It's not hanabi (fireworks), it's ha na bi e (flower cold), a four syllable Japanese word that describes the sudden chill in Japan's weather after the warm April temperatures.
Love Hanabie! Sadly, heard they just canceled their sold-out Paris show due to their drummer Chika suffering a wrist injury. Hopefully, she recovers quickly so they can continue their tour. The drummer in this video is their previous drummer Sae who left for personal reasons in 2023.
@@MrsRealistic Sae was really great, both in terms of skills and personality! But the way the original members (so the other three) approach Hanabie is a bit different than most professional musicians. That band is their everything, so whoever is in the drummer's seat needs to be prepared to make a lot of sacrifices with their personal life in order to match people whose personal life IS the band. As Matsuri explains it, when they began ramping up their activities early last year the friction increased to a point where it was best to just part ways. When they got Chika onboard they made sure that it's clear beyond any doubt what she's getting herself into. She is also an amazing performer, so I really hope the injury situation resolves itself quickly enough, cause Matsuri fucking hates cancelling gigs... 😅
The lyrics are basically about sugar addiction but in a fun kind of way. One of the lyrics nearer the end mentions diabetes. So on the surface it's kinda we love sweets, we are metal but also cute. But underneath there is a bit of a commentary on sugar addiction, weight issues etc. Most of Hanabie's songs do this. Often some kind of ultimately meaningful message, but delivered in a non preachy fun way.
Well, it was definitely a fun way for sure! And you're right... sugar addiction is legit! It's a huge issue and we're getting less and less healthy because of processed food.
There is a lot of social pressure in Japan. It's rare for Japanese people to offer any controversial opinions. If you find a message in Japanese songs 99 percent of the time that is your own opinion not theirs. But i agree with you. Sugar is evil. My father died of diabetes.
@Jordan-Ramses often true about lots of music, except these young women have been very clear about their song meanings. They also talk about hook-up culture, work culture, social pressures, the entire gambit.
I saw Hanabie in Sacramento. They are brutal live. If you like crowd surfing, stage diving, insane mosh pits, and walls of death, this band is for you!
Best band of the 2020s, hands down. Their sound is very unique, bordering on experimental, but is always so groovy and catchy, it's nothing short of a miracle they can pull it off song after song, while going so hard as they usually do.
If you get a chance to visit Tokyo when Hanabie are not on tour, especially pre-tour, you may be able to catch them playing at one of the, “live houses”, in Shinjuku. They wear Harajuku style and they are often shopping in Harajuku, but their playground and friends all hang out in Shinjuku. That’s their turf. Many live houses will have 3-5 bands play per night, and when on break, Hanabie will haunt the underground music scene. 🤘😁 🇯🇵
Hanabie (pronounced HAHN-a-bi-ǝ) This is what you get when Babymetal and Maximum the Hormone have a love child. They actually started in high school, playing MTH covers. In their short existence, they have already published three albums and toured Europe and North America. Clearly one of THE new metal bands to watch. Most of their songs are quite pointed, concerning social issues like dating app abuse, sexual harassment, drugs, human trafficking, cheating etc. “We Love Sweets” is about having an unhealthy relationship to sugar. Classical first time reaction song to Hanabie. High shock value. I discovered them 2 month ago. My first song which I heard from them was "Be the gal". Despite was not completely sold on that specific song, it showed their great talent and I am happy that I dug deeper in their catalog.
The first part when they slowed down and were wearing the strawberry hats ... the part where you said, "they are clearly singing in Japanese here," ... was the one part that was entirely in English, lol!
They are awesome. They excel at genre flips, time changes, transitions and some really badass riffs. Heavily influenced by a band named Maximum the Hormone - Hamabie started out doing MTH covers. MTH has a very similar song structure formula and is a very Influential band in Japan. Their female drummer inspired both Akame (Band-Maid) & Tamu (Nemophila) that feamles could be drummers. Hanabie has some real bangers in their catalog. Any suggestions you get will be awesome. Again, all these petite Japanese women are just showing up almost everyone else. I'm at the point if I see 4-5 Japanese women walking down the street. I'm wondering if they are all shredders.
The most amazing song on sugar addiction (and our sugar-overloaded everyday lives) that I have ever heard. And as sugar is the greatest danger in my personal life, too, I absolutely _enjoy_ the final moment when the piece of cake is crushed. 😁
