I honestly can’t imagine what my life would have been like without without Mike Oldfield’s music being part of it! My intense love for this music remains in my senior years! This video is beautiful. Thank you so much for making it available!!👍😊
4.53 - 9.53 This fragment was used in the popular television program “Клуб путешественников” on the central television of the USSR. By the way, this TV show was included in the Guinness Book of Records. And the TV presenter of this show was Yuri Senkevich, who, at the invitation of the famous Norwegian explorer Thor Heyerdahl, participated in expeditions on the reed boats “Ra”, “Ra-2” and “Tigris”. Many thanks to Mike Oldfield for this wonderful catchy tune that I associate with my childhood. I think that this melody was even more popular in the Soviet Union than in its homeland. :)
@@mmkneppers In 1985, as the oldest TV show on Soviet television. Unfortunately, after being on the air for 43 years, the show was closed in 2003 due to the death of the TV presenter.
One of my most favourite Oldfield albums. Without fail the theme of the Balinese Kechak chanting, Balinese Arpeggios using a Vibraphone, and Fluttering Flute makes the hair on my neck stand up. This album is by far best listening to with a decent pair of headphones. The stereo field and space are genius particularly in Windchimes Part 1 & 2.
Wind Chimes Part one and two is one of the pieces of music, which had a big influence on me. I also didn´t like the track "Islands", but "Flying start", "North Point" and "The time will come" were and are great. It is a very good opportunity to say thank you to Mike Oldfield for this great piece of music.
can't watch the old VHS so this is great. Haven't watched for ages but really enjoyed seeing again today. Quite funny how Mike literally throws every single graphic in right at the end ... always made me chuckle. this album got slated on release but the wind chimes is very intricate and I love it.
1987 was a year of many shifts, in art, culture, Music....personally, for me, it marked the end of innocence and the introduction to a conflict I an still fighting, 30 years later...world vs Spirit, good vs evil, ego vs Soul....These shifts often happen in steps of 7. Just have a look at your own life . You will be surprised.
Have loved this piece for years, want to hear it as I leave the planet. Would like to know the significance of the 'bones'. Some body out there known what I am looking for?
I bought that video in 1992! Cutting edge graphics from 1987! The Wind Chimes sounds pretty dated now too. It's bereft of solid ideas and meanders a bit. I'm a big fan of Mike and I rarely listen to this album or Earth Moving for that matter. I don't like the Bonnie Tyler track at all buy Flying Start and North Point are great. I wonder will this album, Earth Moving and Heavens Open get the deluxe edition treatment? Time will tell!
Same thing.. I don't like Tyler voice. Windchimes is beautiful, knowing that dated thing. North Point is beautiful too and Pictures in the Dark and Shine from more or less that period :)
No there wasn't, sadly. In the book "Mike Oldfield: A life dedicated to music", it was said that Mike had originally planned about 20 light and sound shows to tour the Islands album but when he realised the logistics of the potential tour would bankrupt him, as on the '79 Incantations tour, Mike scrapped the idea.

Amazing instrumental track. With a wonderful soundscape. I can still ‘sing’ along every second of it 37 years later. ❤ love it. Part of my musical DNA

The Windchimes is definitely very intricate and it is a very strong precursor for the Amarok and Tubular Bells II masterpieces.
