smart move to use YGO Prog, though me and my friend are doing Ygo-Pro's pack simulator as they can let us store them in our own collection and they also have packs like the tournament one for fun. Still smart way to save on money ,despite the coolness of opening up these proper retros edit: woah good site for this...hmm might have to move
Actually, you guys could try something about not drawing first: Have the player who goes first end their turn and then the player who goes second that draws is the "First Turn" and play normally but without entering the Battle Phase. Then Turn 3 would be considered Turn 2 and play the game normally. You guys should try that! That's what Rhymestyle and Dotodoya did in their Shadowlocke duels.
@@TeamAPS me and my friend are doing a similar challenge but we use YGO Omega for our dueling, and it can mess with the rules, not to mention not have to worry about limits and banned cards. Even for some Errataed cards has two different cards the regular and the errataed food for thought
Paul almost throwing the match twice shows, why he's in Slifer Edit: I think 48 packs is too much. The charm of the progression series is playing with a small cardpool and coming up with interesting strategies. If you're pulling so much per Boosterseries, you might as well almost play constructed. 24 should be fine
There could be a good compromise here. Use these digital openings, purchase the desired cards as singles (from any printing or edition), play in person. The packs are WAY more expensive than the cards and unopened boxes are WAY more expensive than the individual packs. Pretty sure the decks you both went with would be less than $10 buying the singles including shipping. We all love physical pack openings, but the performance you both put on for the duel itself is the real draw. Edit: oh you already addressed that further down in comments. whoops!
I honestly wish the openings are virtual and the duels themselves are physical. Most of the YGO singles are not all that expensive and they get reprinted so it wouldn't be all that expensive
Totally understandable, i saw the prices for these sets and i nearly had a stroke and this makes so much more sense even if i will miss the openings, its mainly all about the spirit of it all
I want to make a suggestion, not sure if people agree. Open packs online but use physical copies to do the duel, if you don’t have the physical copy of a card, just print out a proxy if it isn’t too much of a hassle. The charm is seeing the physical card duel not even so much the card opening just in itself. If you agree please like so they see it.
I do not blame you at all for swapping to digital for this show. I always looked up the product you were opening and you lads were paying some INSANE prices for content. Just glad to have more time with the boys.
While it doesn't ruin the series, not opening the physical cards by nature takes a lot of the charm from the whole thing. Understandable decision, but unfortunately inherently disappointing.
yeah, my first thought was "I hate it" lol. I liked the physical cards cause it seemed like rares and stuff were actually rare and I really liked how it set it apart from every other progression series.
Dude, be reasonable. It was gonna get worst. As they were gonna cross the 2k usd territory. This was th only logical way to do it. Every yugituber takes this route eventually.
I think it's better to use simulators for this. Unless Team APS wants to collect the physical cards (and they can if they desire) this saves money and even gives great ideas to others about how easy it can be to do the same. I love Team APS content and will always check their channel for their newest stuff.
If you want to draw for your first turn you could have whoever wants to go first click go second. Turn 1 player would just end his turn not setting anything, and turn 2 player would be able to draw for turn and would just not enter battle phase like a first turn player. That way you can use the old draw first rules.
Can you go back to 1 box instead of 2 for the opening? Really raises the stakes and puts imagination to the test when theory crafting. Might also create more deck diversity?
Glad to see this series continue! The change to ygo prog is a good decision imo, 48 packs might be a bit too much though - 24 seems like the sweet spot to me, cause you're not guaranteed to open all rares/supers/3x of commons.
I hear you! I think 48 was excessive. Gonna make a community tab post about this tomorrow to gather people's thoughts in one place, so please bring this feedback there as well.
Glad to see I’m not the only one. I think 24 is a good middle ground. The fun part of lower number of packs is seeing what you can scrape together and it can make for a unique strategy
I’d love to get some insight on some of the plays! There were multiple occasions when Paul could summon a monster and chose not to. I’m sure there were reasons and justifications I just can’t see em
Consider putting it to a poll. While, I personally think the game is more exciting to watch not knowing what cards the players have at a given moment, I also wouldn't be surprised if people preferred Master Duel to prevent ruling issues.
