashbacks and the 'present day' that the movie is set in. When these movies first came out, I was really intrigued by how 'The Conclusion' is both a sequel and a prequel :). Makes for really interesting story telling.
My recommendations for more Indian movies to watch:
Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (the 2015 Hindi movie with Dibaker Banerjee directing. This is a fictional protagonist that has had multiple movies in Bengali and TV Series made about him as well, which is why the year and director are important to add to your search)
Johnny Gaddar 2007 crime thriller in Hindi, from another cool director Sriram Raghavan, who also made the very watchable Andhadhun in 2018
Jil Jung Juk 2016 Tamil movie made by Deeraj Vaidy, excellent dark comedy.
Goes without saying that you'll need to find versions with English subtitles. I suggest you find teasers/trailers with subtitles, and delve deeper into the ones that intrigue you.

Also, don't look to find the next Indian flick that gives you the feeling you got when you first saw RRR, or Baahubali 1&2. SS Rajamouli is a very unique filmmaker and the world at large is only just beginning to understand this. You're gonna have to wait a few years, before his next movie comes out, for that unique brand of cinema watching thrill that he brings to the screen :)
