This is the review I was waiting for, thanks Steve. I wonder if the steep geometry contributed to that front tuck and crash. In my rides on the 900's I have experienced front end tucks, and even crashes, where I believe the steep rake angle was a contributing factor. It does help greatly to max the front preload and min the rear preload. The manual even says to do that. However, that's a band-aid approach. There is so much to love about this package, I'd still buy one! Thanks again --
@@potkins02 riding exactly behind another bike that's throwing the gravel lose, giving you less traction and still turning left, could that also be one more reason behind the crash?
I believe that the vstrom 800DE steering geometry is less steep than the Triumph. Certainly I found the Suzuki significantly more stable off road than the Tiger Ralley.
RE: crash - crash was Steve’s fault - which is not a bad thing. Many of us have had similar crashes. Even if the steeper rake angle was a contributing factor, that just means you ride the bike accordingly - you can’t blame the bike! You knew the rake was the rake when you got on it. Bottom line is Steve was hauling ass on a hard surface with a dusting of thin loose gravel - so super slippery. And then he initiated that obtuse angle corner at a speed greater than his front tire could hold. Nothing mysterious about this. I loved the crash footage and commentary! Made the video authentic and that much more entertaining. Showed Steve was really pushing that Tiger. Also showed how much it could take by still being rideable after the crash. EVERYTHING is a trade-off in a bike’s design. And despite that fact, I still love the Tiger. I foresee a 2nd gen 900 Rally Pro sometime in my future!
Best review on this new Tiger I have seen so far - as I kind of expected... 😉 Am particularly happy to hear about the "harder to stall", as that has been the exact problem I have been encountering on my 800 when going into the dirt every now and then. Thanks! I better start saving up ... And let me add that I got a fright watching your crash, even though I already knew you came away unharmed. Glad you did!
Hello Steve. Congratulations on the video! Last year I went to Atacama with my Tiger 900 Rally Pro 2023 (fantastic bike!), but after 23 days and 9,700km traveling through Chile and Argentina I came back with a carpal tunnel attack in both wrists due to the excessive vibration of the handlebars. ... My question is: Have you ever done a long trip in Rally Pro 2024? Did they really resolve or greatly attenuate vibrations above 75Mph (120KM/h)??? This to me is the main point that needs to be resolved. Regards from BRAZIL!
I own a 2021 rp. The vibrations aren't the problem, of imagine it's the 23 days on the bike, but I can confirm the reduction with the new top triple clamp and rubber mounted bar clamps.
I enjoy watching Adventure riding right up to the point I see someone hitting the deck for no apparent reason. Then I question my longing for an ADV bike. 😂 23:42
2023 are being discounted big time, decisions.....questions did you adjust the front Suspension to max out the rake angle, Im no pro, but I think that has to do with the preload?
Would this bike be a worthwhile upgrade over my Honda Goldwing for occasional off road riding ? I like to take it steady and don’t need to do power slides or anything.
Without a doubt it will be better. But if you like the GW maybe buy a dirt bike to play around on or a Honda trans alp will be much less and easy going
First, I’m glad you’re OK. 👍 Triumph really seems to be on top of their game through the range of bikes. Great ride footage and insight into the bike Steve. Got me jonesing for another bike. Cheers! 🍻

Sorry about the crash. But, great footage throughout. Currently KTM 890 Adventure owner. With some of the quality issues with KTM, starting to research the Triumph. Thanks.
Great review, thanks! Question, is it possible to dial up the front preload and dial down the rear preload and gain a couple degrees of rake for better off-road stability? Keep up the good work!
So you can absolutely do that to improve balance of the bike. Also I opened up the forks and added 34.5 cc's of fork oil per leg. 69cc in total... nice. No really I did, and the front forks had a little bit better "hold up" but ultimately heavy straight rate springs and valving really helps. The stock progressive springs don't respond much to preload in the front. The rear, yeah exactly take all the preload out. Maybe 2mm showing. But proper geometry is the way to go.
Did you do any paved roads? Has the annoying engine vibration (highway speeds) been removed by the new balancing bits? What's with the janky windscreen handle being changed from metal to plastic?
Amazing review and glad you are doing fine after the crash. Most of the vibrations comes after adding aftermarket upper crash bars which l have it on my Tiger 800 2016 XCA, after watching your crash l will skip the it for sure, guess engine guards plus bark busters should be enough. l'm wondering if the compression bump (11.3:1 to 13:1) of the new model is a big enough reason to sit this one out. You know what they say never get the first version of anything and l wonder if that point is valid for this case. Love my 800 XCA but soon l will demo the 2024.
Why did linked brakes take so long, and why does no one use linked brakes on their middleweight line up? Such a small, but really great feature. Great that it can be switched off.
Yeah I even dove in more than other people did before we left. The geometry on the front end is nearly 3 degrees too steep and has been since 2010 with the 800s. We were also running high tire pressures on the anakee wilds, which you don't need to do.
Great review! Does the 2023 Tiger 1200 Rally Pro also have LINKED BRAKING when in the on road settings? Would be nice to have more comparisons made to the 1200 Rally Pro as that is likely the choice that many would be considering, vs just a review and update from what changed on the older 900. Glad you are OK.
Heya Steve awesome video. So I've got a tough choice - '24 900 RP or '23 Husky Norden 901 Expedition. Have you got any thoughts for comparison on/off road and how well rounded one is vs the other? I think the Norden still likely has overall better offroad electronics than the RP. I’ve come from a husky 701 and want more on road comfort for the long hauls but don’t want to lose too much fun factor and capability for the off-road adventure.
Wow, both you and the Tiger bounce well! Glad to see you are ok after that spill. The bike has had some really nice changes made to it (glad they got rid of that horrible TFT display layout) and slimming down the range was a good move. It's certainly the bike I'd opt for if I had the money for a largish ADV bike.
Great take on the bike ! I have a 2020 TRP, been a great bike, considering going to the 2024 🍻🤘🏽Happy your ok, I’ve taken that same fall a number of times 😫❤️
Great review Steve, thanks! My question would be how does it compare to the Husqvarna 901. I understand that it would be heads and shoulders above the Norden in terms of reliability (being a KTM product) but in terms of off-road handling how does it rate? I would say the Tiger 900 would be the same or even a bit better on the road.
Thanks Steve, this explains things pretty well. I have a 2023 GT Pro 1200 and when I ride it on gravel roads it felt, well, different. Just googled after watching your talk about rake angle annnnnnnnnnnnnd welp there it is. I still really like the Triumph stuff, I also have a 765 street triple RS, the workmanship is just whew amazing. My 1090 was so damned annoying with things breaking or leaky tires. I have a serious question though, the only time I dropped my 1090 R was when I forgot to turn off the traction control after a river crossing. Was the traction control on with your wreck?