Maybe do virtual openings, and then source the cards physically and do a physical duel? Doing it all online loses a bit of the magic imho. Hell even proxies would be good here
Personally, I don’t mind you opening packs online as you said they’re so expensive. Game play I like the face to face duelling as it comes with human error and it’s just generally more fun. If you do happen to have cards to hand that you would pull out of the packs it’s best of both. Loving the series guys, keep it up 😁
1:40 Just having all of the card packs opened right away is so… lame. Maybe if the commons came first, then rare, then super rare etc. could give some suspense and hype, or going pack after pack after pack (which I’d suggest) would be much more engaging - maybe run through the more boring openings and slow down and have the genuine reaction to receiving the cool cards/ultra rares or whatnot. Just thinking back to the Blue-Eyes White-Dragon pull from the first episode of Rare-Hunters gives me goosebumps, don’t ruin the possibility for those situations guys.
Not going to lie the play you took with monster reincarnation over just using fissure was a nice way of trying to gain card advantage or benefit more from a cost and I actually think that play was way more exciting
I understand the reason to make this change but it’s not for me at this point. Love seeing the enthusiasm you guys had opening the packs one by one. Will continue to watch your other content. 😊
Obviously, playing with physical, vintage Yugioh cards is cooler, BUT, I will concede that this format is more sustainable long term, and I was surprised at how well it translated.
He could have also won the second duel earlier by summoning Chiron alongside Doom Dozer, discard a magic card to destroy the face down card, and attack with Chiron for game. I guess they both didn't want to overextend because Karma Cut was an easy card to get from this pack.
would you consider a hybrid approach where you bust the packs online and then buy the physical cards that you'll be adding to the deck so you can still get that irl yugioh feel along with the physical sense of still giving away your best card?
I totally get why it happened and it doesn’t ruin anything but it IS a bummer the physical openings are over. That was a big part of my love of this and Rare Hunters 😅
I totally understand why you went to digital packs. But there are some things that I personally think could help keep the magic of physical packs. For me, opening the packs one at a time and providing a bit of commentary on your pulls is one of my favorite parts of these videos, it helps us think along with you guys when you are working on your deck. It also would help keep up the suspense for rare pulls.
I’ve been watching Rhyme and Seereax do this type of old school draft mode so I don’t mind the transition. While not having the physical openings and face to face duels is a bummer, this is still the best option for continuing the series. It’s more financially reasonable and let’s the series progress faster
i totally understand why yall chose to go this route but it really does make me bummed out! the old school pack openings were my favorite part of the video ngl
I understand this change was probably necessary, but I can't lie the cards being physical was the main charm of this series that helped separate it from all the other progression-like series on youtube. I'll still watch, it'll still be good, but without that maybe you need to think up a new way to set this series apart from others.
On Master Duel just have both players immediately end their turn, that way the player that went first gets a 6th card. Then they proceeded to act like it's turn one and just can't attack. It's not perfect but it does help simulate the OG format.
I like this change, I love seeing master duel with older decks. The game has great presentation and its fun to watch when one turn doesnt take 5 minutes
Probably for the best as these box set are stupidly expensive for what you actually get in terms of re-prints and now buying singles. Part of me liked seeing the real box openings though.. Keep the series going fellas :D
I love this series but I feel like the whole magic of this serie and rare hunters was the physical aspect and not knowing what you guys had in your hand or what was face down but I still love the series and understand why you guys switched yugioh is expensive and spending that much is insane for just one booster box
I do not mind the transition to digital especially since the game will let you not misplay to some degree (Ruling, timing, etc) 😂😂😂 so the sharks in the comments won't be as bad. I just enjoy watching this team play
Yeah he played way too conservative for no reason. I guess he wanted the duel to last longer for content. Like heroes are pretty bad for this type of environment. Goes -2 for a fusion that gets outed by fissure. But I fully understand that they're having fun with theme decks and extending the duel a bit so it doesn't really matter at the end of the day.
