I’ve always wanted to start smithing as a hobby, sadly I can’t though, I just have to experience it through these videos. Reason I can’t is that I live in a condo, and even before when I lived in a house, it was a residential neighborhood and I couldn’t just be banging on metal all day. And even if all that wasn’t an issue, you can’t find a decent anvil to save your life if you don’t live in a rural area, and even if you do live in a rural area, it’s still very hard to find a nice, heavy wrought iron anvil. You can use a railroad tie but those aren’t easy to come by either. Also you can use the teeth from a large bucket from a construction machine, but you’d need to find one at a junkyard and you’d have to have an oxy acetylene torch to cut the tooth off. The point is that it’s not an easy hobby to get into, sadly. I’m sure a lot of other would-be smiths are in the same predicament.

The theme through these videos is how people in developing countries made useful tools with minimum equipment sitting in the dirt in a grubby shop.
Realise that’s how your great grandparents made similar items in the late 19th century and early 20th. Except they had to stand up. We all are not far removed from what you see, for better or worse.
I once found an older hay fork in a barn, commented to my grandfather that it looked worn out. He replied “boy, that old fork has worn out three generations of good men”.

Very good skills. Nowadays tools like this is made with the minimum manual labor. All that they do is place a sheet of metal on a machine press and with one downward press the metal part is cut out and the rest is done by manual labor. No heating involved in the making of the trowel. I must say these guys are talented and deserve big praise for their talent.
The only thing is these guys don't use much safety wear while making this tool.

These trowels are crap. I'm familiar with how forged trowels are made in the USA and these pieces of crap are a joke. The trowels made in modern factories use a custom alloy to provide a combination of strength, toughness, and flexibility. They are hardened and tempered to last a life time. The trowels used by masons in the US are flexible enough to smoothly apply the mortar while still being strong enough the break bricks.