Good to see you back in action, talking about the rake when my brother had the tiger 800 riding in the sand on the NMBDR it seemed like my Africa twin was a lot more stable I am not sure if that is the reason for it but it sounds logical, Tiger is much nicer fit and finish than the Honda though. Man walking away from that slide in the gravel says a lot for wearing proper gear that looked like it would have been some wicked road rash at least without proper gear.
Yeah the Honda AT has a standard rake angle around 27 depending on year. When the tiger "falls in" that's when you need to be pushing against the bars, balancing with ur feet, and riding well. After that suspension from a tuner can help with "mid stroke" hold up. And then it keeps the weight off the front. Man tell me about it! That alpinestars gear saved my Hyde!
VIBRATION. I test road both Rally Pro 2024 and GT Pro 2024 for 1.5h on the same roads on Tuesday. GT Pro engine is smooth like butter, but Rally Pro does have vibrations. It's not super strong like the previous model in high revs. But they are there. I would say that 2024 Rally Pro vibrates more than GT Pro 2023. This could be for many reasons, for example 2024 Rally Pro isn't even half way to first service, while my tested 2023 GT Pro was couple years old so quite a bit of mileage. After I finished 1.5h ride on Rally Pro 2024, my left foot was tingling. However, Rally Pro had accessory foot pegs which doesn't have rubber mounts. Left hand wasn't tingling, but there was a feel that it was about to start. I think if I road extra 30 minutes, my left hand would have tingled as well. The easiest way to compare is to put it in sixth gear, put cruise control on 65, 70, 75, 80 mph, and touch handlebars with fingers. Not hold it, but just touch. The vibrations on Rally Pro 2024 is very significantly more than GT Pro 2024 Salesman said it's because of different geometry (internet speculated maybe it's because of crash protection. Demo bike had also Tank protection bars), but I know that the same thing was said about 2023 models as well, that Rally Pro vibrates more. LEG ROOM. Also, I feel like Rally Pro has less room leg. Foot-pegs is mounted the same height, but more back. Which means that your knees are more bent. Sitting on GT Pro with high seat position the knees were perfect, no pain or discomfort, but Rally Pro there was. HEAT. Also, I tested bikes at 13C, and there was warmth coming to knees. Not heat, but warmth. The whole area around knees are warm on both sides. Which is annoying, because your all body dressed for 13C, but suddenly your knees are warmed with like 20-30C temperature constantly. I wonder if it gets worse at higher temperatures. And I didn't do any standing in traffic, there was almost no traffic light stops. I guess it's not the same problem as last year model, because the same is happening on both sides. Also... no idea how it's in higher temperatures. Could be it's not a problem.
@@steve_kamrad5216 in conclusion. Placed an order today for 2024 Rally Pro in Ash Grey/ Intense orange. Delivery first week of March. Will pretty soon be able to tell more about all of the vibrations and heat, and leg space
Engine heat is a major problem on my 2018 tiger xrt. I'll only consider upgrading to a 24 model if triumph has found a way to reduce engine heat.🏍️🏍️🏍️

The vibrations on Rally Pro 2024 is very significantly more than GT Pro 2024
Salesman said it's because of different geometry (internet speculated maybe it's because of crash protection.
Wut?
@@steve_kamrad5216 in conclusion. Placed an order today for 2024 Rally Pro in Ash Grey/ Intense orange.
Delivery first week of March. Will pretty soon be able to tell more about all of the vibrations and heat, and leg space
@@PovilasPanavas oh. Nice dude, congratulations
@@steve_kamrad5216 thank you! :)
Engine heat is a major problem on my 2018 tiger xrt. I'll only consider upgrading to a 24 model if triumph has found a way to reduce engine heat.🏍️🏍️🏍️
Cool bike mate! The only thing I don't like is .. simply the one eyed main front lights !! Thing that the 1200 tiger doesn't have!! It has nice simetric set of front lights! The second generation of africa twin came with the same issue, but they heard customers and solved it right away latelly in new models!
In my opinion it is a little thing, but bothers when some cops stop you and make a fine ,
Due broken light !!
😢 one eyed bike ! 😊😅😅😅 sounds funny but no so much when it happends to you!!
