I'll be real: until listening to Daft Punk's RAM album, I didn't know the bass was even an instrument. Even now, I have a hard time hearing it in music.
Bass guitar. The stealth instrument. Using a typical rock band, the music is usually rather simple, and the bassist is playing harmony to the guitarist which dominates the middle to high frequencies which the conscious part of the brain attunes to. The subconscious part of the brain combines what the bassist is playing with the guitarist playing to form one harmonious note or cord. If the bassist is playing something counter to what the guitarist is playing, then the bassist can usually be distinctively heard. It also depends on the tone of the bass guitar. If the mid range in treble frequencies are reduced, that will make what the basis is playing more difficult to hear. And ultimately, it comes down to the fidelity of the speakers or headphones as the quality and speaker diaphragm size can diminish the tone and volume of what the bassist is playing.
Another legit answer is playing a simple rhythm for the entire song. It's so easy to get bored or feel finger strain from simple movements and you're likely to mess up or fall out of time
That’s because the moment you press record it turns into a performance. You’re subconsciously playing the part in front of all the potential listeners. My best advice is to record your playing all the time, not only will this make you comfortable with recording, but it’ll also make it easier to pinpoint all the small things you should work on some more. I’m not a bassist per se but it works with every type of performance :)
One word: diversification. That's the secret to making money from music without a massive stroke of luck. You won't make much by playing bass alone. Sell your bass playing as a service on freelancer sites, recording samples for people. Start a band and do gigs. Sell your service as a session/gig musician. Stream your working online. Open a RUclips channel. Do lessons in person and/or over Zoom/Skype. I'm sure there are plenty more opportunities than that too. Fill your free time with as many of these as possible while still keeping a level of quality, and your odds of success improve drastically.

Bass is one of the easier instruments to make money on because pretty much any band needs bass no matter the genre and not many people play bass compared to other instruments so bassists are always in demand. I have never auditioned for a band or asked to join a band. I have been in several bands including some paid gigs. It usually goes "Hey, you play bass right? I also play drums and guitar and I never get similar messages for those instruments.
