    The Dragon's Maw is definitely an upgrade from the TN8. Sand Scorcher is still the best flamethrower.

    I'd say that if you're primarily grinding, Dragon's Maw still tends to better. Some of the Wasteland Zombies (Black Tendril and Black Bone) as well as the Ashwoods zombies in Raven Ridge have sizeable Fire Damage Resistance which makes them take significantly take less damage from most Flamethrower weapons. Exception to this rule would be either the Cryothrower which does Frost Damage instead of Fire Damage or Dragon's Maw which has 100% Elemental Resistance penetration.
    Edit:
    Since Wasteland is still the best area for Grinding, you are able to grind more efficiently over there with Dragon's Maw over Sand Scorcher

      Charred Tendrils and Charred Bones gave a 30% Flame resistance which makes a no dmg boost Sand Scorcher deal 11.9 per hit which still higher than maw damage (9.5 per hit)
      Maw is only "better" than Sand scorcher at RR

      @@SrRichter It's actually 35%, not 30%. So it will be dealing 11.05 instead of the normal 17. You're also forgetting a few things: 1. That the 11.05 of SS per hit hits around 4 enemies, while the 9.5 of the Maw hits 5 enemies; and 2: Maw has a faster attack speed at 12(theoretical 20) hits per second vs the SS which has 10(theoretical 15) hits per second.
      So if we calculate:
      SS = 11.05 x 4 = 44.2 Damage per tick
      Maw = 9.5 x 5 = 47.5 Damage per tick
      Extrapolate that further to DPS and you get:
      SS = 44.2 x 10(15) = 442(663) DPS
      Maw = 47.5 x 12(20) = 570(950) DPS
      So yes, in WL Maw tends to be better.
