Take away a lane of parking, give the trams a dedicated lane and watch them zip past traffic while carrying 60-ish people in the footprint of two cars carrying maybe 3 people. Trams are the solution to congestion, not the cause

This illiterate so called govt trying to remove trams by giving nonsense excuses. Hence they are not gonna maintain this mode of transportation...... But we are always with our lovely Tramway ❤...... Thanks Deep da for making this one ❤
The main target of those assholes are to sell the land of tram depot and want to get crores of money. No matter what this third class government says, don't let to uproot this tramway.
And by watching the cars it seems that they don't know to drive a car. The drivers don't have a common sense that they are making congestion by driving their cars to anywhere and if a tram comes in the way, they blame on trams for conjestion.

Born and bred in Bangalore, I always longed for trams since the time my Bengali friends described how good their service is. Kolkata also has the advantage of having local trains.
At one time, Bangalore used to be a small town catering to a small group of people. Now that the city has expanded, the city needs additional public transport services like trams and local trains. And I have always looked upto Kolkata for the reason that the city provides these services.
Looking at the video, the Government authorities should take care to ensure that road users do not block the way the trams pass, which is the very reason why there is delay in reaching the designated destinations. Additionally, it would help if the coaches are updated like the buses

One tram route which can be converted into world class route:
Esplanade to Shyambazar route can be extended to Kolkata station and all trams can be made AC. The fare can be 10 rupees or more.
Advantages
1) People coming from south Kolkata can deboard the metro at Esplanade and take tram to go further where metro does not go (like college street, Presidency university, etc.)
2) Connectivity from Shyambazar metro to Kolkata station
Sadly the government and police don't know that the people on tram still have to travel on the same road which leads to more congestion.
Why they don't import those old Russian trams that are still good in Kolkata? The new European/Chinese might be too costly and too wide for the streets but it seem there is no willingness in Kolkata to operate trams in future.
Hopefully the route 36, Bidhannagar-Howrah and BBD Bagh-Gallif street comes back
The trams, by principle, is a transport system of systematic manner, and works in a better method for the passengers, but since the rest of traffic is anarchic and beyond control, the blame is permanently placed on trams. If such is the case, then how the trams operate smoothly throughout the whole world. The speed of buses in search of passengers are less than these century old trams, trams do not operate in "kata routes" and does not generate "tolla", government, which has miserably failed to put up a permanent solution for the commuters, must note that they are condemning diesel buses and cars more than 15 yrs. old, and promoting electric buses, but always blaming and discouraging the tramways infrastucture that is and was present as a most suitable alternative always, despite all the pundits trying to convince the public that only electricity is the clean energy for future transport systems.
The main problem here is planning. The road is designated as a one-way thoroughfare, but trams are allowed to travel in the opposite direction. The tram line is situated in the middle of the road without any barriers separating it from the rest of the traffic. As a result, during rush hour, vehicles inevitably occupy the tram space, causing significant issues for trams moving against the traffic flow. The government planners need to address this problem. Implementing a small barrier for the tram line would make sense, or alternatively, making the route two-way. This is just my humble opinion, and I am certainly not an expert.
You're correct sir, roads do have barriers separating the Tracks, but particularly this does and few others doens't have because they are meant for single way traffic.

Yes this is Park Street, Tram travels from Park Circus 7 Point Crossing to Mullick Bazar Crossing.