While actual pack opening was fun, considering it was costing thousands of dollars, I'm glad you guys found an alternative. Also, now that we're not in DM anymore, actually going to the effort of tracking down the packs doesn't feel as important to me anymore.
Very sad, the opening was my favourite part of these. Totally understand theyre expensive but always had me clicking on the vid as soon as they released
Ok, so this is now the Progression series. Not complaining tbh :D Feels more action packed than watching Cimo stomp Nyhmnim every week. Those legacy pack boxes do indeed have intense costs and Master Duel is fun to watch + no misunderstanding of how cards work in particular situations
Missed this awesome format! I understand why you changed things, it's rough buying old physical packs. I guess we could see this as a generational upgrade. Old school: Rare Hunter series with physical cards. New school: Slifer Slackers with digital cards. Doesn't have the same charm, but hey, we work with what we can, and make the most of it
In order to retrieve the old drawing first rule, whoever you want to go first, have the other player pass their turn and then let the “going first” player draw for turn
What I like about this channel is that you do physical duels rather than on master duel or something. Not a fan of this new format, i feel like if the cost is a concern, you can just simulate the pack opening then play using cheap reprints or just get the singles.
I was always suprised you did this with real packs, and totally get the descion to switch over to a digital format, its a fun series and dont think the switch will change anything for us viewing it
I always root for Paul but the misplays here had me questioning my Yugioh knowledge. Why not Fissure immediately on Thunder Giant? Why not use Cyber Dragon immediately? Why not summon Chiron? I felt Paul knew he had the advantage and was trying to stall for a longer duel and I get it for content but it was itrritating to see clear plays not being used
While i like it whether you open real packs or digital...kind of wish you would open each individual pack. Kind of makes more exciting that way. But glad yall back at this
I think you guys made a smart choice moving to digital packs with how crazy old school sets cost but the thing i disagree with is opening 2 boxes i just felt that was a bit over the top either way i am excited you guys brought this back
One thing you could do to fix the going first issue on Master Duel is have the person who is actually going first choose to go second. So for example, if Alec is going first, he chooses second. Now on Paul's turn, immediately pass turn. Alec now draws for his first turn. From here Alec needs to NOT attack because you treat this as the first turn of the duel. From here, play as normal.
I still enjoyed this very much! Im warching for you guys, not the packs being opened. It's a great cherry on top but the competition is still great. As long as you guys get to keep the 'rarest' card, im good.
Guys, you have knocked it out the park this time! I can't even comprehend how much work you had to go through to transition the series from physical to digital and by the way, I enjoyed the new Slifers Slakers a lot! Even if I prefer seeing the the physical play and the physical opening of packs I like how master duel gave a better gameplay experience for me because i was able to see every card in your hand and set on the field. I didn't know why Paul had a very low win rate in the history of this channel but after this duel I know how he plays and why he make certain decisions and I'm really glad we had the chance to see it!
I'll miss the physical pack openings but it only makes sense if the series is to continue. The boxes would only get more expensive with each episode. So far so good though!
if you want to simulate the old format where first turn draws a card, just have the player who goes first in Master Duel skip their turn and the other draws as the true first turn, they just cannot attack.
This format works fine for me. I agree with another comment I saw that the number of packs opened should probably be halved. But other than that, definitely better than no content because of the cost of product. Hoping this means we'll get these episodes a lot more often too
You should do what Rhymestyle is doing in his GOAT duels where whoever goes first passes over and the player going second technically goes “first” to simulate the T1 draw you just skip the battle phase
I understand not opening up the physical packs I have to say I think doing it on Master Duel is a lot more financially responsible but I still like seeing the themed duels for the series keep up the good work
I actually LOVED this way more than I think I would. I still miss the physical cards though, but I think you can fix a price roof and if the physical set exceeds that, you can go digital, and, when the set is not as expensive, you can do it physically and get the single cards you have pulled digitally (the ones you actually use). Good games! ❤
The simulation of the physical card buying while maintaining accuracy is a good idea. It's like how an omelet is made, by using eggs since an omelet is eggs therefore requiring broken eggs. Not a bad idea at all, if anything it actually encourages healthy creativity. Money taken out of that equation only allows a higher chance of seeing these videos. Don't let the nay-sayers get you down, it's your decision not theirs.
