Sham Chaurasi Gharana should sound like this. Beautiful control of laya, sur and sruthi. Additionally Ustads Salamat Ali Khan and Nazakat Ali Khan sing with beautiful rounded notes that do malkauns justice. Even in the double speed akar taans note quality is not lost and ascension into taar saptak and beyond is not haphazard and is so beautifully controlled. Swars are rendered with the correct amount of nasality and cleanliness. Listening to such a perfect encapsulation of the ambition and innovation upon which Sham Chaurasi gharana was founded leaves a bittersweet taste in my mouth. This is because unfortunately this Sham Chaurasi Gharana is no more. While I understand that Ustad Shafqat Ali Khan has every intention to uphold the grandeur of his fathers tradition, nowadays I only see showboating in his performances. Taan speed is pushed to the maximum with a seeming disregard for clarity of pitch. The beautiful gamaks and andolit of Ga and Dha in malkauns is rarely heard. Additionally, in his performances, I hear failed attempts to sing in Mandra Saptak: beyond mandra Pa, all his notes have the same pitch. I just wish that nowadays Hindustani sangeet not be reduced to vocal range and taan speeds and that a return to the glory seen in this performance be made. These are just my thoughts
I totally agree with you. Shafqat ali khan has embarassed and disappointed the entire Sham Churasi gharana. Even Shafqat's sons dont sing well at all, they are beysuray and showboating all the time. When I listen to Ustad Salamat ali khan I see the Teyari in every aspect of classical singing and to be honest, Salamat ali khan has been inspired by many other artists but I haven't heard any singer with this Class except Salamat Ji.
@@ahmedzafar4406 one simple word: 'Riyaz". The old masters spent hours every day doing riyaz, throughout their lives. if they had sung the way the youngsters do now, they would have been slapped across the face by their own ustads and gurus.
Exactly. Shafqat has ruined that heritage incessantly. He is ridiculous. While he thought that Tansen must sound like him. Sham_Chaurasian authorities must take a notice.
Akbar Ali is a good vocalist for, sham chaurasia in my opinion, however he sings more on the side of Indore gharana ( Ustad Aamir Khan) with some influence of Kishori aml kar
@@anindochoudhury8926 Funny you should say that: I had the honor of sitting in his presence (SAK) and had dinners with him more than a few times in Berkeley. He said his dad used to lock them up for 8 hours for Riyaz, only to let them out for food and bodily functions. went to more than few of his concerts, and he still commanded an audience with his voice in his sunset years despite being feeble from his stroke. He had stories to tell about ZAB, the king of Afghanistan, his times in India, and his visits there.
What a masterly rendering. A classic example why Indians should be ever grateful to the thousand years of Muslim rule without which they couldn't have hear such masterpiece. Even from the seventh sky, god will be confused if he created these masterpieces.
Ustaad Salamat Ali Khan sahab is one of the best musicians in the world. Don't compare legends. They all have excellency on their own field. Listen to everyone instead of promoting only one member. Thank you 🙏
Sarangi speechless.
Malkouns is my favorite.
