Very nice. Unlike most other people who sing this, Ghiaurov doesn’t shout the entire aria, instead using properly restrained dynamics. Shame, however, about the last note, which is sung on an unrecognizable vowel, possibly in order to ensure that it resonates.
@34fgsfgsdtu48w7qtaqt And now that he and Siepi are gone, who will sing these wonderful parts? God must be happy: he can hear two among the greatest bass voices singing every day.
@dicebagdaryl umm I love Kanye West, he is one of the most accessible and creative artists today. I also love Verdi's operas. I consider myself part of the "general" public. Maybe the real problem is that there are too many elitist snobs out there who know what "true" art is supposed to be like. Maybe the "general" public associates opera and classical music with prudish, snobs who look down on said "general" public, thus making it a negative association.
@NoirOrchestre Ghiaurov is considered to be the greatest opera bass ever lived along with Siepi. I personally don't like him. My personal limit. He might not be the darkest voice, but the man was undoubdetly a bass: he sang very naturally and openly. I agree that Fiesco is a role where you might want to hear more vocal heaviness and dark sounds: it is usually associated with basso profondo repertoire.