Would love to see a series where they redo duels from the OG series on Duelist Kingdom with remakes of the decks to see who would win the real duels. I don't know much about modern Yu-Gi-Oh! to know what is happening in this series, but I like it
Yeah going simulator was def the smart play. How else where you guys supposed to keep this series going. Anyone saying otherwise was out of pocket tbh. This series is legendary regardless keep it up guys!!!
Slifer Slackers are back and I'm pretty happy! Sorry it's been costing you guys so much to get them old packs to do this but did you see on Facebook where I mentioned you guys in a six-plus box sale for 107$? Either way I think it goes without saying Paul made Weevil smile and laugh a little more shrilly when he did that move to recycle Doomdozer and resummon it despite not having the material he needed! Looking forward to more of these.
If you're using master duel You guys should do the same thing rhymestyle does and skip the first 2 turns so both players get a " first turn draw" glad the series is back loving it so far
You don’t have to add 3 thunder giant in the deck if he didn’t pull 3 thunder giant lol. I’d like for you to keep the deck to cards you guys only pull! Not adding duplicates if it’s not pulled.
Feels like a bit of a akwars transtion to the digital format but im really excited to see more going forward. It makes total sense why you switched . For the sake of your wallets this was the best choice and still feels very unique compared to other progression series
While I do have my gripes with not opening physical packs, mainly that the cards take up less of the screen and are harder for me to decipher, I surprisingly might prefer watching you duel on Master Duel. I thought I would hate it, but it felt really snappy and I liked having a view of your hands. Plus the back and fourth between you two still feels just as good. If I could make a request, I would like if you didn't open quite so many packs. I really liked the more prevalent card scarcity that there was before, but I do agree with increasing it. Would to consider bringing it just a bit closer to what it was before? I also think there is a lot of excitement lost from not rifling through of the cards one by one. Idk how to replicate that digitally, but maybe just take a bit more time inspecting and talking about your pulls? Though idk how you would fit that in the video. Finally, I loved getting more of a look into you building your decks. That's personally a big hit for me. I can definitely roll with this direction for the series. Slightly different, but not necessarily worse. In some ways better.
Thanks for the input, I just read through it all twice! We're definitely sifting through all the feedback and trying to figure out the best way forward. There are some ups and downs with doing the series digitally, so we'll be putting up a community tab post tomorrow to gather more feedback in one place. Please, if you don't mind, bring all of this feedback there as well so we can go through it all alongside everyone else's. We want the series to be as enjoyable as possible and for as many people as possible. 🙏🏾
Guys please just limit it to ONE box opening. The whole point is to ply with what you have and not just have so much volume you’re bound to get the super card of the set it’s much more entertaining to the majority of us when there’s a bit of a skew and we can root for an underdog. Something to consider

The problem with master Duel is that some of the cards having erttas will effect things. Future Fusion anyone?
Nice to see the series back, hopefully with virtue cards yall can make a video and not go broke every time
Yes a better option than buying the boxes for thousands of wonga . Hopefully we get to see the videos more sooner than before
Missed this awesome format!
I understand why you changed things, it's rough buying old physical packs. I guess we could see this as a generational upgrade.
Old school: Rare Hunter series with physical cards.
New school: Slifer Slackers with digital cards.
Doesn't have the same charm, but hey, we work with what we can, and make the most of it
PAUL, dude you could of won so easily so many times lmao. You keep so many cards in your hand. Playing way too safe.
I felt Paul knew he had the advantage and was trying to stall for a longer duel and I get it for content but it was itrritating to see clear plays not being used
The Dokkan OST hit me by surprise but Dokkan OST goes hard so im not complaining.
While i like it whether you open real packs or digital...kind of wish you would open each individual pack. Kind of makes more exciting that way. But glad yall back at this
While sad to lose the physical aspect of opening packs, MD lets continue the series. Plus helps with ruling issues
Thanks for introducing me to that Ygo prog, it's pretty cool. Might do this kinda series with a buddy of mine now.
at least with master duel theres no misinterpreting rules or missed effects. just misplays in all their glory.
I think you guys made a smart choice moving to digital packs with how crazy old school sets cost but the thing i disagree with is opening 2 boxes i just felt that was a bit over the top either way i am excited you guys brought this back
Lets go!! I'm actually liking the new setup. I know how expensive these cards can get so hopefully we can get more duels this way
One thing you could do to fix the going first issue on Master Duel is have the person who is actually going first choose to go second.
So for example, if Alec is going first, he chooses second. Now on Paul's turn, immediately pass turn. Alec now draws for his first turn. From here Alec needs to NOT attack because you treat this as the first turn of the duel. From here, play as normal.
You took his pot?!?....There's pot at Duel Academy?!?
Losing my mind watching Paul hold fissure all game 1 but I love the series lol
Watching Paul sandbag with that hand was a bit infuriating xD
I'll miss the physical pack openings but it only makes sense if the series is to continue. The boxes would only get more expensive with each episode. So far so good though!
if you want to simulate the old format where first turn draws a card, just have the player who goes first in Master Duel skip their turn and the other draws as the true first turn, they just cannot attack.
Since the point is the games and not the openings, then I like this. It also seems like something I could do with some friends, which should be fun.
Chillin out with your friends in the back rooms 🫨💀😬
This format works fine for me. I agree with another comment I saw that the number of packs opened should probably be halved. But other than that, definitely better than no content because of the cost of product. Hoping this means we'll get these episodes a lot more often too
You should do what Rhymestyle is doing in his GOAT duels where whoever goes first passes over and the player going second technically goes “first” to simulate the T1 draw you just skip the battle phase
I love you two personalities. It is always fun to watch how you guys play and interact
I understand not opening up the physical packs I have to say I think doing it on Master Duel is a lot more financially responsible but I still like seeing the themed duels for the series keep up the good work
paul out here playing hte worst demise OTK build of all time and i love it
When the world needed them most, the boys came back to town 🔥🔥🔥
I actually LOVED this way more than I think I would. I still miss the physical cards though, but I think you can fix a price roof and if the physical set exceeds that, you can go digital, and, when the set is not as expensive, you can do it physically and get the single cards you have pulled digitally (the ones you actually use). Good games! ❤
Super happy this is back! Cant wait for future duels in the GX era and beyond!
this is probably way more affordable than buy old booster boxes
This series is legendary regardless keep it up guys!!!
omg Paul could of won so many times, but didn't go for it lol
Nice duel, guys!!
It's cool to see the series returning. Hope you guys are having fun with the digital format too. ✌
Was... Was the intro a Yu-Gi-Oh! GX analog horror? That was dope
If you're using master duel You guys should do the same thing rhymestyle does and skip the first 2 turns so both players get a " first turn draw" glad the series is back loving it so far
I understand why but watching you deck build on the computer kinda took the fun away for me
You don’t have to add 3 thunder giant in the deck if he didn’t pull 3 thunder giant lol.
Why didn't Paul use fissure to destroy thunder giant he would hit for 4000 if he did that combo?
love the touch of wearing GX outfits
I'm liking the Insect Strategy! I hope you stick with that theme and your able to get more insect cards later on.
Guys please just limit it to ONE box opening. The whole point is to ply with what you have and not just have so much volume you’re bound to get the super card of the set it’s much more entertaining to the majority of us when there’s a bit of a skew and we can root for an underdog.
Something to consider
